About 300 commissioners as well as young adult representatives and three student representatives from the three theological colleges will gather for a week of deliberation, discussion and worship. Opening worship will begin at 7:30 in the gym of Gordon Willey Athletic Complex at Durham College, 2000 Simcoe Street, Oshawa. Rev. Dr. P.A. Sandy McDonald, moderator of the 129th General Assembly, will deliver the message. Rick Fee , will be formally nominated to serve as moderator. The moderator presides over the Assembly for the entire week and will serve for a one year term, representing the denomination at numerous national and international events. Monday is devoted to briefing groups, an opportunity for all commissioners to attend some of the 11 different gatherings of national church departments, committees and agencies. These will be held at three different time slots from 9:45 am until 5:30 pm. Briefing groups provide commissioners with a closer look at the various reports which make up the week's agenda and gives them an opportunity to ask pertinent questions of staff or committee members. The day concludes with a formal dinner.

Presbyterians trace their history to the 16th century and the Protestant Reformation. Our heritage, and much of what we believe, began with the French lawyer John Calvin (1509-1564), whose writings crystallized much of the Reformed thinking that came before him. (sent via e-mail 9:24 p.m.est 2/19/04)
I remember the times in school we were asked to share something we learned on vacation. Once I learned the system, and knew that it would be expected, I would begin to look for that one special experience to share with the class. The result was often that I went to class with a rock from some famous riverbank or a tourist figurine. That same feeling has met me again this week as I have thought about what I should write for these updates. I have heard a number of amazing stories. I have made a number of specific observations about the theology of the rural people and have gathered more data than I thought possible in a week. I have also walked six hours a day, every day, up and down mountains, and don’t have any pain in my legs. This afternoon as I was sitting at the table eating lunch it hit me. The two guys who have been accompaning me this week had said to the woman we were visiting they we were hungry. After the interview, she got up and made lunch for the three of us, just as others had done for the previous three days. I had thought that lunch was set up beforehand, to make me comfortable. As it turns out, it is just the way things are done. If you have a hungry person in you home, you feed them whether you know them or not. With rice and beans and tortillas they showed us that we are a part of their family.
