The Science of Enlightenment
Title: THE SCIENCE OF ENLIGHTENMENT by Nitin Trasi, ISBN 81-246-0130-5 Pub: D.K.Printworld (P) Ltd., Sri Kunj, F-52, Bali Nagar, New Delhi, 110015, Tel: (011) 545 3975, 546 6019 Fax: (011) 546 5926 Email: dkprintworld@vsnl.net Cover Price: Rs. 400
Selected by the Department of Education, Government of India for distribution as a reference book to 100 university libraries all over India. Summary In Chapter 2, psychological suffering is shown to be related to this idea of being a separate entity. This idea leads to unnecessary conditioning, which in turn leads to unnecessary thinking, and avoidable (psychological) suffering. The Enlight-ened person, on the other hand, undergoes a process of decondi-tioning leading eventually to his Liberation (from unnecessary suffering). Chapter 3 : The idea of Liberation is dangled before the eyes of the common man by most religions as a sort of a panacea for all the ills of this world, and he is encouraged to pursue it as a goal. Thus begins the seeking of Enlightenment by the person. for `himself' as an entity. As Enlightenment is, in fact, the realization that he is NOT a separate entity, these very efforts thus become self-defeating, for such me-based efforts inevitably reinforce and perpetuate the illusion of the `me.' This is the paradox of spiritual effort. Common spiritual terminology is discussed from a scientific perspective. Chapter 4 : Enlightenment is defined as the intuitive under-standing that one is not a separate entity. The characteristics of Enlightenment are discussed, and its psychological, physiolog-ical and anatomic aspects.

128. Historical Background
The age of enlightenment can be situated between the death of Louis XIV, in 1715, and the coup d état of the 18th Brumaire (9th November) 1799, when the

took power. The intervening period may be divided into several stages: first the Regency (1715-1723), followed by the reigns of Louis XV (1723-1774) and Louis XVI (1774-1791), and finally the French Revolution In the domain of the arts, the ageing Louis XIV hoped to see "childhood instilled in everything." Under the Regency, this trend of light-heartedness became more pronounced and was to flourish during the reign of Louis XV. The widespread taste for elegance, comfort and beautiful objects even infiltrated the ranks of the bourgeoisie . But, in the second half of the century, the philosophers reacted against society's libertine tendencies, with which they associated the rocaille style. They advocated a return to the virtues of Ancient and Republican Rome , the majority of which would be adopted as the revolutionary ideal.

This has made it lean, fast and efficient for the task it does. It has been successfully compiled and run on Linux, Solaris, and Digital platforms. This window manager makes heavy use of the Shape extension and pixmaps, although because of its complete rewrite it is now fairly usable on lower end systems. It is currently in a development release stage where usable distributions are downloadable from the official Enlightenment site . We are living in a new time. As many of you know there is an exciting change underway, a change of spiritual enlightenment. We can all feel something as time speeds up and our lives fly by us more quickly than ever. We are all asking ourselves questions that we never thought to ask before. Newpath is here to help answer those questions, and to help unite all of us, for in unity we will be fully aware. It is time for us to come forward and heal ourselves, and then heal the person next to you, so that we can all walk into the new awareness together. No matter what religion you may follow this site is meant to offer help with loving, pure intentions. Some call it a spiritual revolution, the time to wake up and begin the life you really came here to live, is now.
MEDITATION The main focus at Newpath is on meditation. With meditation we are able to focus on what we need to work on and bring about a change in our lives that we can really notice. It helps to unearth buried long ago pain that you may or may not even be aware of. It can help you shed light on a problematic situation. Meditation can help you learn about yourself, your life purpose, other people, the way of the world, answers and guidance to all of your troubles. Meditation is the first step to living a spiritual life, it is essential and it is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.

Nietzsche as Critic and Captive of Enlightenment
Doctoral Dissertation University of California, Irvine
Note: This online version of my dissertation contains no italics, as I have not had time to mark up the entire work in HTML. I ask the reader to forgive the resulting inaccuracies in quotation; all quotes are exact, apart from the lack of emphasis. Introduction: Nietzsche as Critic and Captive of Enlightenment This attempt to overcome Enlightenment, however, has a history that begins well before our century, and one of the most important episodes in this history is to be found in the nineteenth century with Friedrich Nietzsche. Before postmodernism and poststructuralism, Nietzsche provided a virulent and comprehensive critique of the Enlightenment. The attack on Enlightenment is a thread that runs through his entire corpus. An examination of his work makes it clear, however, that Nietzsche was unable to overcome this pervasive, intractable tradition. Despite his best efforts, Nietzsche's work contains persistent elements of Enlightenment. Human rationality also implies for Enlightened thinkers an attempt to gain knowledge and understanding of the natural world. As Norman Hampson writes, "human reason, operating by means of careful observation and checking its conclusions by further observation or experiment, could for the first time in the history of man reveal the mechanism of the natural world in which he had lived for so long like a fearful and wondering child."6 In many ways, the extreme rationalism of Descartes, its traditional alternative, empiricism, and the debate between them constitute the part of the Enlightenment which had the greatest influence in the nineteenth century. Darwin owed much of his faith in science and scientific progress to his Enlightened forebears, and Spencer's Enlightened politics acquired their distinctive character only when he added to them a very Enlightened kind of science.

Quado - And so, yes, this is a very important question. It is vitally important that you learn to love yourself, for you cannot love anyone else if you do not love yourself first. All love must flow through you and then out to others. All respect must begin with a deep respect for yourself and then reach out to others. All tolerance and forgiveness must begin with a deep tolerance for your own errors and mistakes, a deep forgiveness and acceptance of yourself as you are, and then you can reach out to others.
