Shaikh Abid was a scholar of the Shaikhiya sect, and so he infused all the ideas of the Shaikhiya sect into the mind of Mohammed Bab. Under Shaikh Abid he studied Persian, Calligraphy, and some elementary Arabic grammar. After Shaikh Abid, he studied under another teacher by the name of Mohammed. It was about this teacher that Ali Mohammed Bab wrote in one of his epistles, "O my teacher Mohammed! Don’t thrash me too much!"

Sex-change surgery for transsexuals is legal, but the recommended year of transition is skipped, because until the surgery is complete, you are considered criminally homosexual. This puts tremendous pressure on transgendered people to have surgery, whether they want it or not. There is an additional cultural pressure in Iran because, like Argentina, it is a big fan of elective surgery. A few years ago, U.S.-trained doctors successfully pushed hysterectomies in Iran, according to New York Times correspondent Elaine Sciolino. "Now it's nose jobs and face-lifts," she adds. Businesses closed and school children hurried home in the heavily Muslim northern city of Kano as thousands of protesters some carrying daggers and clubs marched from the city's main mosque to protest the attacks on Hausa-speaking Muslims by fighters from the Tarok-speaking tribe in the central Nigerian town of Yelwa. Some demonstrators smashed and burned cars and stores. One badly burned corpse lay on a street after the march passed, but it was unclear how the person died.
