An electronic magazine containing articles and resources related to freemasonry.

May 18, 2004
Dear Brothers, Friends and Masonic Associates,
Allow me first to thank you all for your support, interest and contributions to the American Mason. Wor. Bro. Boracci would be happy to know of the depth of response and fraternal kinship that has been given to him and the American Mason at this troubled time.
We at Wamponamon Lodge #437 will keep this site active and up to date. We intend to continue Wor. Bro. Boracci's forays into the esoteric, historical and practical applications of Freemasonry. There will be some time delay as we come up to speed, collect material, edit the same and become journalists. We encourage you to stay tuned, contribute material and continue the search for more light.
This website was the brainchild and life of Wor. Bro. Boracci. He worked full time to make it worthy of being associated with the Craft. We can only step into his shoes, hope not to stumble and continue his dance with the love of his life. So Mote It Be.
In addition to the website, the Officer's and Brethren of Wamponamon Lodge, have begun work on the "Andrew Boracci Memorial Library of Masonic Research". This library will house the collections of Wor. Bro. Boracci's books, articles, photos, pamphlets and electronic media. We are accepting donations to the library in the nature of financial assistance and artifacts. We feel that Bro. Andy began the work and we should continue it for the benefit of the Fraternity. It will be housed in our Lodge, the Sage house of 1845 in Historic Sag Harbor, and be available for research and the enlightenmentt of our Brethren.

FREEMASONRY . The Masonic fraternity, brought to the American colonies in the mid-eighteenth century, was well established in all of the United States by 1820. Among the first Americans to migrate to Texas in the 1820s were a number of Masons, including Stephen F. Austin. qv Austin attempted to organize a Masonic lodge in 1828, when he and six other Masons met at San Felipe and petitioned the Grand York Lodge of Mexico for a charter dispensation. The petition evidently reached Mexico at the height of a quarrel between the "Yorkinos" and "Escoceses" (adherents of the Scottish Rite) and disappeared. A more successful effort occurred in the spring of 1835 when Dr. Anson Jones qv and five others, fearing Mexican reprisals, met secretly under the Masonic Oak near Brazoria and petitioned the Grand Lodge of Louisiana for a charter. The grand master of that state, John Henry Holland, qv issued the dispensation, and Holland Lodge No. 36 met for the first time on December 27, 1835, with Jones presiding as worshipful master. The Holland Lodge struggled for several months until overwhelmed during the Texas Revolution qv qv which destroyed all the lodge's records and equipment. Because of a scattering of the membership the brethren decided not to reopen the lodge at Brazoria. Instead, they opened it at Houston in October 1837. The Grand Lodge of Louisiana issued two additional charters to Texas lodges during this period: Milam No. 40 at Nacogdoches and McFarland No. 41 at San Augustine. In December 1837 delegates from these three lodges convened at Houston to organize the Grand Lodge of the Republic of Texas.

151. The Masonic Lodge And The Christian Conscience
Reprint of an article by John Weldon that first appeared in the Winter 1994 issue of the Christian Research Journal explaining why freemasonry is inconsistent with biblical teaching despite a decision by the 1993 Southern Baptist Convention to allow its members to join the Lodge.

STATEMENT DM-166
THE MASONIC LODGE AND THE CHRISTIAN CONSCIENCE
by John Weldon Summary
The Masonic Lodge in America is a highly influential organization claiming some four million members. Masonic leaders argue the lodge is not a religion but merely a fraternal body that seeks to better society and also assist the Christian church. It does this, they claim, by helping Christians become better members of their own faith.
The truth is that Masonry is a distinct religion that espouses teachings incompatible with Christian faith in the areas of God, salvation, and other important doctrines. It is therefore inconsistent for any Christian to swear the oaths of Masonry to uphold and support the Lodge when Masonry's own ritual, doctrines, and impact in history have denied and opposed biblical teaching.
This is so despite the 1993 recommendation of the Southern Baptists at their annual convention that membership in the Lodge can be left to the Christian's individual conscience. "Because of your support, the vote of the Southern Baptist Convention is a historic and positive turning point for Freemasonry. Basically, it is a vitalization of our Fraternity by America's largest Protestant denomination after nearly a year of thorough, scholarly study. At the same time, it is a call to renewed effort on the part of all Freemasons today to re-energize our Fraternity and move forward to fulfilling its mission as the world's foremost proponent of Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God." The Scottish Rite Journal

American CoMasonry is an ancient ritualistic fraternity which groups under its banner men and women, of every race, nationality, and religion.
http://www.co-masonry.org/
Freemasonry is an ancient fraternity which groups under its banners men of every race, of every nationality and of every religion. Wishing to do away with all cause for division and strife, Freemasons continually seek the means which will help all human beings to unite and become as one in the cause of the good of the whole. Masonic orders are divided into several rites which, though they may differ, spring from the same goal. That common goal is the reunion of Man with his Divine Source. American Co-Masonry is a Masonic order which works the Scottish Rite from the 1st through the 33rd Degree plus some Degrees of the York Rite. That which distinguishes the American Co-Masonic Order from other masonic workings is that, instead of admitting only men to its ranks, it admits women on an equal footing. It is sovereign and does not depend upon any foreign ruler ship or control. American Co-Masonry proclaims equal rights for both sexes and absolute freedom in the search for truth; the utmost tolerance is required of all members. It is organized as an unincorporated Fraternity. Its business affairs are handle by "The American Federation of Human Rights, Inc.", which is a Colorado non-profit corporation, with headquarters in Larkspur, Colorado.

BRITISH FREEMASONRY'S PLAN FOR AMERICA
HISTORY OF BRITISH FREEMASONRY The Knights Templars (c. 1100-1600) The precursors of the Freemasons are identified by authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail as the medieval Knights Templars: "By the eighteenth century various secret and semisecret confraternities were lauding the Templars as both precursors and mystical initiates. Many Freemasons of the period appropriated the Templars as their own antecedents. Certain Masonic 'rites' or 'observances' claimed direct lineal descent from the order as well as authorized custody of its arcane secrets." In his newly released volume, The Forgotten Monarchy of Scotland , Prince Michael Stewart of Albany also identifies the Knights Templars as the precursors of the Freemasons: "The Stewart kings, the Setons and the Sinclairs were all hereditary Knights Templars, and Scottish Rite Freemasonry was later created as a substructure of the organization." In 1118, the Order of the Temple was formed after the first Crusade in which Roman Catholic Church had seized the Holy Land. They were supported by Baudouin, the King of Jerusalem, whose brother, Godfroi de Boullion, had captured the city in 1099. The ostensible employment of the Knights Templars was the protection of pilgrims in the Holy Land. However, this religious-military order of warrior-monks and soldier-mystics, under the leadership of Grand Master, Hugues de Payen and patronage of St. Bernard, became a highly disciplined "militia of Christ" which blasphemously claimed to be Guardians of the Holy Grail, the

Freemasonry - History and Ritual
"When the authentic school [in the 18th C] came to examine the English records they could find no evidence at all of the existence of operative lodges. In medieval times the operatives' lodge had simple been a hut or lean-to on the site in which they stored their tools and took their refreshment and ease. By the 1600s the guild system, with the exception of the London Livery companies, was virtually moribund. Not was there any evidence of an English Mason word or of the English operatives having had secret modes of recognition....Accepted masonry simply seems to have appeared in England as a new organization without any prior connections with the operative craft."

http://www.oelodge.uklinux.net/freemasonry.htm
ABOUT FREEMASONRY Home Page The Formal Answer Whenever we are asked “What is Freemasonry”, the formal answer includes much of the following:- “Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest secular fraternal societies. The essential qualification for admission is a belief in a Supreme Being and to be of good repute. Freemasonry is open to men of many religions and it expects them to continue to follow their own faith. Freemasonry is a system of morality, not a system of faith or salvation and is complimentary to the belief of the individual. Indeed, lodge meetings, in order to ensure harmony, expressly forbid the discussion of either religion or politics. Freemasonry asks that each of its members shows tolerance and respect for the opinions of others and behave with kindness and understanding to his fellow man. Its members, in varying degrees, are involved with numerous local, national and international charitable works, both by charitable giving and by voluntary efforts and works as individuals. Freemasonry demands from its members a respect for the law of the country in which a man works and lives. Freemasonry does not override the individual’s duty to one’s self, one’s family one’s God or work. Masonic meetings have a set structure and consistent content and although their organisation and ceremonies have been shrouded in secrecy in the past, are now largely open to public scrutiny one way or another – United Grand Lodge of England even hires PR consultants these days to help get their message across fairly. Whilst Masonic lodges are private, their member are happy to talk about any virtually any aspect of Freemasonry, except their modes of recognition.
