One of my former 'zoo assignments' is now in third grade where my wife had him as a substitute last week. He was a classic, Braxton will be a joy to be with! A few years ago the parents/Dads found the trip home from the zoo to be some kind of highlight as a certain Grace VP actually raced me to the church on US 30 (35 miles). He won only by cutting through the Grace campus and running a stop sign (this is my version...his is much funnier though I thought I could hear his daughter crying, "Daddy, please slow down...Daddy, Daddy!"). They had to close off the Grace campus and reroute traffic just to avoid this kind of thing."

Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches
The Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches is a theologically conservative fellowship of Brethren churches descended from the Schwarzenau Brethren movement of Alexander Mack of Germany The Brethren (at the time called German Baptist Brethren ) suffered a three way division early in the , and the more progressive group organized the Brethren Church . They maintained the standard Brethren doctrines, but wanted to adopt new methods, and desired more congregational autonomy and less centralization. These more progressive Brethren moved into the mainstream of Christian evangelicalism in America. Several events in the late 19th century and early 20th century , including the Bible Conference movement, emphasis on foreign missions, and the rise of fundamentalism, had an impact on the church. The Foreign Missionary Society of the Brethren Church was formed on September 4 in Winona Lake, Indiana . But, also in the early , two different viewpoints began to emerge. One issue was that the "fundamentalists" wanted to convert Ashland College into a Bible college, while the "traditionalists" wanted it to remain an accredited liberal arts college. With the dismissal of Alva J. McClain and Herman Hoyt from the new seminary at Ashland College, the tensions began to erupt. The dissident group formed the Grace Theological Seminary in . This brought to surface the differences, and the denomination divided into two almost evenly numbered bodies. In

The Schwarzenau Brethren was founded in by Alexander Mack (1679-1735) of Schwarzenau, Germany, and seven of his followers. They believed that both the Lutheran and Reformed churches were taking liberties with the literal teachings of the Scriptures, and rejected infant baptism. The Brethren were compelled by persecution to take refuge in Holland . In Peter Becker brought a group to Pennsylvania . In 1720 forty Brethren families settled in Surhuisterveen in West Friesland. They settled among the Mennonites and remained there until , when all but a handful emigrated to America. The first American congregation was organized at

19. What Does It Mean To Be "Grace Brethren"? (Heritage)
Ultimately, in 1939 there was a division and the National Fellowship of BrethrenChurches (later renamed the fellowship of grace brethren churches) was formed.
http://www.peninsulagrace.org/gracebrethren/starthere/heritage_plaster.htm
What is a Grace Brethren Church?
The Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches moves into the 21st Century on a solid three-point foundation of Biblical Truth, Biblical Relationship and Biblical Mission (see Tom Julien on What does it mean to be Grace Brethren ). Evidence for this foundation is found not only in the movement's present character but also in its history. Below, Dr. Dave Plaster, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Grace College and Seminary , gives a brief history of the FGBC that helps us understand… What Does it Mean to be "Grace Brethren"?
THE “DNA” OF THE FGBC
Dave Plaster
What does it mean to be Grace Brethren? You could answer that question from a doctrinal or an organizational point of view but one often neglected aspect of being Grace Brethren involves an inheritance. The Grace Brethren are heirs of a rich past which has impacted and molded our movement into what it is today. The story begins with the Pietists. These German Christians reacted against the dead orthodoxy that had taken over the great Reformation churches. Pastors had only to sign the right creed to serve. Theologians viciously wrangled over words. Membership in the parish church was enough to say that you were a Christian. The Pietists proclaimed that Christianity was a faith to be lived and experienced. They rejected creeds as the products of men elevated over the Bible. They wanted preaching that applied the Scriptures to life issues. The Pietists did not want to create a new denomination but hoped to reform the dead state churches.
