122. What Is Paganism?
What is paganism? Written babies. This kind of thinking couldn t be fartheraway from the truth of who Pagans are and what paganism really is!
http://www.freeyellow.com/members6/elevated/page25.html
What is Paganism? Written by Marawolf of The Covenstead Sadly, when people first hear the words Pagan or Paganism they tend to think, "devil worshipper", or they picture some wild, orgiastic, way-out individual with no regard for what is sacred or for "God"; a cult member who sacrifices babies. This kind of thinking couldn't be farther away from the truth of who Pagans are and what Paganism really is! So what exactly is Paganism, you ask?
It's simply an umbrella term covering many different religions and belief systems.
Paganism is a spiritual way of life and its origins are rooted in the ancient nature religions of the world.
Paganism has absolutely nothing to do with Satan, demons, or devils.
Paganism, sometimes referred to as The Old Religion, pre-dates Christianity.
Pagans do not believe in the entity Satan, a Christian concept. Many standard dictionaries define the word "pagan" as being a person who is not a Christian, Jew, or Muslim. This is far too broad a definition and many peoples who fall outside of these mainstream religions may not consider themselves to be Pagan, moreover, this definition conveys practically nothing about Paganism itself.
The word "Pagan" comes from the Latin words paganus and pagana meaning "country dweller or villager". After the Romans adopted Christianity as their official religion, the older religions continued to be practiced only outside of the city, in the countryside.

Welcome...
As I have wandered along my lifes path I have had an intense fascination for mythology and faery tales which sprang first into an interest in paganism and has grown into a search for gnosis.
Throughout this web site I hope to provide some of my conclusions and research as well as become a valuable resource for the Seeker of Gnosis.
In addition to the common Christological elements one will find in their gnostic studies, I hope to add pagan resources as well as include some of the things I have learnt while studying theosophy and metaphysics.
If this web site is a benefit to one person (other than myself) then it is well worth my time and effort.

General Worldwide Paganism
This section will help you to find information on Pagan paths other than those based upon witchcraft and Wicca. Just like all witches are not necessarily Wiccan, not all Pagans are witches.
Furthermore, the definition of the word Pagan seems to vary depending upon who you talk to. To a lot of Christians, anyone who isn't a member of a Judaic, Christian or Islamic faith is a Pagan. That would include all of the Hindus and Bhudists, for instance, who don't consider themselves to be Pagans. So for our reference, a Pagan is someone who follows an earth-centered religion based upon pre-Christian beliefs. Not everyone who follows a Shamanistic path considers themselves to be Pagan, either, but many do.
I follow the Wiccan path, but I do want to provide my readers with information on all of Paganism, not just my particular path. So, I've listed links to help you find information on Druidism, Celtic traditions, Asatru, Slavic and Egyptian lore and Shamanism. People who follow those paths are much more able to tell you about their belief systems than I am.

125. Ceridwen's Cauldron :: The Wheel Turns
A UK based website detailing the various apsects of paganism from a broad perspective. Includes essays, a chat room and message board.
http://www.cauldron.org.uk
The Wheel Turns... Well, the time has come and we've decided to close down Ceridwen's Cauldron. We started up the site after a particularly nice bottle of Chardonnay and a brain-storming session back in 1998. Since then, we moved from space with Demon Internet to our own domain and hosting solution . We've made lots of friends, learnt a great deal, and realised just how twisted and bigoted the Internet can really be.
The site has become stale however and we've decided to move on. We need to concentrate on new things, not least of all our son who is a bouncy 15-months old now! We want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to every visitor that stumbled across the site, contributed to the message board or had to contend with the technical horrors of the chat room. We love you all. If anyone wants a copy of the articles we've written for personal use or for use on your own site, please email us and we'll happily pass them on.
One thing we've learnt over the years is that no matter your faith or religion, your creed, colour or nationality you can always find peace in yourself. God, however you define it, exists in each and every one of us. Paganism takes a unique and appealing approach to finding it but is by no means the absolute truth. Read and learn and experience everything you can, ignore anything that doesn't make sense, take other people at face value and rely upon your instincts and what feels natural and you'll experience more beauty and magic in this world than you can imagine.

http://www.gaia-web.org/gaia-wicca/philosophy/paganism.html
Paganism
Paganism is many things. In fact, Every pagan will probably have a different understanding of just what Paganism is. Pagans tend to be individualists, so there is very little agreement on the details of what Paganism means. [Someone once said that if you get 10 pagans in a room together, you will be very lucky if you get as few as 10 opinions on any given topic.] There is, however, fairly general (though by no means universal) agreement on the broad principles discussed here. The word "pagan" comes from the Latin word paganus , which means "country dweller" or, perhaps more accurately, "hick." Because Christianity came first to the cities of Europe, the city dwellers were the first to embrace that new religion (sometimes not altogether of their own free will). Pretty soon, the old religion was followed only by the pagani , who were looked down on by the sophisticated urbanites. "Pagan" became a term of derision for a follower of the old religion. The word "heathen" means the same thing "dweller on the heath," or countryside. (English has many such word-pairs, one from Latin and one from Anglo-Saxon, that mean the same thing.) For us to embrace the words "pagan" and "heathen" as our own is a way of recapturing the history and the power of our religious tradition.
Characteristics of Paganism
Our View of People
The dominant religion in this culture, Christianity, sees people as inherently sinful. Because Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, all of us are born with "original sin" which we carry with us our entire lives unless, of course, we buy their particular brand of "salvation." (This, by the way, is also the pattern of most television commercials.)

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. ( Ephesians 5:11 Welcome. My name is Keziah Thomas, and I have created this website to reveal the horrible truth behind Neo-Paganism's "harmless" facade. This is my story of deliverance by Christ from paganism's Satanic deception. I was once a witch and a pagan, and experienced the truth behind the nature-worshipping, peaceful facade to the reality of Satan's mastery over paganism. I was delivered by the grace of God from this evil, and I am now a fundamental Christian who loves Christ! This site reveals paganism for what it really is - SATANISM! If you are a practising Pagan, I urge you to read my story and to open your heart to Jesus. No matter what you may have done, He will always accept you in love. All scriptures used are KJV.

Neo-Paganism
Doctrines Paganism is an umbrella term used to describe a variety of religions linked by common traditions; the main Pagan religions to be found in Europe are Wicca, Druidry, Shamanism, Goddess Spirituality, Sacred Ecology, the Northern Traditions, and various Magical Groups. As such, there are no official doctrines - most Pagans believe that no one belief system is correct, and that each person has the freedom to choose their own religion. The Pagan Federation, the largest umbrella organisation for Paganism in Europe, has set out three principles as follows:
Love for and kinship with nature: rather than the more customary attitude of aggression and domination over Nature; reverence for the life force and its ever-renewing cycles of life and death.
The Pagan Ethic: 'Do what thou wilt, but harm none'. This is a positive morality, not a list of thou-shalt-nots. Each individual is responsible for discovering his or her own true nature and developing it fully, in harmony with the outer world.
The concept of the Goddess and God as expressions of the Divine reality; an active participation in the cosmic dance of the Goddess and God, female and male, rather than suppression of either the female or the male principle.

WARNING! Goddesses and Wicca worship Neo-paganism at its most deceptive form
Before you start, you shoul read the Plan . Done? Then you might want to start by reading this:
Wicca, or Witchcraft is the most popular expression of the religious movement known as Neo-Paganism, which, according to the Institute for the Study of American Religion, is the fastest growing religion in the United States. It practitioners are reviving ancient Pagan practices and beliefs of pre-Christian Europe and adapting them to contemporary life. The result is a religion that is both old and new, both "traditional" and creative. Its practitioners are reviving ancient Pagan practices and beliefs of pre-Christian Europe and adapting them to contemporary life. The result is a religion that is both old and new, both "traditional" and creative. (From the Manifesto of the Covenant of the Goddess).
Neo-paganism is arising in the world today. It is not as innocent as its adherents claim, on the contrary. It is as dangerous as when God prohibited the children of Israel to mingle with the pagans and their worship in the land of Canaan.
This page will discuss in a few words the rising tide of Wicca (Witchcraft - or white witchcraft), with the emphasis on Goddess worship. You can read through the page or take a quick look at the following chapters.

It is almost irreparably misleading, though perhaps necessary, to give "Cadhinorian paganism" a name and a chapter of its own; it implies a unity of belief and organization which have never existed, and suggests that we are dealing with a body of belief as theologized and as dogmatized as are the monolithic religions described in this work, such as Cuzeian theism or Jippirasti. The peasant at his festival has little in common with the philosopher in his study, with the ancient godspeaker possessed by fantit There is even a problem of nomenclature. There was no Cadhinor word at all for the Cadhinorian religion. The closest Verdurian word is (from is not what anyone calls their beliefs; it is what you put after 'Religion:' when filling out forms, and reflects the fact that Verduria has become a religiously pluralistic society, and needs some way of telling beliefs apart. Narrower still is Finally there is rhemuris , which might be translated 'temple worship', or even 'traditional belief'; in older times it was restricted to the less radical Cadhinorian sects, but by a courtesy which has become conventional, it is applied also to Eledhe and Irrean worship. It has something of the sense of 'religion' as used by the 'family values' folks: the solid, traditional, unquestioned practices of people who go to temple every week and hold no truck with newfangled foreign imports, or various hifalutin philosophies which make you read too much and stop believing the same things as your parents or neighbors.

You'll hear stories from folks who weren't allowed to do anything fun while they were kid and folks who have faced bigotry, oppression, violence, or just plain stupidity. But what you won't hear is complaints about your fellow Pagans. Oh, you'll hear people criticize other Pagans, but not in the context of religious extremism. Usually you'll hear rants about specific people, but it's their behavior that gets called out, not their religious beliefs and practices. Even when whole groups get attacked, it's not about religion it's about what pompous bastards we Wiccans are, or something like that. As irritated as I can get with the growing anti-Wiccan sentiment, at least they're actually having the decency to attack our personalities, and not our religious beliefs. With the exception of the occasional intertraditional rift, Pagans by and large will not criticize the religious practices of other Pagans. It's not a bad code let's face it, some us are real whackos, but most are harmless enough. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred there's nothing to be gained by it. However, this code may yet prove to be the biggest liability that Pagan Community faces.

the Spirit Watch My Testimony - A Former Wiccan Speaks By Donalyn Vaughn Don't have a RealPlayer? Download here: An Ex-Wiccan Speaks - Testimony of Donalyn Vaughn H ow I got involved in paganism is all too common, I'm afraid. I was raised in a churched home. By that, I mean that we went to church but didn't live any differently than my friends who did not go to church. I was very active in the church growing up and as a teen. We attended the First Christian Church (independant), and I was active in youth group, Sunday School, choir. I was there everytime the doors were open. But I didn't have any strong background at home. I had always been fascinated by magic. I started off innocently enough reading my horoscope (my mom did this, and didn't see anything wrong with it). My favorite movies and TV shows as a kid were all about witches and magic, now I was living out my fantasy. Just like millions of people can drink a beer and never get addicted to alcohol, millions of people can watch a show like Bewitched and never think anything of it, but some people have a weakness in this area that leaves them vulnerable. I was one of those people. I had many experiences as a child that I know opened that door for me, and made me vulnerable. The pagans I met said I had a gift of the sight that ran in my family. I know now that Satan used my gifts that God had given me. All of the little openings into the occult in my childhood (the movies, TV shows, games I played, etc) opened a door, that Satan used to get me to serve him rather than God. One movie that really stuck out in my mind as starting the whole mess was a movie I watched that starred Melissa Sue Anderson as a bad witch, and another child actress as a good witch. I didn't know it at the time but it was all about Wicca, and that movie affected me greatly, and I believed opened the door to my fascination with witchcraft.

Celtic paganism
Taliesin
Taliesin is actually a title but is now most often used to refer to the 6th century Welsh druid Gwion Bach. His writing is the only so far in which I have found and actual reference to the 11-year cycle; i.e., he lived to a ripe old age for then and figured it out. Others other than him refer to the five month cycle but he quite precisely refers to a period of eight score muses, which in days is 5.5 lunar months. So I highly respect my possible ancestor's scientific skills. In this subsection I often refer to the book Taliesin: Shamanism and the Bardic Mysteries in Britain and Ireland by John Matthews (with additional material by Caitlin Matthews). The Aquarian Press/an imprint of Harper Collins, 1991 ISBN 1-85538-109-5. In Taliesin's transformational sequence he spends time in the belly of a hen, which may be related to the period of depression a few years before the first "seven score muses" shamanic initiation manic episode. Also his patron Elffin is described as having bread under the fingernails, which i believe refers to waning crescent moon. His inspiration comes at the last few drops of the cauldron, so before the crack of the cauldron at new moon, and then he must run or seek to avoid the goddess's wrath after new moon. He is found in a net, which is very like my pulling on a net (not sure if it was Haida, oops, Musqueam shellfish) after my sundance that left me floating in the water near the net.

The Roman occupation of Britain lasted from 43AD to around 400. Before the Romans invaded, the druid priesthood was the undisputed power in the land.
