Brethren, we would like to stimulate your thinking processes by having you consider a series of questions on the headcoverings of Sisters. QUESTION #1: If only the Memorial Service is under consideration here, then why does Paul exhort the brethren in Corinth to "remember me in ALL things, and keep the ORDINANCES (plural), as I delivered them to you."? Isn't this an all encompassing command? Is any area excluded? It would certainly appear to us that Paul is giving an absolute because of the language. Furthermore, he has not provided any exceptions or limitations. QUESTION #2: If only the Memorial Service is under consideration, then why does Paul's instruction concerning a sister wearing a headcovering state, "But every woman that PRAYETH or PROPHESIETH with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head."? Since a sister is commanded to remain silent in the ecclesia (I Cor. 14:34-35; I Tim. 2:11-12), then this command must be for all occasions outside of ecclesial gatherings as well. QUESTION #3: Does a man only pray or prophesy at the Memorial meeting?

The Christadelphian Instructor 1. What is the meaning of "Christadelphian"?
  • Answer: It means brother or relative of Christ. It is the name of Christ and the Greek word for Brother put into one.
2. Who is a brother or relative of Christ?
  • Answer: He who performs the will of God. Proofs
3. What is the will of God that we should do?
  • Answer: That we believe in His Son Jesus Christ and keep His commandments. Proofs
4. Who is it that has given the name "Christ's Brethren" to those who do the will of God?
  • Answer: It is Christ himself who has done so. Proofs
5. Why are the brethren of Christ called Christadelphians in our day instead of Christian?
  • Answer: Because multitudes are called Christian who do not believe the truth concerning Christ or obey his commandments. It has become, in fact, the name for a system of fable, and error that has risen up in the world in the place of truth, in fulfillment of the predictions of the apostles. Therefore, to be known as a "Christian" is not to be known as a believer of the truth. Proofs

In Search of "The Blasphemers" IN 1982 The Christadelphian published "Salute to our Russian Brethren", in which Brother Alan Eyre recounted some of the experiences of our ecclesias in the Ukraine during the Stalin era. In Brethren in Christ, also published in 1982, in Chapter 8, "Eastward into Russia", he described the encouraging expansion of the Brethren into the Ukraine in the early 17th century and the persecution this provoked at the hands of the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches. In July 1992, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and as Christadelphian witness again moves swiftly into Slavic lands, Alan Eyre and Victor Sluczewski made a 2,000 kilometre journey through the Ukraine in search of "the blasphemers", as those of our persuasion were stigmatized. Here is the story of a heart-stirring experience, and a powerful exhortation. and hungry. Suddenly, from being officially described as "a vile book", the Bible has become a best seller in the very lands where, for as long as anyone can remember, it was banned and where the slave labour camp, or worse, awaited those who possessed or tried to distribute it. Indeed, we have come across instances where a consignment of Bibles has been deliberately given preference by the authorities over needed material import needs.

Christ is coming! - Bible teaching about his return
It was once fashionable in religious circles to say that Jesus Christ would never return to the earth. There are still plenty of professing Christians who believe that. But there are now many others who have come to believe that the Second Coming is a very important event. Christadelphians have always taught that the Return of Jesus Christ to the earth is vital to the fulfilment of the purpose of God. This booklet reviews Bible teaching about the Second Coming, both the events that will lead up to that miracle and the reason for the Lord's Return. Back to contents
    New Testament Teaching
Someone has counted the New Testament references to this great event, and they number 318 occurrences! If you reflect that the number of times the word for Christian love occurs is only 115, you will begin to see the importance of this topic. Nor is it simply the case that only one or two New Testament writers refer to the matter in their writings. Treatment of the subject is widely spread. Jesus spoke often about the Kingdom of God and his Second Coming. His parables, for example, were told to those who thought the Kingdom of God was to appear immediately. He was like a nobleman who had to go into a far country to receive for himself a Kingdom

A GROUP OF PEOPLE SIMILAR TO THE EARLY CHRISTIANS
The Christadelphians Down through the centuries of time, alongside the mainstream of Christendom, there have always been other small groups who could not for conscience sake be part of the majority. Marked by their strict adherence to the Word of God, these groups were made up of common people who made few ripples on the political scene. The Donatists, Waldenses, Paulicans and Hugenots were some of the more prominent groups that history texts may have passed by, had it not been for the hatred and contempt shown toward them by those with power and authority. These people chose to live quiet and peaceable lives with the Bible as the focal point, but they didn't conform to the traditional line and so were condemned as heretics and suffered banishment, massacre and torture. Today, a group of people with similar markings is the Christadelphians. Bertrand Russel, a noted English philosopher in his book, Power, A New Social Analysis, wrote on page 109, "Christianity was in its earliest days, entirely unpolitical. The best representatives in our time are the Christadelphians..." If the Church had the political power today that it had during the times of the above-mentioned groups, the plight of the Christadelphians would be identical.

The Christadelphians Christian sect was founded in the United States in 1848 by John Thomas
They are a people united by a common belief in the original Christian Gospel. Christadelphians have come to know the love of God in Christ through his Gospel. They seek, in response, to “live in obedience to our God,” to emulate His love in their lives, and to look fervently for His Son's return to this earth and “the restoration of all things.” The name “Christadelphian” means "Brethren in Christ". To emphasize that they are a community, rather than a place where people meet, they call their local organizations, “ecclesias.” Based on:

Your share in God's promises - Bible teaching on "The hope of Israel"
We talk about hope in everyday conversation. We say "I hope you feel better soon", or "We hope to go abroad this year" or "I hope the strike will be over by next week". We mean there is something in the future we should very much like to happen, and we feel cautiously optimistic that it will. Life without hope would be very grim. Even in the worst of circumstances, people like to look on the bright side. A poet wrote: "Hope springs eternal in the human breast." Hope can give men extraordinary tenacity of spirit - miners trapped by a roof fall, or sailors drifting on a raft, will often fight death for days, convinced that their friends will come to the rescue before it is too late. Sadly, of course, they are sometimes disappointed. It can happen that the rock fall is too deep to tunnel through, or no-one knows the ship has foundered. In this case the chance to which they cling does not exist, and their hope is an illusion. Back to contents
      Hope with a Foundation
Hope is a topic that crops up frequently in the Bible. Both in the Old Testament and the New, the writers are full of optimism. They look about them on a dreary and unjust world where so frequently suffering comes upon the innocent and evil men triumph, yet they have tremendous confidence that one day God the Creator is going to turn the tables the right way up. Not only that, but they seem to be convinced that they themselves will have a share in the improvements that will come. Listen to the Psalmist, for example: "Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like thee? Thou who hast made me see many sore troubles wilt revive me again; from the depths of the earth thou wilt bring me up again. . . I will sing praises to thee with the Iyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips shall shout for joy, when I sing praises to thee" (Psalm 71:19-23). There is no doubt about this man's confidence in the future.

    Getting to know God
Where is the Basis God's Self-Revelation God is Eternal The Greatness of God ... Our God is Real
    WHAT THE BIBLE REVEALS
FROM time to time surveys are undertaken asking people whether they believe in God. Surprisingly about 60% usually say they do, though only about 10% of them go regularly to a place of worship. But if the survey goes further, and asks these professed believers in God what they believe about Him, an almost incredible vagueness emerges. Their general view of God reflects their view of themselves. Most people are inclined to be indulgent towards their own failings and they think of God as necessarily being the same. "I like to think of God", they say, "as infinitely kind, always forgiving and never condemning anyone, even wrongdoers. Others will say, "Well, if God exists, and I do what I think is right, I shall get whatever reward there is." Since in part of the Western world all religions are now regarded as equally true anyway, any approach to God is as good as any other. The fact is that modern man is largely pagan. He has lost any sense of the authority of God, because he has lost any basis for belief. Left to his own imaginings, he lacks all conviction; he is confused and indifferent.
