VISION STATEMENT
  • The Moravian Church – Northern Province is a vital agent of reconciliation in a world yearning for the good news of Jesus Christ. We are an interconnected body of dynamic and growing churches embracing the diversity of all God’s creation. Our mission is listening, discerning and responding to the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of people in the places in which we minister. These servant churches, both formal and informal, are Christ-centered and are led by competent clergy and gifted laity who are equipped and empowered to embody the love of Jesus Christ through a life of faithful discipleship.
  • The Province and Districts exist to empower the congregations to pursue ministries in an ever-changing world, and remain open to new models for leadership and ministry so that the church is poised to reach out and respond to the issues facing God’s world. At all levels, locally and globally, the church cooperates with other Christian entities to proclaim Christ and witness to God’s redeeming action through Jesus Christ.

Our Mission
"We are committed, with the help of the Holy Spirit: to lead people to an active relationship with Christ, worship God, join Christ's family, follow Him, nurture one another and serve the needs of all people." St. Paul's has been helping people connect with God and other people since our beginning in 1970. We serve as a gathering place for groups as varied as the Citizens Association of Marlton, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Mothers of Marlton, and the Southern Maryland Caged Bird Club. Our members come from many religious backgrounds, including Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Episcopal, Roman Catholic, Assemblies of God and Brethren Churches and even a few former atheists. Our backgrounds and traditions may be different, but we share a common faith in Christ and are part of a wonderful spiritual family at St. Paul's. We welcome anyone who wants to know God and be part of His Church. We are proud to be an interracial congregation. If you are seeking a closer relationship with God and want to be part of a caring Christian family then you will feel at home at St. Paul's.

Moravians today The Moravian Church today is a community of people who, despite many changes, attempt to fulfil the words of Christ, We have but one Master, Jesus Christ; and we are all brothers and sisters in him.
Within the Moravian Church throughout the world there exists a very special relationship between the members that not even culture, politics, or war has been able to damage.
What are our services like?
The Church uses liturgy, providing orderliness similar to Anglican worship, but there is also liberty to use a free order when desired. Communion is celebrated monthly, in many congregations after the morning or evening service, a number of the older congregations hold a monthly Lovefeast, a service of shared news and light refreshments, followed by Communion. Infant Baptism followed later by Confirmation is the recognised form of entry into membership.
Where in the UK are we?
Moravians first came to Britain in the 1730s and set up congregations by invitation of local people often establishing Settlements with their own farms, industries and schools. Even today the Church has two private boarding/day schools at Ockbrook near Derby and Fulneck near Leeds.

Ephraim's Historical Heritage
Ephraim's historic places include the site of the first landing by Pastor Iverson in 1853, the site of the first Moravian Church (1858), the Pioneer Schoolhouse (1880), the Anderson store and dock warehouse, as well as the Anderson Barn and eight homes more than a century old.
Anderson's Store and Dock have been depicted over and over by artists and photographed by thousands. The dock building originally served as a warehouse for the store; later it held fish, orchard crops, lumber and farm products for shipment by boat. Much later it was Ephraim's first improvised movie theater, with viewers sitting on planks supported by kegs found in the warehouse. Today the warehouse siding is completely carved and painted with the names of boaters who have docked there.
The Foundation was established in 1949 and it plays a substantial role in helping to preserve the community's values by working with the Ephraim Village board and other community groups. Its purpose was clearly set forth in Article I of its by-laws:
... to preserve and foster preservation of historical monuments, buildings, structures, sites, documents, relics; and to foster the development of cultural services, including libraries, art, and historical museums, adult education and other civic services, especially within the Village of Ephraim, but also including the State of Wisconsin, and to do all things necessary, including the purchasing and selling of real estate to carry out these purposes.

Organization of the Province Church History A Brief Account of the Moravian Church, Southern Province ... Daily Text
A Brief Account of the Moravian Church, Southern Province The first attempt by the Moravian Church to establish itself in the English colonies in America was a failure. James Oglethorpe invited the Moravians to settle in his colony of Georgia, and the Moravians responded by sending a party to Savannah in 1735. Several insurmountable difficulties arose almost immediately. The natives to whom we wished to bring the gospel had moved too far into the interior to be effectively reached. The climate proved pernicious. The neighbors failed to understand the Moravians' stand against violence when war broke out with nearby Spanish Catholic Florida. By 1740 the Moravians saw the wisdom of relocating and moved to William Penn's colony of Pennsylvania, where the Northern Province of the Moravian Church in America was born. Our permanent growth as the Moravian Church in America, Southern Province, began not as an isolated mission endeavor like St. Thomas or Greenland, but as "settlement congregations" for church members who were immigrating from earlier Moravian settlements in Pennsylvania or Europe. Of necessity, our goal of mission work came later in our history. From the outset Wachovia's first settlement was intended to remain a Unity farm, not a central city, and the name given to it reflects that intent: Bethabara, from the Hebrew meaning "House of Passage" (John 1:28, King James Version). However, progress was slow in carving from the wilderness other "villages of the Lord," as Spangenberg envisioned them. On June 12, 1759, in the midst of the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War), Spangenberg and other church leaders laid out Wachovia's first planned community, Bethania, which the following April 13 was organized as a congregation of the Unity. Bethania was different from other Moravian settlement congregations. Eight refugee families petitioned to be a part of it, and so Bethania began as a mixed community of Moravians from Bethabara and "strangers" or newcomers to the Moravian Church.
