A message from Dennis Kucinich ( audio
Hi everyone, this is Dennis!
I just got off the phone with an ABC reporter from Anchorage, Alaska, who informed me that we took 50% of the vote in the Alaska state caucus. That is tremendous news for a campaign that has been growing with strength across this country, and now we've achieved a first place tie in a state, and I'm so excited about it!
As you know in the last week we've had a lot of success. We started off the last week with 17% in Oregon. We went to 25% in the Maine state caucus. We went to 30% in the state convention in Colorado. And now we've received word of 50% in the state of Alaska. I'm in Montana now. I've been campaigning across this state for the primary, which is on June the 8th.
In the last 10 days, we've had stories in the LA Times, in the New York Times, in USA Today. I've been on Meet the Press, on Crossfire, on the Wolf Blitzer show, and on MSNBC. And there's more attention being given to our message. And our stand for peace and for civil liberties and health care for all and fair trade is finally beginning to resonate!
Now, it's true, the direction of the nomination appears to be more or less decided. However, we're having an impact on the direction of our Party, and YOU'RE having an impact on the direction America's going to take for the next four years. So, it's not too late. And it's not too late to give us even more energy in the remaining primaries and caucuses.

From Malaysia to Iran, gay men and women are joining each other in a virtual way. Sites created by gay Muslims living in the United States offer a safe and anonymous space for a community that lives in constant fear of being discovered. "The Internet really helped me come out to at least to myself," said Niloufar, creator of Khanaye Doost , an online community for Iranian lesbians. "Almost by accident, I found all these gay sites. I realized there is this whole family out there." The Web offers a safe source of information in traditional Islamic cultures, where being gay can be downright dangerous. Victor Davis Hanson email article respond to article print article S F any Afghan tribal councils, without written constitutions, are better than tyranny, surely; but they do not make consensual government. Nor do the Palestinian parliament and advisory bodies in Kuwait. None of these faux assemblies is elected by an unbound citizenry, free to criticize (much less recall, impeach, or depose) their heads of state by legal means, or even to speak openly to journalists about the failings of their own government. Plato remarked of such superficial government-by-deliberation that even thieves divvy up the loot by give-and-take, suggesting that the human tendency to parley is natural but is not the same as the formal machinery of democratic government. Our own cultural elites, either out of timidity or sometimes ignorance of the uniqueness of our own political institutions, seldom make such distinctions. But the differences are critical, because they lie unnoticed at the heart of the crisis in the Muslim world, and they explain our own tenuous relations with the regimes in the Gulf and the Middle East. Israel does not really know to what degree the Palestinian authorities have a real constituency

Tens of thousands of people perhaps even more than a million have descended on the great mosques of Karbala in Iraq for this year's Ashura commemoration. Ashura commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein a top Shiite saint and the grandson of the prophet Muhammad who died in 680. Banned under Saddam Hussein's Sunni-dominated regime for fears it could foment rebellion, the event this year held special significance because it was the first time in 30 years Shiites were allowed to observe it.

Thousands fled Yelwa during the violence A spokesman for Nigeria's Muslims has called for a judicial enquiry into clashes in the central Plateau State, which claimed at least 67 lives.
Justice Abdulkadir Orire told the BBC that some 200 Muslims were killed when they were attacked by Christian militiamen with machine guns. Some 600 armed police have been sent to the town of Yelwa to restore order. A curfew has been imposed in Yelwa and the security forces have been told to shoot trouble-makers on sight. Justice Orire, a retired judge, also urged the Plateau State governor to clarify reports that he told non-indigenous people to leave. BBC Africa analyst Elizabeth Blunt says that "'non-indigenes" means the Muslim community, even though it may be 100 years since their families settled in the area. Plateau State police commissioner Innocent Iluzuoke told the BBC that the police had counted 67 dead but it was impossible to say exactly how many people had been killed because townspeople had already started burying their dead. 'Revenge' Mutilated and charred corpses were still lying on the main street of the remote market town on Tuesday, reports a Reuters correspondent in the town.

Law agencies trying to recruit Muslims
Job fair attracts the curious and career-minded. From Brian Palmer CNN New York Bureau PATERSON, New Jersey (CNN) Law enforcement agencies reached out to the Muslim community here Saturday night to ease tensions created following the September 11 attacks and to fill the need for agents and other officials with Arabic and Farsi language skills. Federal, state and local agencies, including the FBI, the Secret Service, the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the New Jersey State Police held a job fair at the Islamic Center of Passaic County, one of the largest mosques in this area. "The career fair is for everybody. Obviously we're grateful to get the Islamic people here, too," said Anthony Colegary, a recruiter for the Secret Service. Anas Abedrabough, a Syrian immigrant, was one of the people who came to the mosque Sunday, both to pray and to look for a job.

US immigration officials in Southern California have detained hundreds of Iranians and other Muslim men who turned up to register under residence laws brought in as part of the anti-terror drive. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is refusing to say how many people were arrested but said detainees were being held for suspected visa violations and other offences. The arrests sparked angry protests in Los Angeles by thousands of Iranian-Americans waving banners which read "What's next? Concentration camps?" and "Free our fathers, brothers, husbands and sons". Official radio in Iran also reported the arrests and the protests, which it said were mounted by families of the detainees who converged on Los Angeles.

Bush: U.S. Muslims should feel safe
The following is a transcript of President Bush's comments at a Washington mosque Monday afternoon: Thank you all very much for your hospitality. We've just had a wide-ranging discussion on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks, and so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans, our Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslim in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens. These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith, and it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that. I tried to be patriotic. I tried to believe. I watched those quarter mile high buildings fall through their jaw-dropping catastrophes over and over again. I listened to the announcer and the experts explain what had happened. And I worked at my pitiful lack of faith, pounding my skull with the remote control and staring at the flickering images on the TV screen. But poor mental peasant that I am, I could not escape the teachings of my forefathers. I fear I am trapped in my time, walled off from further scientific understanding by my inability to abandon the Second Millennium mindset. But enough of myself. Let us move on to the Science and Technology of the 21st Century. Those of you who cannot believe should learn the official truth by rote and perhaps you will be able to hide your ignorance. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A Muslim is a believer in or follower of Islam . The word Muslim means one who submits and implies complete submission to the will of God . Muslims believe that nature is itself Islamic, since it follows natural laws placed by God. Thus a Muslim strives to surrender to God's commands every step of the way. There is no distinction made between daily life and religion or politics. The basic beliefs of Muslims are: belief in God, His angels, His revealed Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgement, and affirmation of fate and the Divine Decree, the good of it and the bad of it. The Five Pillars of Islam on which a Muslim's life is founded are:
  • The Testimony that there is none worthy of worship except God and that Muhammad is his messenger. Establishing of the five daily Prayers (Salaah). The Giving of Zakaah (charity), which is generally 2.5% of the yearly savings for a rich man working in trade or industry, and 10% or 20% of the produce for agriculturists. This money or produce is distributed among the poor. Refraining from eating, drinking and having sex from dawn to dusk in the month of Ramadhaan (Sawm).

Islam Arabic Abrahamic monotheism (along with Christianity and Judaism ). With over 1.3 billion adherents worldwide, Muslims believe that Islam was revealed by God to all his messengers including Noah Abraham Moses Jesus , and finally Muhammad , the last Prophet of this line. Followers of Islam are known as Muslims . In some older English texts they are referred to as "Muhammadans" or "Mohammedans", but these terms are deprecated because they imply, incorrectly, that Muslims worship Muhammad, and so these terms are offensive to many Muslims. Statement of belief
Perhaps the most succinct and clear statement of Muslim belief is to be found in the two shahaadah (Arabic for 'statement'): La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur rasulullah "There is no God but God; Muhammad is the messenger of God" . One needs to recite these statements to become a Muslim. So, technically, it requires only few seconds to become a Muslim. The other pillars of Islam all refer to rituals rather than faith.

Strangers in their own Land
Beijing has branded them part of the "Bin Laden Clique," making human rights monitors worry that China is stepping up repression of its own Muslim minority. But Uighurs say things in the distant Wild West remain unchanged, meaning miserable and hopeless.
By Ron Gluckman /Kashgar, Turpin, Urumchi and around Xinjiang, China A BDULLAH AHMED KNOWS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE to be an outsider. A decade after leaving his home in China, Ahmed is a successful businessman in Dubai. He drives a luxury utility vehicle, and his son attends an expensive international school. Yet strict laws keep Dubai's huge foreign population, which outnumbers the locals about 4 to 1, as second-class citizens. "We cannot buy property, so we flush away our money in rents," he laments. "We have no real rights, even those who have been in Dubai for generations." Returning home, however, provides no solace. Even in his own country, Ahmed often feels like an outcast. Arriving in Beijing recently, he faced hassles as soon as he stepped off the airplane. "Hotels wouldn't accept me," he says. "They said they had rooms when I first called, but they lied about being full as soon as they saw me."
