ESP is a Christian ministry dedicated to exposing the powers of Satan through the truth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ESP is led by evangelist Ben Alexander, a former spiritualist medium who came face to face with the demons of the Prince of Darkness. Only through the Word of God was Ben able to be rescued from a "fate worse than death". Ben now travels the globe teaching the evils of the spirit world by sharing his first hand experiences with Satanic demons. By exposing Satan's power and at the same time teaching the love of God, Ben has brought thousands into Christ with his message. Are You "Into" the Occult? Spiritism - Feedback

The philosophy known as Spiritualism is based on the simplistic premise that man is a dual being ; consisting of a physical and spiritual component. The physical element (the body) disintegrates at death, but the spiritual (the " soul ", "spirit", personality, consciousness, etc) continues exactly as it was, only in another form of existence: the "Spirit-world" or heaven. The Spiritualists further claim that communication between the disincarnate and the living is possible through a human "medium" or "clairvoyant". Usually there is also a practical emphasis on healing. All Spiritualists are vaguely Christian in that they consider Jesus as some sort of great teacher or divine being, but none are dogmatically or fundamentalistically so. At least as far as metaphysics and cosmology goes, Spiritualism is divided into two main streams, the Anglo-American and the French
Anglo-American Spiritualism
Anglo-American Spiritualism derives in large measure from the writings of Andrew Jackson Davis and Stainton Moses in the last century, and J. Arthur Findlay in this one. In its outlines it can be traced back to at least to the great Swedish scientist, psychic, and visionary Emmanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), who claimed to be able to perceive and communicate with "angels" (disincarnate souls) in "heaven" and "hell". His voluminous writings became the basis for a new Christian sect; the Church of New Jerusalem or Swedenborgian Church, which gives an

The term "Spiritualism" has been used very loosely, covering a wide variety of psychic phenomena, philosophy, and spirit communication. This site is focused on the religion of Spiritualism. Spiritualism is a wonderfully non-dogmatic religion, science, and philosophy. Spiritualism invites you to doubt, question, and "prove it" for yourself. Without making you change your religion and sell everything you own. However, many people are unclear as to what Spiritualism is really about. How can it possibly be a religion, philosophy and a SCIENCE? How can you make a religion out of "psychic readings"? Do Spiritualists believe in God, or is this just some satanic thing?

Spiritualism
General Information Spiritualism, in philosophy, is sometimes used as a synonym for Idealism. A far more common usage, however, refers to a system of religious beliefs centered on the presumption that communication with the dead, or spirits, is possible. Attempts to evoke the spirits of the dead are recorded in ancient Near Eastern and Egyptian sources, and spiritualistic practices have a long history in India, where they are regarded as bhuta worship, or worship of the dead. Spiritualism in its modern sense, though, traces its origins to the activities of Margaret Fox and, to a lesser extent, her two sisters. Beginning in 1848 at their parents' farmhouse near Hydesville, NY, the Fox sisters were able to produce spirit "rappings" in answer to questions put to them. After moving to Rochester, NY, and receiving a wider audience, their fame spread to both sides of the Atlantic. By the mid 1850s they had inspired a host of imitators. Margaret Fox admitted later in life that she had produced rapping noises through manipulation of her joints. BELIEVE

Spiritism
Spiritism is the name properly given to the belief that the living can and do communicate with the spirits of the departed, and to the various practices by which such communication is attempted. It should be carefully distinguished from Spiritualism , the philosophical doctrine which holds, in general, that there is a spiritual order of beings no less real than the material and, in particular, that the soul of man is a spiritual substance. Spiritism, moreover, has taken on a religious character. It claims to prove the preamble of all religions, i.e., the existence of a spiritual world, and to establish a world-wide religion in which the adherents of the various traditional faiths, setting their dogmas aside, can unite. If it has formulated no definite creed, and if its representatives differ in their attitudes toward the beliefs of Christianity , this is simply because Spiritism is expected to supply a new and fuller revelation which will either substantiate on a rational basis the essential Christian dogmas or show that they are utterly unfounded. The knowledge thus acquired will naturally affect conduct, the more so because it is hoped that the discarnate spirits, in making known their condition, will also indicate the means of attaining to salvation or rather of progressing, by a continuous evolution in the other world, to a higher plane of existence and happiness.

Spiritualism
Spiritualism as a religious movement was a varied set of beliefs and practices related to the conviction that the living and the dead could be in meaningful communication. It flourished in the second half of the 19th century and considerably affected both Universalism and Unitarianism at the time. One event that precipitated "Modern Spiritualism," as it was called, was the 1847 publication of The Principles of Nature , composed by Andrew Jackson Davis, a young entranced seer from Poughkeepsie, New York. He claimed the spirit of Emanuel Swedenborg had dictated the book, an airy speculation on the evolution of the cosmos, culture and religion. In 1848 three young sisters, Margaret, Kate and Leah Fox, generated public excitement with their claim to have contacted spirits of the dead through telegraphic rapping in their home near Rochester. From the Fox sisters' experience came the pattern for the séance, or spirit circle. Soon many "mediums," especially sensitive to "impressions" from spirits, guided hopeful participants. The number of spiritualists in America grew rapidly in the decade of the 1850s. Just before the Civil War spiritualists and non-spiritualists alike estimated the number as two to three million (out of a U.S. population of 30 million). Estimates varied wildly since spiritualism was never a systematically organized phenomenon. It was pervasive into the early 1870s and then began to fade, though never dying out completely. Spiritualism attracted people from every religious background. Many Universalists and Unitarians, especially, were drawn by the hope for communion with the spirits of the dead.

Continued: Beyond the Age of Amnesia: Charting the Course of 20 th Century Liberal Quaker Theology By Chuck Fager Indeed, there were among their number quite a few who retained their membership among the Hicksites, and moved freely back and forth between them. Lucretia Mott was one such: she was at the 1853 sessions which produced the Exposition, and returned frequently to their annual sessions, which were more like Chautauquas. But she did not "join" their group and leave the Hicksites behind; she didn’t have to. This easy movement back and forth was a weakness in institutional terms; but it was clearly instrumental in "spreading the virus" of Progressive thinking among the wider circle of Hicksite groups from which the Progressives had officially departed. Moreover, this "virus" was not spread in one direction only, outward from Longwood. From early on, their assemblies also attracted Unitarians, not only to their audiences but also into their leadership: historian Albert Wahl identified Unitarian ministers as leaders in Longwood through most of the rest of the century and into the next one. The course of this spreading influence has yet to be charted in detail; but there is no real doubt that it occurred, because by the time that Friends General Conference was officially called into being, in 1900, Progressive themes were woven indelibly into its fabric. Consider these comments by William Birdsall of Swarthmore College, in his address to the Conference:

Spiritualism is a rational religion based on the proven knowledge that man's spirit survives physical death. This has led to a philosophical and scientific approach new to traditional religious faith. Spiritualist philosophy contains neither dogma nor creed and it is discussed rather than preached. There is an increasing tendency in these times to think and act collectively and Spiritualism is a religion matching this trend. It is a Religion of Reason for all those who see this as an Age of Reason. At some time in their lives all men ask themselves the question "What happens to me when I die?" Spiritualism claims to give the definite answer to this question. It affirms that man's spirit survives physical death and enters a Spirit world which surrounds and interpenetrates our material life. It asserts that the truth of this statement can be demonstrated under the right conditions when communication can and does take place between the worlds of spirit and earthly beings. This communication is only possible through individuals who have what are known as mediumistic abilities and who are known as mediums. Spiritualists stress that the right conditions must prevail for communication to take place and that the prime condition is that there is a spirit person there willing to communicate. It is not generally understood that communication cannot take place
