How often have you had a knock on the door, opened it, and come face to face with a bearded Jehovah's Witness? This all may sound rather bizarre, but Jehovah’s Witnesses seem to have a sort of unwritten traditional oral law that says beards are a big no no. I have no doubt that there are some Jehovah‘s Witnesses who do wear beards but these are most certainly the exception rather than the norm. More often than not, such one‘s are encouraged to shave their beards off. Generally, there does not seem to be anything specific in Watchtower literature that explicitly forbids beards, but there are instances where it is strongly suggested that Witnesses should not wear one: In the Watchtower magazine, "Questions from Readers " section, under the question: "When Jesus Christ was a man on earth, did he wear a beard?", it answers: "Today Christian ministers, like the early Christians, are concerned with neatness and cleanness, but they strive to dress inconspicuously, so that their appearance does not in any way detract from the dignity or the effectiveness of the message they bear. (2 Cor. 6:3, 4) In recent years in many lands a beard or long hair on a man attracts immediate notice and may, in the minds of the majority, classify such a person undesirably with extremists or as rebels against society. God's ministers want to avoid making any impression that would take attention away from their ministry or hinder anyone from listening to the truth. The Gestapo ordered all state-police precincts to search regional Witness groups and organizations. Due principally to this attitude as well as certain complex aspects of the Trinity doctrine itself, there has been a revival of anti-Trinitarian heresies during the past one hundred and fifty years, and they have gone largely unanswered. Prominent among those groups rejecting the historic doctrine of the Trinity are Mormonism, Christian Science, Unity, Spiritism, and Jehovah’s Witnesses — i.e., The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. According to Jehovah Witnesses, the Trinity is a satanic dogma of apostate Christianity that prevents people from knowing the true God, Jehovah.
