Kadampa Buddhism
Kadampa Buddhism is a Mahayana Buddhist school founded by the great Indian Buddhist Master Atisha (AD 982-1054). His followers are known as 'Kadampas'. 'Ka' refers to Buddha's teachings, and 'dam' to Atisha's special Lamrim instructions known as 'the stages of the path to enlightenment'. Kadampas, then, are practitioners who regard Buddha's teachings as personal instructions and put them into practice by following the instructions of Lamrim The Kadampa tradition was later promoted widely in Tibet by Je Tsongkhapa and his followers, who were known as the 'New Kadampas'.

    http://aboutbuddhists.org/
    Welcome to About Buddhists
All living beings have the same basic wish to be happy and avoid suffering, but very few people understand the real causes of happiness and suffering. We generally believe that external conditions such as food, friends, cars, and money are the real causes of happiness, and as a result we devote nearly all our time and energy to acquiring these. Superficially it seems that these things can make us happy, but if we look more deeply we will see that they also bring us a lot of suffering and problems. Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes cannot be found outside the mind. The real source of happiness is inner peace. If our mind is peaceful, we shall be happy all the time, regardless of external conditions, but if it is disturbed or troubled in any way, we shall never be happy, no matter how good our external con- ditions may be. External conditions can only make us happy if our mind is peaceful. We can understand this through our own experience. For instance, even if we are in the most beautiful surroundings and have everything we need, the moment we get angry any happiness we may have disappears. This is because anger has destroyed our inner peace. Subscribe Below For More Information!

    Kadampa Buddhism
Tilopa Centre is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) of Mahayana Buddhism. The Kadampa Tradition originates from Atisha, an Indian Buddhist master who was invited to teach in Tibet in the 10th century. Atisha specially arranged of all Buddha's teachings into a comprehensive collection that explains how to enter into, progress, and complete the Buddhist path to enlightenment. This arrangement became known as Lamrim in Tibetan or Stages of the Path to Enlightenment. Someone who practices Lamrim is a Kadampa.
As Spiritual Director of the NKT, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso encourages his students to be inspired by the Kadampa Geshes, the followers of Atisha, who were not only great scholars but also spiritual practitioners of great purity and sincerity. In the 14th century another great teacher, Je Tsongkhapa appeared in Tibet. He became famous for his clear teachings and profound writings. After this time, the tradition became known as the New Kadampa Tradition. All of Geshe Kelsang's books are commentaries to Je Tsongkhapa's teachings and maintain this unbroken lineage of teachings from Buddha Shakyamuni, through Atisha, to Je Tsongkhapa to the present day.
There are now nearly 700 Buddhist centres and groups worldwide that are members of the New Kadampa Tradition. Tilopa Buddhist Centre takes its name from a great Indian Buddhist practitioner and one of our lineage Gurus. Tilopa appeared as a poor fisherman, and is often portrayed holding a fish in his hand; hence our logo, which also reminds us of one of the eight Buddhist auspicious symbols, the two fish. These two fish represent peace and harmony amongst Buddhist practitioners, just as two fish swim peacefully under water.
