Information on Paganism
Pagans may be trained in particular traditions or they may follow their own inspiration. Paganism is not dogmatic. Pagans pursue their own vision of the Divine as a direct and personal experience. The Pagan Federation recognizes the rich diversity of traditions that form the body of modern Paganism. In a brief introductory booklet, it is not possible to describe each and every one. Rather than attempt this, the pages in this section - links are on the left hand side of this page, underneath the ivy - contain an introduction to six examples of major Pagan traditions. This is not an exhaustive list, but these six traditions provide a good overview of modern Pagan practice. Some authors see the emergence of Paganism in the twentieth century as a revival of an older Pagan religion and describe all the above traditions as Neo-Pagan. This term is also used to describe all those who are recognisably Pagan, but who do not adhere to any of the above traditions per se.

Satanic Quote Christianity Trasher This is one of the Watchtower's Star Witnesses! Trashes whole of Core Christianity. Weigall, is a modernist and doesn't believe the Bible is God's word. He trashes 99% of what both JW's and Trinitarians believe as from Pagan origin. JW's leave the impression that Weigall would exempt JW's from his comments! In fact, Weigall specifically addresses the Watchtower/Arian/Jw view of God known as Angel-Christology, stating that "angel-Christology" is from Pagan origin! The premise of the entire book is that if something was taught before it was written in the Bible, it is of pagan origin. Problem is, Weigall claims to have found 27 major Bible doctrines to exist in Pagan religions before it was first recorded in the Bible. Such a conclusion is simply invalid and for this reason, it is utter deception for the Jehovah's Witnesses to use Weigall as proof that trinity is pagan, because the same identical logic would prove the virgin birth as pagan. Weigall, Arthur: The Paganism in Our Christianity How the quote appears in "Should you believe in the Trinity", Watchtower, JW's booklet:

... View My Guestbook Welcome to my Online Book of Shadows! This has been a project of mine for the last few months. I have been collecting information from various sources on Wicca. The only thing that kept me from immediately posting it was my *ahem* lack of time. But now with Microsoft FrontPage I am able to post everything with very little problems. Here is my favorite poem by Emily Dickinson... It basicly sums up my beliefs, somewhat... Some keep the Sabbath going to Church
I keep it, staying at Home
With a Bobolink for a Chorister
And an Orchard, for a Dome Some keep the Sabbath in Surplice
I just wear my Wings
And instead of tolling the Bell, for Church,
Our little Sextonsings. God preaches, a noted Clergyman
And the sermon is never long, So instead of getting to Heaven at last I'm going, all along. , Emily Dickinson Well, have fun navigating my site. I hope you find it useful.

CHAPTER V - PAGANISM.
1. Druids: their Functions and Powers
Druidism
All the early colonists had their druids, who are mentioned as holding high rank among kings and chiefs. There were druids also in Gaul and Britain; but the Gaels of Ireland and Scotland were separated and isolated for many centuries from the Celtic races of Gaul; and thus their religious system, like their language, naturally diverged, so that the druidism of Ireland, as pictured forth in the native record differed in many respects from that of Gaul. In pagan times the druids were the exclusive possessors of whatever learning was then known. They combined in themselves all the learned professions: they were not only druids, but judges prophets, historians, poets, and even physicians, There were druids in every part of Ireland, but, as we might expect, Tara, the residence of the over-kings of Ireland, was, as we are told in the Life of St. Patrick, "the chief seat of the idolatry and druidism of Erin." The druids had the reputation of being great magicians; and in this character they figure more frequently and conspicuously than in any other. In some of the old historical romances we find the issues of battles sometimes determined not so much by the valour of the combatants as by the magical powers of the druids attached to the armies. Perhaps the most dreaded of all the necromantic powers attributed to them was that of producing madness. In the pagan ages, and down far into Christian times, madness was believed to be often brought on by malignant magical agency, usually the work of some druid. For this purpose the druid prepared a "madman's wisp," that is, a little wisp of straw or grass, into which he pronounced some horrible incantations, and, watching his opportunity, flung it into the face of his victim, who at once became insane or idiotic.

149. From Jesus To Christ: Why Did Christianity Succeed?: The Collision With Paganism
We tend to think of Christianity over against paganism in the Roman empirebut we have to be a little bit cautious about what we mean by paganism.

Wayne A. Meeks:

Woolsey Professor of Biblical Studies Yale University How would this rather unusual claim [of a resurrected Messiah] or message have fallen on the average pagan ear? That's the most difficult question of all. This is obviously an interpretation which begins within a Jewish framework, which is based upon Jewish scriptures ... which are understood within Jewish institutions and Jewish traditions. Now, the really difficult thing is, to explain that great jump that takes place when Christianity moves out of the villages of Palestine into the urban centers of the Eastern Roman provinces, and very quickly crosses the boundary between the local Jewish community, which doesn't respond terribly well to this message, to those outside, the ordinary members of these multi-cultural Greco-Roman cities, who don't have any concept of Messiah, couldn't be less interested in a King of the Jews, who find the notion of resurrection from the dead a very odd concept, at best. How did they make that transition, how did they transform their message to make sense of it to those people? One of the characteristics of the Roman Empire [in] this period from the end of the Republic, right on down to the decline of the Roman Empire, is that there is suddenly great freedom of movement, more so than any period before that and in some ways, more free that any period that will happen again, until the invention of the steamship. This means that in every city in those Eastern Roman provinces there will be a variety of people who have immigrated there from other places, so that you will have many ethnic groups who have had to adapt to a larger culture and they do this in two ways. One by assimilating to a pattern, which has been imposed upon this by things Greek and things Roman - the powers of culture and the powers of politics. And the other way is by trying to maintain their identity by importing things from their homelands, and those things which they import, which establish identity, are more often than not, a religio[n]...

Well, I guess I should indulge in the requisite personal history. After all, I'm leaving this page to history to say I was here!
What to say about myself?
I am a 27-year-old Libra, born October 15, 1975. I am currently living in Columbus, OH, with my sweeties Matt and Viv. Yay for the beginnings of community! I just recently graduated from the Creative Writing Workshop at the University of New Orleans with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction. I have an AA in Music from Westark College and a BFA in Creative Writing from Arkansas Tech University . I'm currently unemployed but looking, so if any of you out there know of any good editing jobs in Columbus, please email me ! In my spare time (which I used to complain that I didn't have enough of...and now I have too much of!), I like to read (sci-fi/fantasy mostly-I'm a HUGE Robert Heinlein and Anne McCaffrey fan!), listen to music (almost anything except country, but especially new age, classical, and rock), write poetry and nonfiction (mostly memoirish pieces), compose music, and/or surf around the Net.
What else?

157. Paganism
paganism. paganism is a broad, eclectic modern religious movement that encompassesshamanistic, ecstatic, polytheistic, and magical religions.
http://www.paganpride.org/resources/pen-paganism.html
Paganism
Paganism is a broad, eclectic modern religious movement that encompasses shamanistic, ecstatic, polytheistic, and magical religions. Most of the religions termed Pagan are characterized by nature-centered spirituality, honoring of pre-Christian deities, dynamic, personal belief systems, lack of institutionalization, a quest to develop the self, and acceptance and encouragement of diversity. Paganism is sometimes referred to as Neo-Paganism to emphasize its connections to as well as difference from pre-Christian religions. Paganism is a worldwide phenomenon and includes revived and updated ancient European practices and religions, feminist Goddess-worship, and religions inspired by science-fiction writings. For their inspiration, Pagans look to non-Abrahamic, ecstatic, and mystery religions of Europe as well as indigenous and magic-using traditions from around the world. Modern Paganism is interwoven with artistic, visionary, and libertarian traditions and emphasizes the free will of the individual. Many traditions celebrate rituals to mark transitions in the natural world (such as solstices, lunar phases, or a birth) as well as in a person's life (such as marriage or moving to a new home). While the largest segment of the Pagan population is white and middle class, Paganism cuts across all lines, whether racial, occupational, or class- or gender-based. Most Pagans, however, are avid readers with interests in ecology, creativity, and personal growth. Many come from the scientific, computer, and technical fields. Since it is not an organized movement, it is very difficult to determine the number of its practitioners, but it is estimated that there are perhaps 100,000 in the U.S. alone. Some have termed Paganism the fastest growing religion in the West.
