Frequently Asked Questions What follows is a compilation of the webmaster's responses to the most common inquiries we have received over the years. These responses were adapted to fit the format and style of the FAQ. They are not intended to be the "official" statements of the CR+C, but rather the webmaster's effort to provide more in-depth information about the CR+C, its objectives and membership benefits. CR+C webmaster What is the CR+C?
What is it that you teach?

What is the mysticism that you are referring to?

How do you disseminate your teachings?
...
What makes someone a Rosicrucian? Is it because of their association with a particular Order?

What is the CR+C? The Confraternity of the Rose Cross is a Rosicrucian fraternal order and school of mysticism. Our aim is to offer a system of study to people who have felt an urge from within to consciously advance themselves along the path of spiritual evolution. Also, it needs to be understood that we are more than a school of mysticism disseminating teachings. We are an initiatic Order in the Rosicrucian tradition. Those with "traditional" minds can look at us as a Rosicrucian traditional culture living in a contemporary society. Altogether we are a mystical, cultural, and educational organization dedicated to the spiritual advancement of humanity.

28. Rafal T. Prinke - Articles
This article treats of various loosely connected facts which may throw some light on historical rosicrucianism, especially in the context of Poland, though they may as well prove to be just barren speculations.

The Jagged Sword and Polish Rosicrucians
I also believe, and as far as I know nobody has put forward this hypothesis yet, that the very symbol of the Rosy Cross may have originated with the Crusaders in the Holy Land. There was a flower called the Rose of Jericho which the Christian knights in Palestine held in high esteem because of its strange feature, namely its ability to revive after it had been dried, and therefore it was a symbol of resurrection. Curiously enough it is not a rose at all, though it has this name, but belongs to the order called Cruciferae or cruciferous. This latter name is certainly of much later origin but it must have been inspired by some "cross-like" feature common to this order of plants. So it would appear possible that the flower depicted on the pommel of Szczerbiec is the Rose of Jericho, or Cruciferous Rose, or perhaps Rosy Cross, and that it was a symbol adopted by the surviving Templars, who continued the gnostic-hermetic tradition and hoped to 'resurrect' the order in future. It may also be mentioned here that most of the Polish kings are known to have been interested in one or another of the hermetic sciences. For example, Ladislaus the Varnian (ruled 1434-1444) practiced crystalomancy and his manuscript handbook of it is preserved in the Bodleian Library. The last king of the Jagiellonian dynasty, Sigmund August, was especially noted for his interest in alchemy and magic. He had the second greatest library in Renaissance Europe, a major part of which was connected with the hermetica. In his last will he ordered that some big trunks with books and manuscripts should be burnt after his death, which was done.

ROSICRUCIANISM
ROSICRUCIANISM. What is known as the Society of Rosicrucians (Rosenkreuzer) was really a number of isolated individuals who early in the I7th century held certain views in common (which apparently was their only bond of union); for of a society holding meetings, and having officers, there is no trace. So far as the numerous works are concerned it is evident that the writers who posed as Rosicrucians were moral and religious reformers, and utilized the technicalities of chemistry (alchemy), and the sciences generally, as media through which to make known their opinions, there being a flavour of mysticism or occultism promotive of inquiry and suggestive of hidden meanings discernible or discoverable only by adepts. The curious legend, in which the fabulous origin of the so-called society was enshrined (that a certain Christian Rosenkreuz had discovered the secret wisdom of the East on a pilgrimage in the 15th century), was so improbable, though ingenious, that the genesis of the Rosicrucians was generally overlooked or ignored, but the worthy objects of the fratres were soon discovered and supported by several able men; the result being a mass of literature on the subject, which absorbs some 80 pages of Gardners Catalogue Raisonn of Works on the Occult Sciences (London, 1903). The influence that Rosicrucianism had in the modernizing of ancient Freemasonry early in the 18th century must have been slight, if any, though it is likely that as the century advanced, and additional ceremonies were grafted on to the first three degrees, Rosicrucian tedets were occasionally introduced into the later rituals. So far, however, as the real foundation ceremonies of Craft Masonry are concerned, whether before or after the premier Grand Lodge was formed, it is most unlikely that such a society as the Freemasons woud adopt anything of a really distinctive character from any other organization.

Several modern societies have been formed for the study of Rosicrucianism and allied subjects, but in no sense are they directly derived from the "Brethren of the Rosy Cross" of the 17th century, though they are keen followers thereof. According to the legend, the Rosicrucian order was founded in by a German named Christian Rosenkreuz ), who studied in the Holy Land under various occult masters. During his lifetime, the order was alleged to be small, consisting of no more than eight members. When Rosencreuz died in , the order died out, only to be "reborn" in the early 17th century. This legend is accepted to varying degrees by modern Rosicrucians, with some accepting it as literal truth, others seeing it as a parable, and yet others believing Rosenkreuz to be a pseudonym for some more famous historical figure ( Francis Bacon is often suggested.)

Rosicruciana in Canada Revised December 8, 2000 Instituted June 29, 1997 Masonic Rosicrucianism In Canada M.W. Frater Dr. Claude Brodeur, IX o , Ontario College, SRIC Preamble This paper was read May 7, 1995, at a meeting of the John Ross Robertson Chapter of the Philalethes Society , the Etobicoke Masonic Hall, Ontario, with the title "Masonic Rosicrucianism in Ontario." It well could have been titled, as it is here, "Masonic Rosicrucianism in Canada," since the Ontario College was really about the founding of Masonic Rosicrucianism in Canada. Introduction In this paper on Masonic Rosicrucianism in Ontario, I address four questions. Two are historical and two are speculative. The historical questions are: How did Masonic Rosicrucianism come to Ontario? Who were some of the people involved ? The speculative questions are: What is peculiarly

Masonry presented an alternative to authoritarian religion based on ritual, the application of philanthropy, and modern scientific thought. Bacon and his initiates used emblems, symbols, unique words and poetry to inspire an enlightened approach to religion based on ancient teachings. ROSICRUCIANISM AND
    THE ROSICRUCIAN CONTROVERSY
Rosicrucianism is a concept that defies sharp or clear definition. Its origins may be similar to that of Freemasonry and the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, but like these venerable institutions, its true origins are lost in the thick mists of occult history. All that we can say for certain is that certain intriguing "Rosicrucian documents" begin appearing in the early 1600s, but claiming to describe earlier events. The Fama Fraternitatis Rosae Crucis appeared in 1614. The Confession appeared in the following year." The Chymical Wedding " - known also as " The Hermetick Romance " appear in 1616, and is generally considered the work of a young pastor named Johann Valentin Andreae(1586-1654). Like other Rosicrucian works, controversy surrounds even this claim. By 1622, as recorded in THE MORNING OF THE MAGICIANS , and in numerous other places, ". . . the inhabitants of Paris woke to find the walls of their city covered with posters bearing the following message :`We, deputies of the principal College of the Brethren of the Rose Cross (Rosicrucians) are amongst you in this town, visibly and invisibly, through the grace of the Most High to whom the hearts of all just men are turned, in order to save our fellow-men from the error of death'." The substance of the Rosicrucian claim, or mythos is that there is
