Paganism, in the broadest sense includes all religions other than the true one revealed by God , and, in a narrower sense, all except Christianity Judaism , and Mohammedanism . The term is also used as the equivalent of Polytheism It is derived from the Latin pagus , whence pagani (i. e. those who live in the country), a name given to the country folk who remained heathen after the cities had become Christian . Various forms of Paganism are described in special articles (e.g. Brahminism, Buddhism, Mithraism ); the present article deals only with certain aspects of Paganism in general which will be helpful in studying its details and in judging its value. I. CLAIMS OF PAGANISM TO THE NAME OF RELIGION.
INFLUENCE ON PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LIFE
Polytheism Animism also entered largely into the religions of the Semites. Hence, we are taught, came Polyd monism, Polytheism , Monotheism. This is not correct. Polyd monism is undoubtedly a system born of belief in spirits, be these the souls of the dead or the hidden forces of nature. It "never exists alone and is not a 'religious' sentiment at all": it is not a degenerate form of Polytheism any more than its undeveloped antecedent. Animism, which is really a na ve philosophy, played an immense part in the formation of mythologies, and, combined with an already conscious monotheistic belief, undoubtedly gave rise to the complex forms of both Polyd monism and

A comparison of Modern and Ancient Pagan Religions
Our entry is based on paganism in it's ancient and modern forms. In our pages we look at various aspects of ancient paganism such as ancient Roman and Greek religions as well as doing several comparisons on ancient forms of paganism and their modern counterparts. Examples of these are Wicca and Neo-Drudism. We explore the differences as well as the similiarities between the ancient pagan religions and their comtemporary forms. We have pages on paganism in general, neo-paganism and examples of both. We also explore the reasons modern people turn to paganism. In our pages we attempt to give a factual, unbiassed account of the facts in a educational, but interesting manner. We include interesting pictures and graphics and as we found it hard to find pages with detailed information, we tried to be as indepth and detailed as possible. DAILY QUOTES SACRED VERSES LINKS Welcome to the Indian Paganism site This site has two main objectives - Firstly, to contribute towards the development of modern Pagan-Hindu Magickal traditions within the fields of contemporary Paganism and Magick. Secondly, to explore the thousands of years of various Pagan and Hindu beliefs, traditions and customs in a comparative context. There already exists a great degree of shared roots and similarity between Pagan and Hindu religions, such as those of Wicca and Tantrika. Today many modern eclectic Pagans, Witches and Magicians work with Hindu deities and various aspects of Hindu paths. There are also groups who are working in Pagan-Hindu Magickal systems. This site, and the coming book 'Indian Paganism', aim to help the continuing development of this movement by assisting in the growth of modern Pagan-Hindu Magickal traditions and practices. Click to subscribe to Indian Paganism Daily Quotes The Indian Paganism site also offers a free daily quote service which shares either a Pagan, Hindu, or Magickal quote each day. Quotes are drawn from a wide variety of quality sources and reflect the extensive philosophy and underlying unity which exist between Paganism and Hinduism. The main resource areas from which quotes are drawn are Wiccan, Witchcraft, Classical Pagan, Neo-Pagan, Tantrik, Vedic, and Ceremonial Magick. A few of the authors and figures quoted include Starhawk, Doreen Valiente, Stewart Farrar, Marcus Aurelius, Ramana Maharshi, Swami Sivananda, Bhagavan Nityanandaji, Sri Ramakrishna, Aliester Crowley, Dion Fortune, and Eliphis Levi.

Current Phase of the Moon Neopaganism covers a wide range of belief systems which have emerged in the past 50 years, primarily in the UK, Europe, and the United States. This includes the better known Wicca, which is a synthesis of traditions from the British Isles, as well as many less visible groups which draw inspiration from other parts of the world. Based on folk-lore, traditional spiritual practices, anthropology, and a synthesis of esoteric systems, Neopaganism does not have any sacred texts of the same vintage as other religions, although unverifiable claims have been made in a couple of cases (e.g. Aradia , and The Gardnerian Book of Shadows Rather, the books presented here are source texts of Neopaganism, and other books which deal with related topics. Many of these books contain outdated or speculative material, and some of the texts here are the product of the Renaissance witch hunters. As a whole, the books here are of historical importance rather than a roadmap to modern pagan practice, and shouldn't be construed as such. As always, we encourage readers to think critically. Descriptions of contemporary Neopagan practice and beliefs can be found in the Internet Book of Shadows section of this site.

Paganism today Paganism is a collection of diverse contemporary religions rooted in or inspired by indigenous traditions worldwide. Pagan religions are characterized by Earth- centered spirituality, belief in the interconnection of all life, personal autonomy, polytheism, and immanent divinity. Pagans value diversity, good works, living lightly on the Earth, individual freedom, personal responsibility, community service, gender equity, and spiritual development. While the largest segment of the Pagan population is Caucasian, highly educated, and middle class, Pagans come from all walks of life. Most are avid readers with interests in ecology, creativity, and personal growth. Many work in scientific and computer- related disciplines. Since Paganism is not an organized movement, it is difficult to determine the number of practitioners. Estimates range from 100,000 to several million in the U.S. alone. Pagan religions may draw on ancient historical practices or be entirely new. In the case of the former, Pagans look to the beliefs, practices, gods, symbols, lands, music, and myths of a particular historical culture and adapt them for contemporary needs. Anachronistic elements, such as ritual violence, are rejected. Elements such as reverence for the natural world, honoring of the ancestors, and responsibility to the community are retained. Pagan religions which are not historically based take their inspiration from visionary, artistic, and libertarian traditions to create vibrant spiritual systems centered in Pagan values.

As a result there is a huge gap between scholarly approaches to folklore studies and 'popular beliefs' about the character and history of British folklore. Explore Folklore is the first book to bridge that gap, and to show how much 'folklore' there is in modern day Britain.

Back to Home Page or Contents Page or Religions and Sects or Index Paganism P aganism is a general term which is usually understood as denoting any religious act, practice or ceremony which is not Christian. Anyone practicing paganism is usually known as a pagan. The word pagan comes from the Latin word paganus which means a country dweller . As Christianity grew the term pagan took on a different definition and unsavory connotations. Gradually a pagan referred to anyone not being a Christian; and paganism came to mean a non-Christian belief or religion. The Christian Church has vigorously attempted to eradicate it by implying that pagans are unsophisticated, uneducated and worship false gods. Present day pagans or Neo-pagans, as some refer to themselves, find a unison with the ecstatic and mysticism of the pre-Christian religions which they find missing in the mainstream Western religion. Neo-paganism brings them closer to both nature and the Divine Force. The Christian God seems remote or alienated to them, and they see most Christians as viewing nature as just something to be exploited. Most pagans and Neo-pagans view paganism as a religion chiefly worshiping the Mother Goddess, God and nature. The religion also is polytheistic having many deities in the pantheon. To some these goddesses and gods are more than just deities, they represent archetypes of the collective unconsciousness. A.G.H.

The New Age Movement: Reversion to Paganism
How the New Age Movement undermines the very foundations of a moral society By Mayer Adani For the past several decades, as a strategic exploitation by the Secular Humanist camp of the human tendency toward the spiritual, there has been a concerted propagation of a spirituality which denies G-D and His Law. This Modern Pagan Resurgence –promoted by leading personalities including "former" Communists (e.g., Mikhail Gorbachev, Nelson Mandela)– is the so-called New Age Movement. What is the New Age Movement (NAM)?
The essence of the NAM is “Spirituality Without [Biblical] Morality”. The NAM is a collection of movements that seeks to supplant the relatively monotheistic worldview of Western society with a modern version of the occultic, pre-Abrahamic pagan worldview. “Shifting Paradigms,” one name for the NAM, is correct, but vague. “Back to Babel” is more precise. For several decades, a growing collection of subversive movements has been coalescing around this international occultic pagan resurgence, promoting causes such as:

11. Christmas Paganism
Contends that Christmas is not a Christian holiday and encourages readers to follow Jesus.
http://www.hwcn.org/~al889/relgn/xmas96.html
The True Meaning Of Christmas
Except for Christ in the name, Christmas is pagan. The word mass is pagan and the customs surrounding it and Christmas are pagan. The very celebration without the rituals surrounding it is pagan. Pagan simply means that it is not from God. What is fr om God is easily proven. You can find it in your own Bible. The only mention of a yearly birthday celebration other than the actual day of birth is in the book of Job. Even then it is somewhat speculative. Jobs children it is said celebrated each thei r own day. They were all put to death and Job was sorely tested for his self righteousness. I believe that the testing was because Job allowed his family to practise a pagan observance. Pagan observances were all originated by man or by Satan through man. The origins of these traditions and the customs that surround them are often very difficult to trace. Because a specific custom or tradition cannot be traced is no reason to attribut e it to God. God's commandments and ordinances are easily found in the pages of the readily available Bible. It is interesting to note that the word tradition is one of only two words in the New Testament that adds up to 666, the number of the beast and of the mark of the beast spoken of in the book of Revelations chapter 13. The other word is wealth. As far as wealth goes the Roman Catholic Church does not need charitable contributions. It is self sufficient. It is wealthy. It is deeply entangled in politics, business and monetary ventures and schemes throughout much of the world. It has roots in the old Holy Roman Empire.

The following article has been written from a variety of different sources. These include: My own former experience with Witchcraft and occultism in general prior to my conversion to Christ, reading various Pagan and Wiccan literature, having Pagan and Wiccan friends, and having numerous email, message board, and chat room dialogues with those in the Pagan communities. This article will seek to identify, and assess, issues relevant to both Pagans and Christians alike, in a fair and balanced manner. Ecology
Pagans of all persuasions revere nature. In fact, many individuals are attracted to Paganism as a direct result of a connection that they feel with the world around them and the beauty of the world they see. This reverence for nature leads many Pagans to the conclusion that the world itself must be divine. ""Our religion is about the sacredness of this life on this Earth, here and now. We are "Nature worshipers" so Nature is a sacred study for us. To paraphrase, we want to see Her more clearly, love Her more dearly, and follow her more nearly. Any ecological study, any bird watching, or other such activities, help us to understand Mother Gaia." ( Chas S. Clifton (ed.), Modern Rites of Passage: Witchcraft Today, Book Two, 1994, p. 99
