Home Link s Webrings T he earliest word for these spiritual entities is the noun 'Fae' which is Old French. 'Fae-rie' is the later French word to describe enchantment, glamoury and illusion. It is this word that has it`s links to the Pagan Fae-ry Tradition. The term 'Fairy' is a modern word used to describe make believe creatures like tinkerbell and the tooth fairy.
There are many references to the origins of the Fae and what they are. Almost all cultures have a word and a description for faery, from the Abatwa of south Africa, to the Banshee(bean si) of Ireland, the Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian Elves, the Daoine Sidhe of the Highlands, the Tuatha de Danann of Ireland, the Tylwyth Teg of Wales, the Seelie Court and the Unseelie Court, the Wee Folk and Good Neighbors to the Hawaiian Menihuni, to mermaids, Hob Goblins, Mab the Queen, the Elementals, the Trows of Scandanavia, to the Yakshas of the Himalayas. Basically, the theme is that the Fae world is a spiritual world with many kinds of spirit fae and with many cultures. It is another dimension parallel to ours and in some way they are linked to humans and maybe even dependent on physical humans for their spiritual existance.

C oven of C ythrawl faery Wicca Also referred to as the fae, fey, feri, faerie, fairy, and fairie tradition. Founded by Victor and Cora Anderson in the mid-late 1950’s, when they were inspired to form their own tradition after reading a book by Gerald B. Gardner Witchcraft Today” Anderson was responsible for writing most of the tradition’s rituals, which he initially based on fairy folklore and beliefs, he is still universally recognized as the Grand Master of the Faery Tradition. In 1959, Victor initiated the late Gwydion Pendderwen, who then aged 13, would later become a leading voice in the Faery Tradition. An old African priestess initiated Victor Anderson into Witchcraft in 1926, they practiced a form of Witchcraft with Huna and African influences, and which was primarily Dahomean-Haitian. Anderson is now one of the last genuine Kahuna. Some of these earlier influences he incorporated into the new Faery tradition. Pendderwen after visiting with an Alex Sanders coven in England, incorporated material from the Alexandrian Book of Shadows Today the tradition has evolved and contains of a mixture of Green Wicca, Celtic and Druidic practices, as well as modern Witchcraft.

Ecstasy and Transgression
in the Faery Tradition
By Cholla and Gabriel C: It is often said that Feri is an ecstatic tradition, as opposed to a ceremonial tradition of magic or paganism. But do we ever really consider what that means, and if this statement is actually true in our practice of Feri? This article is the first in a series exploring ecstasy as a spiritual path of the Feri Witch, and will explore many of the different paths of ecstasy that we may have come to overlook as modern witches. What is ecstasy? G: Ecstasy is the result of the transpersonal, the divine, temporarily (or permanently) infusing the personal. Ecstasy is surrender. The Talking Self gives up control, structure, expectations, and its network of preference and aversion. We have in that moment our own experience stripped of analysis and fear, suffused with the power of the divine, the radiance and awareness of Ether as pure consciousness. In those moments we experience the world as it really is, not as we think it is, or think it ought to be. Another way of explaining Ecstasy is in terms of brain waves; our normal mindset is reflected in what are normally called alpha waves. An elevated mindset, marked by deep relaxation and internal quiet, such s we often reach on ritual, meditation, sex, or listening to music, is called beta state, and is marked by a measurable shift in brain wave frequencies. In many cultures beta state is the normal one, and alpha stage is triggered only by the fight or flight response. Alpha state is something that comes up in a crisis, when it is useful. In our culture alpha stage is the straightjacket that keeps us plodding on like so many worker ants while we ravage both our beautiful planet and our own lives, dreams and possibilities, selling ourselves into bondage in the belly of the beast.

The Helper Cards also have names from Irish Mythology. The suits are Domhan (earth), Aer (air), Tine (fire), and Uisce (water). The inner border of each Minor Arcana card is color coded by suit. The Minor Arcana illustrate the story line for each suit with the suit symbols dominating each scene. The accompanying book is 400+ pages long. It needs to be that long because this is a "theme deck," with the theme being Faery Wicca. If one is not already familiar with Ms. Stepanich’s Faery Tradition, one has a lot of learning to do. The mythology is quite involved, with the majority of the names of people, places and ideas rendered in Gaelic. Since many of the concepts upon which the deck is based predate Tarot, Golden Dawn and other, more recent traditions are used to fill in the gaps where needed. An example is the astrological correspondences. The book begins with some basic background information on the Irish mythology used. Descriptions of the four suits and some spreads designed as study aids are also provided in the beginning of the book. Part One of the book also covers the Minor Arcana. A black and white picture of each card is provided. The name of the card and a short verse are given. The information provided consists of:

Traditions Religion is first broken down into types of belief: Polytheists: Belief in more than one God, many Gods. Worship of both God and Goddess, regarding self as Priestess or Priest of the Earth Mother. The rituals mark seasonal turnings. They plant crops by the phases of the moon, herbal remedies to heal. "The Body is Thy Temple". Animism: A reality that all things are imbued with vitality. From rocks and trees to dreams. Partaking in the life force. Belief that all forms of organic life have their origin in the soul; that all natural objects have a soul. Pantheism: Doctrine that identifies God with the Universe, everything being considered as part of or manifestation of him. Where a craft Priestess becomes Goddess within a ritual circle. "Thou art Goddess". Monotheism: One God, one way, one faith and one belief. Atheist disbelief in the existantance of God. Because there are new Traditions being created every day, I cannot possibly name them all. I just ran into one the other night that is only 10 years old. I am only listing out now some of the Wiccan/Pagan and Craft religious traditions, I will not attempt to go into world-wide religion and all of its different branches. If you know of one that should be listed here, please feel free to email me. You can also find some traditional links at Rosebud's Garden Gardnerian
England Founder Gerald B Gardner, 1950's. This is considered the first modern denomination of the Craft. He is said to be the grandfather of Wicca. This tradition places more emphasis in the Goddess. Having a system of degrees, and does not accept self-initiation. They work skyclad and try to keep equal numbers of males and females within the covens. You will have to also take into consideration Gardner corresponded with Crowley.

- The Tain Bo Cuailgne, 4th Century Based on ancient Ireland, Eire, Gods of the Tuatha De Danann. Came to be oral Faery Tradition; it was also esoteric-christian, which flourished before the crusades. Norse Mythology relate how the maggots emerging from the corpse of the giant Ymir transformed themselves into the Light Elves and the Dark Elves. The Icelandic version, know as Huldre Folk in the Scandinavian countries, states that Lilith (Lilu?) was washing her children when God spoke to her. In her fear she hid the children that had not been washed yet. When God had asked if these were all her children, she replied, yes. He then declared that those she had hidden from him would be hidden from man. On another note here, Lullabies were sang to babies so that Lilu would not hear them cry, as it was lore she would take them to replace her own children she lost daily. In Devon, pixies are to be the souls of unbaptised children. That faeries were the heathen dead, not good enough for heaven, but not bad enough for hell.

From Ireland comes a very old manuscript called L ebor Gabála Érenn (The Book of the Taking of Ireland), which might be considered the first recordings of the oral Faery Tradition; for we read within its pages of the ancient gods and goddesses of pre-Celtic, Celtic, pre-Christian, as well as Christian Ireland. We are provided with tales that are considered both mythological and historical. We read of the pedigrees of the Shining Ones, the Tuatha De Danann , and learn from where they originated. We are given accounts of their druidry, knowledge, science, prophecy and magic. We read they ‘were expert in the arts of pagan cunning’. In the pages of this five-volume set we are shown a glimpse of the remnants of the Irish cosmology, their creation myth, and the beginning of the Shining Ones now obscurely veiled behind a fantasy term: fairy. Over the centuries the Shining Ones have left behind a plethora of tales, first recited as the folk-tale of Ireland, and later told as the fairy-tale world-wide. Their traditional ways survived in folk-memory, becoming the "superstitions" of Ireland. And up to modern times, there isn’t an Irish country dweller who doesn’t believe in the Faery , and perform some superstitious act at least once or twice a year. From these come the modern folk practices known as the
