This cemetery is maintained on a regular basis and is in good shape. The SE section has very few burial monuments, with the few remaining being older burial monuments. The NE and SW sections are fairly full of burials, with the NW section having the most recent burials. Within the boundaries of the Moravian Cemetery is the Priebe Family Cemetery . I have listed the Priebe Family Cemetery as a separate cemetery. In the "Compendium of History and Biography of Carver and Hennepin Counties, Minnesota" [1915] edited by Maj. R.I. Holcombe and William H. Bingham, they wrote: "The first regularly organized church to hold religious services was the Maravian. It was formed 1 January 1858 ..." (page 231). This cemeteries burial monuments were transcribed during the spring of 1998.

This cemetery has regular care and is in good shape. This rural church and cemetery are located about 6 - 7 miles north and west of Chaska, Minnesota, along Carver County Road 10, or 3 miles south and east of Waconia, Minnesota. During the visit to this cemetery a groundskeeper explained some of the churches history. My understanding is that this church was used on a regular basis until the 1930’s when the congregation began to use the Waconia Moravian Church on a regular basis. At the present time the Zoar Moravian Church is still used on a semi-regular basis, specifically for Easter Sunday Services and Wednesday Night Vesper services during the summer months. To my knowledge both the Waconia Moravian Congregation and the related Zoar Moravian Congregation use the Zoar Moravian Church Cemetery for burials. In the 1915 "Compendium of History and Biography of Carver and Hennepin Counties, Minnesota", edited by Maj. R.I. Holcombe and William H. Bingham, they wrote: ‘... The site of Zoar Church is the northwest quarter of section 32, and comprises two acres which were generously given for church and cemetery purposes by Mr. Rudiger. The first interment in the cemetery was that of the remains of Mrs. Fritz Rudiger, who died in 1856.’

Moravian Church History
– Roger Kennedy The origin of the Moravian chuch is from what is now known as the Czech Republic, in the ancient areas of Moravia and Bohemia. As Rome began to gain more influence in these areas, John Hus (1369-1415) began to lead a reformation movement against the Roman Catholic Church. He was burned at the stake as a heretic in 1415. Contrary to the Rome's goal, his death became a rallying point for the reformation movement. The Moravian Church or Unitas Fratrum (Unity of Brethren) was born of his ashes in 1457 east of Prague at the estate of Lititz. In less than 100 years, by 1517 the Moravian Church had over 200,000 followers and a Bible in their own language. Due to religious persecution, by 1557 there was a branch of the Church in Poland.

    Moravian
A Moravian is a Protestant belonging to a religious movement that originated in the Moravia region (now in the Czech Republic ), which was brought to the United States in the early by immigrants originating from the German Anabaptists . The original attempt to found a Moravian community was in Georgia , but that attempt failed. The Moravians later found a home in Pennsylvania , where the colony provided some of the greatest religious freedom to be found in the world. The towns of Bethlehem Nazareth and Emmaus , Pennsylvania were founded as Moravian communities. Later, colonies were founded in North Carolina , starting with Wachovia, and later Bethabara, Bethania and Salem (now Winston-Salem ). Bethlehem became the headquarters of the northern church, and Winston-Salem became the headquarters of the southern church. The Moravian denomination persists in America to this day, with congregations in eighteen states. There are also congregations in three Canadian provinces. There are four provinces in North America: Northern, Southern, Alaska, and Labrador. The establishment of the Moravian church as a Christian church occurred as a reaction against certain alleged errors within the Roman Catholic church. This movement was started by a priest named
