Balanone Since the concept of "xeper" is so central to the Temple, do you think you could get permission from Mr. Webb to use a short excerpt from one of his books, as an entry for "xeper"? Legally of course someone could use a very short quote under Fair Use, but it would be better if the entry could include that "published with permission..." clause. The Temple of Set The Temple of Set is one of the most famous, dangerous and secret organizations of those who call themselves Satanists. Founded in 1975 by Michael Aquino in San Francisco, its initial membership came from the Church of Satan (C.o.S) founded by Anton LaVey; the split came as a result of members who felt there was something real and important about the magic they were exploring. There is a great difference between The Temple of Set and the Church of Satan. The C.o.S use the names Satanist and Satan symbolically. They do not believe that a real Satan exists. They use it as a way to draw attention and to mock Christianity. The Temple of Set (called Setians), believe that a real form of Satan exists called " The Prince of Darkness". They call him "Set the TRUE Prince of Darkness". Satan is the name given to the Prince of Darkness in the Bible. Set was/is, the Egyptian god of death and the underworld.

Church will use upper floors of existing building

Deseret News religion editor President Gordon B. Hinckley has made good on a promise to LDS Church members in Manhattan earlier this year, with the announcement that the faith's newest temple will be built in New York City.
The new LDS temple in Manhattan will occupy an existing church facility near Julliard.
LDS Church Formally announced in a press release issued late Wednesday, the new temple will be constructed inside an existing building owned by the church at 125 Columbus Ave., on 65th Street, across the street from the Lincoln Center and the renowned Julliard School. The 20,000-square-foot temple will be housed on the first, fifth and sixth floors of the building.
Trotter's office, along with those of other public affairs staffers and missionaries, are also located on the building's second floor, as is a family history center. The building houses offices for the New York, N.Y., stake on the fourth floor and until recently held two separate chapels.
Trotter said the building's entire third floor will remain as it is, "a fully functioning stake center" with a chapel, classrooms and a gymnasium as is typical in areas where church membership is large.

. . . In his role as tormentor of the wicked, Set appears in various guises in the Duat (Egyptian Underworld). He is the heart-eating dragon SetNakt (Set is Mighty). SetNakt eats the heart (intellect) of the evil individual. He is the figure of Set the Watcher, who observes the progress of the Boat of Re. This role is one of the observer of the Real, a role that he also fills in slaying the demon Apep. Nightly, the Boat of Re is challenged by the non-created serpent Apep. Apep has the power to hypnotize the other inhabitants of the boat. The other gods fall into a trance, the Boat stops, and Set descends to fight the demon. He kills Apep . . . Set is a destroyer of delusional thinking. He destroys that which has failed to Become real. As such he is a tester of the dead - a god of Limits. In short, Set works in the subconscious as a destroyer of delusion.

Seven-Branch Candlestick
One of the three chief furnishings of the Holy of the Tabernacle and the Temple (Exodus 25:31-40; 37:17-24). In reality it was an elaborate lampstand, set on the south side of the Holy Place so as to face the loaves of proposition. It was beaten out of finest gold. A central shaft, together with three pairs of branches curving upward from out of the shaft, all exquisitely ornamented and surmounted with stands, held in a line the seven golden lamps that gave light to the sanctuary. The priests dressed the lamps in the morning and set them on the lampstand in the evening (Exodus 30:7, 8). All night long the seven lamps were kept burning (Exodus 27:20-21; Leviticus 24:3; I Kings 3:3). As for the day, Josephus (Antiq. Jud., III, viii, 3) tells us that three lamps were lighted. Levites of the family of Caath cared for the golden lampstand on the march (Numbers 3:31). It was among the spoils brought by Vespasian and Titus to grace their triumph at Rome, and may be seen sculptured upon the Arch of Titus. WALTER DRUM
