Meditation - The Buddhist Way to Happiness
Escape from the busyness of modern life by discovering the ancient art of Buddhist meditation. Create an inner space and tranquility free from the turbulence of modern living. Meditation helps you:
  • increase positive states of mind reduce stress and anxiety experience greater contentment and well-being improve concentration develop better relationships maintain greater physical health The purpose of meditation is to make our mind calm and peaceful. If our mind is peaceful we shall be free from worries and mental discomfort, and we shall experience true happiness; but if our mind is not peaceful we shall find it very difficult to be happy, even if we are living in the very best conditions. If we train in meditation our mind will gradually become more and more peaceful, and we shall experience a purer and purer form of happiness. Eventually, we shall be happy all of the time, even in the most difficult circumstances.

The result of an unbridled pursuit of happiness from external sources is that our planet is being destroyed and our lives are becoming more complicated and dissatisfying. It is time we sought happiness from a different source. Happiness is a state of mind, so the real source of happiness must lie within the mind, not in external conditions. If our mind is pure and peaceful, we shall be happy, regardless of our external circumstances Eight Steps to Happiness

Faith and Wisdom : Guidance and Protection in Troubled Times
December 30, 2003 - January 4, 2004 The Pacific Northwest rang in the New Year with a wonderful Dharma Celebration : Faith and Wisdom, Guidance and Protection in Troubled Times .This was the fifth consecutive Dharma Celebration to be held in the Pacific Northwest and the first with Gen-la Samden Gyatso. The New Year is a time for reflection and contemplation. At this special Buddhist Celebration we contemplated how faith and wisdom can offer us guidance and protection in these troubled times. Faith makes our mind tranquil and clear. It dispels doubt and enables us to see a pure and perfect world beyond the suffering world of samsara. Wisdom cuts through our confusion and protects us from problems. It gives us a profound inner peace that we can share with others. The Dharma Celebration took place over the new year and was held in two different locations. The celebration goers listened to teachings and advice from Venerable Gen-la Samden Gyatso, Deputy Spiritual Director of the NKT and one of Venerable Geshe-la's principal disciples.
