Government, NGOs, Corporate Sectors - Ethical Culture in Malaysia May 15, 2004 We explore just how effective has the Abdullah Badawi administration been in combating corruption in Malaysia. Government, Non-government and the Corporate Sectors, they all have an important role to play in creating an ethical culture. And touching on this during a recent public lecture* here in Singapore was Tunku Abdul Aziz, who founded, with the support of like-minded individuals, the Malaysian Chapter of Transparency International, the global coalition against corruption. Known in Malaysia as the Kuala Lumpur Society for Transparency and Integrity, the organization under the leadership of Tunku Aziz, has over the years raised awareness on corruption and integrity issues. Corruption is an important issue for companies and governments throughout the region. Malaysia in particular has witnessed steps to address this issue ever since Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi took over running of the country. Under the Abdullah Badawi administration, there are now several on-going investigations of both politicians and private sector businessmen. This of course has implications for the government and corporate sectors, and for those dealing with Malaysia.
