About seventhday adventists. This same group accepted the teaching of the seventh-day Sabbath, and became known as seventh-day adventists.
http://www.llu.edu/info/SDAhist.html

About Seventh-day Adventists The colorful history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church began as a result of close study of Bible prophecies around the mid-nineteenth century. People of many persuasions came to believe that the second coming, or advent, of Christ was imminent.
When Christ did not come at that time, a group of Adventists in New England, continuing their study of prophecy, concluded that the time period was right but the event anticipated was the beginning of the final judgment in heaven rather than the second coming of Christ, which was still in the future. This same group accepted the teaching of the seventh-day Sabbath, and became known as Seventh-day Adventists. The church organized formally in 1863.
Basing its faith on the Bible, the church today is a closely-knit, worldwide organization with a membership of more than 13.5 million believers. The church sent its first missionary, J. N. Andrews, abroad in 1874, and today conducts evangelistic endeavors in more than 208 nations, in more than 700 languages.
The church operates one of the largest Protestant educational systems in the world, with more than 5,700 schools, including 86 colleges and 15 universities.

Origins
According to historians of the movement, this group gained its more recent name from the teaching that the expected return of Jesus Christ on October 22 had been fulfilled in a way that had not previously been understood (see also: Great Disappointment ). Further Bible study led to the belief that Jesus in that year had entered into the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary, and began an "investigative judgment" of the world: a process through which there is an examination of the heavenly records to "determine who, through repentance of sin and faith in Christ, are entitled to the benefits of His atonement"¹ after which Jesus will return to earth. This completion of the return of Christ may occur very soon, according to the church's teaching. A formally organized church called the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists was established in Battle Creek, Michigan

Adventism
General Information Adventists are members of various Christian groups who believe that the Second Coming of Christ is imminent. Their millennial hopes (Millenarianism) were aroused by the preaching of William Miller (1782 - 1849). On the basis of a detailed examination of the Bible, especially the books of Daniel and Revelation, Miller predicted that Mar. 21, 1844, and later that Oct. 22, 1844, would be the day when Christ would return in glory and the Earth would be cleansed by fire, ushering in the millennium - a 1,000 year reign of righteousness and peace before the Last Judgment. When the time passed without event, many believers drifted away. The faithful remnant of Millerites coalesced into several religious bodies, the most important of which are the Seventh day Adventists and the Advent Christian Church. Leaders of the former group had been influenced by Sabbatarian Baptists; thus, in that denomination, Saturday rather than Sunday is kept as the Sabbath. Seventh day Adventists are noted for their millennialism and Sabbatarianism. BELIEVE

The Cultic Doctrines of Seventh-day Adventists
author Dale Ratzlaff - Book Review by Karen Larrigan A controversy has always surrounded the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church as to their place among the Christian denominations. The SDAs would like to be considered as another Christian denomination, but many of the denominations are not sure if they should be. We have received inquiries from ministerial associations and individuals concerned about the aberrant (or heterodox) teachings of the SDA, that other counter cult ministries have broadcast over the radio, and in their written publications. In my personal experience, controversy, complex, conflict, contradictions, confusion and concern all describe the many problems associated with trying to place the SDA in their proper place. Are their teachings in line with historic Christianity, or are their aberrant teachings more in line with cultic doctrines? Finally, we have a book written by a conservative, fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist who was educated in the SDA system, graduated from the SDA seminary, was a SDA pastor and even taught in a SDA school. The book titled "The Cultic Doctrine Of Seventh-day Adventists" includes some background on the early history of the SDA church. More importantly, it shows simply and clearly that their controversial teachings are in opposition to Biblical teachings.
