Neatly dressed people holding religious literature in their hand, approaching passers-by, is a picture that is hardly surprising nowadays, so a phone call in my apartment did not take me by surprise, either. And when a woman’s voice on the other end of the line asked if I wanted to hear good news of God, I knew right away who it was and what the topic of the conversation was going to be. When I asked my interlocutor to introduce herself and her religious affiliation, a predictable answer followed: “I am with Jehovah’s Witnesses World Organization.” She started our talk with a traditional question: did I agree that not all religious organizations follow the path of truth? Naturally, my answer was yes, like there was anyone who would ever say something different! And when she asked whether I agreed that there was one organization on this Earth indeed representing God, I did not object, either. Jehovah’s Witnesses go around saying that they are the best experts on the Bible, with their church’s original name, 'Bible Scholars', speaking volumes all by itself! Having only a very basic idea of theology as a discipline, I did not contest her superiority in this regard, and just offered to discuss with her some points within the Holy Scriptures.

Jehovah’s Witnesses and BLOOD A physician's guide to saving lives and limiting personal liability Please support Jehovah's Witnesses who might receive blood transfusions We are a group of Jehovah's Witnesses who sincerely believe that the decision to refuse or accept blood transfusions is a purely personal matter which should be decided individually based on our own conscience rather than the mandate coming from our organization, the Watch Tower Society (WTS). We believe that the Bible, which is the ultimate guide of our Christian life, does not forbid the medical use of blood. We also believe that the current policy of banning certain blood transfusions, as enforced by the WTS, is plagued with in-consistencies and contradictions with no Scriptural support. We are appealing to the organization to reform this outdated policy in view of rapidly changing medical technology. At the same time, we are asking the medical community to support our effort. We are fully aware of the potential risks involved in blood transfusions, and we request that bloodless treatment and alternatives to blood transfusions be used whenever such treatments are available without undue risk. However, when there are no such alternatives, such as when we have massive and uncontrollable hemorrhage, and bleeding to death appears inevitable, we believe physicians should be permitted to make every effort to stabilize our condition, including the use of blood transfusions. When you encounter a Jehovah's Witness patient the next time, please remember he or she might agree to accept blood transfusions despite their status as an active Jehovah's Witness. If you have established a belief that every Jehovah's Witness patient will universally refuse blood transfusions, it is time to reconsider this notion. Please investigate the individual JW patient's understanding of the WTS blood policy, including components they may not be aware that the WTS now permits, as well as the risk versus benefit analysis of blood transfusions, and the degree of commitment. Support Groups Origin The Jehovah´s Witnesses are a religious movement which was founded in the 1870s by the American Charles Taze Russell. He considered himself able to calculate the year in which the end of the world was due, primarily from the data in the Revelation of Saint John, and the Book of Daniel. He initially came up with the year 1914. In that year the so-called Battle of Armageddon was to take place, in which all true Witnesses of Jehovah would be saved. 144,000 of these Witnesses were to obtain an exclusive salvation. In Heaven, together with Jesus, they were going to govern the coming new world. The remainder of the Witnesses were to be saved in another way: First they were to clean up after all the dead non-Jehovah´s Witnesses, and then create a paradise kingdom on earth. Signs of the imminent End were: natural disasters, increasing violence, wars and economic trouble. When the end did not come in 1914, new dates were fixed: 1918, 1925, 1941, and 1975. These mistaken predictions have been embarrassing every time. Yet, there has been no shortage of imaginative explanations. The closeness of the end of the world remains the most important part of the teachings, though today there is no longer a fixed year for the battle of Armageddon. At the time of Russell´s death, the foundation of a large American organization had been laid: The Watchtower Society. A lot of people all over the world were affiliated with the society. Under the leadership of President Russell´s successor, Judge Rutherford, a theocracy was introduced: The top management of the Watchtower Society, "The Governing Body", was now said to be directly led by God. What these leading men decide and agree upon becomes law for the followers, for they claim to have their authority and power from God.

Jehovah's witnesses are very strongly cultic in both doctrine and behaviour, thus fitting both categories of false doctrine and mind control. What they will tell you: Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians (although this varies - some JWs will not say this). What they won't tell you: They believe that all true Christian churches are of the devil. They believe Jesus is not God, but is the Archangel Michael - the first being created by God. They deny that God is a Trinity. They believe Jesus died on a stake, rather than a cross. They deny that Jesus rose bodily from the dead. They believe that ony 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses will go to heaven. The rest will live forever in a paradise on Earth, never meeting the person who died for them - Jesus Christ. They believe that salvation is impossible outside of the Watchtower. They are not allowed to question the Watchtower leadership or teaching. They claim you need to read the Watchtower's magazines and other material in order to understand the Bible correctly. If you don't read the Watchtower's books, you will "fall into darkness" - what they call reverting to normal Christianity. They have falsely predicted the end of the world five times.
