It is the bounden duty of every Christian to pray against Antichrist, and as to what Antichrist is no sane man ought to raise a question. If it be not the Popery in the Church of Rome there is nothing in the world that can be called by that name. It wounds Christ, robs Christ of His glory, puts sacramental efficacy in the place of His atonement, and lifts a piece of bread in the place of the Saviour....If we pray against it, because it is against Him, we shall love the persons though we hate their errors ; we shall love their souls , though we loathe and detest their dogmas ...."

English martyr, d. 27 Feb., 1601. She was the daughter of William Heigham of Dunmow, Essex, a gentleman of means and an ardent Calvinist Roger Filcock had long been Mrs. Line's friend and frequently her confessor. Entering the English College at Reims in 1588, he was sent with the others in 1590 to colonize the seminary of St. Albans at Valladolid, and, after completing his course there, was ordained and sent on the English mission. Father Garnett kept him on probation for two years to try his mettle before admitting him to the Society of Jesus , and finding him zealous and brave, finally allowed him to enter. He was just about to cross to the Continent for his novitiate when he was arrested on suspicion of being a priest and executed after a travesty of a trial. You think we’ve gone over the edge in profiling another Christian denomination as a cult. You’re about ready to chuck your modem out the window, and the only reason you’ve read this far is out of a morbid curiosity. Well, let me take a moment to address your concerns. I will grant you that the Catholic Church shares a large number of Biblical beliefs with evangelical Christianity: the inerrancy of the Bible, the Trinitarian nature of God, the virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ, as well as His crucifixion and resurrection. In fact, we have no doubt that there are a number of born-again Christians within the Catholic Church. These Christians properly understand the biblical doctrine of salvation, and have developed a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. However, many of the

Before the Spanish colonial rule, the old Bigan had been long traded with the "Sanglay" Chinese traders for it's nice port. Ships from Macau and India also traded in Ilocos. Vigan is known for its Spanish-style brick houses and religious Mecca in North Luzon. The town was founded by Juan Salcedo, grandson of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi who founded the city of Manila. Conquistador Salcedo went to the Ilocos and established a military settlement in Vigan on June 13, 1572, which two years later, he named Villa Fernandina . When Salcedo set up Villa Fernandina near the old settlement of Vigan, he erected a small wooden chapel along the Mestizo river and later the Villa joined Vigan and grew fast as an economic, ecclesiastical and political center. An old map (1753) indicates that Vigan itself is an island and had an important strategic military value at that time. Later established into a poblacion and into Ciudad Fernandina in honor of Prince Ferdinand, first born son of King Philip II of

Anglo - Catholicism
Advanced Information Anglo-Catholicism is the modern name for that tradition within Anglicanism that was previously termed "High Church." The name dates only from 1838 and occurred during the Tractarian or Oxford Movement. Edward Pusey, John Keble, and John Henry Newman were the leaders of this transition from the older high churchmanship with its emphasis on the established Erastian church - state relationship to an emphasis upon the distinctive claims of the church's authority in apostolic succession of bishops. Earlier High Churchmen had tended to dismiss the claims of Free Church bodies on the ground that they were not a part of the Church of England, duly constituted by law. The Anglo Catholics sensed a real threat to the church rather than a help in this relationship with an increasingly secular state. Instead they insisted that the church's authenticity lay in the essential nature of the episcopacy (Tract , 1833). Ordination by bishops was thus seen to be of the esse of the church without which a church is not a church. At the same time less appreciation was given to the principles of the Anglican Reformation, and the movement became suspect in the eyes of many because of the large number of conversions to Rome out of Anglo Catholicism, especially that of John Henry Newman.

Roman Catholic Church, Catholicism
General Information The Roman Catholic church, the largest of the Christian churches, although present in all parts of the world, is identified as Roman because of its historical roots in Rome and because of the importance it attaches to the worldwide ministry of the bishop of Rome, the pope. Several Eastern Rite Churches , whose roots are in regional churches of the Eastern Mediterranean, are in full communion with the Roman Catholic church. In 1980 there were some 783 million Roman Catholics, approximately 18% of the world's population. The 51 million Roman Catholics in the United States (1982) constitute 22% of that country's population. These statistics are based on baptisms, usually conferred on infants, and do not necessarily imply active participation in the church's life nor full assent to its beliefs. A growing estrangement between the Catholic church in the West and the Orthodox church of the East in the first millennium led to a break between them in the 11th century, and the two regions diverged in matters of theology, liturgy, and disciplinary practices. Within Western Christianity beginning with the 16th - century Reformation, the Roman Catholic church came to be identified by its differences with the Protestant churches.

CONSUBSI'ANTIATION , the Lutheran doctrine, half-way to transubstantiation, rejected by the Swiss reformer, Zwingle, that the actual body and blood of the Lord co-exist with the bread and the wine at the Lord's Supper. DULIA , worship given to saints and angels, secondary to Latria.

Lights
Upon the subject of the liturgical use of lights, as an adjunct of the services of the Church, something has already been said under such headings as ALTAR (IN LITURGY), sub-title Altar-Candles; BENEDICTION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT; CANDLES; CANDLESTICKS; LAMPS AND LAMPADARII. The present article will be concerned only with the more general aspect of the question, and in particular with the charge so often levelled against Catholicism of adopting wholesale the ceremonial practices of the pagan world. How far the use of lights in the daytime as an adjunct of the Liturgy can be traced back to the second or third century A. D. is not quite easy to decide. On the one hand, there seems to be some evidence that the Christians themselves repudiated the practice. Although Tertullian ("Apol.", xlvi and xxxv; "De Idololat.", xv) does not make any direct reference to the use of lights in religious worship, still he speaks in strong terms of the uselessness of burning lamps in the daytime as an act of piety towards the emperors. This would be somewhat inconsistent, if the Christians themselves had been open to the same reproach. Moreover, several of the Fathers of the fourth century might seem to be more explicit in their condemnation of a display of lamps. For example, about the year 303, Lactantius writes: "They [the pagans] burn lights as to one dwelling in darkness. . . Is he to be thought in his right mind who offers for a gift the light of candles and wax tapers to the author and giver of light? . . . But their

The Catholic Church in Russia auf Deutsch
For centuries Russia has been in contact with Catholicism. Individual Catholics came to Russia as traders or diplomats. Larger groups of Catholics migrated from Russia and Poland or were deported from the Western parts of the Soviet Union, which were traditionally Catholic, to other parts which were traditionally Orthodox or Muslim. As this site develops it is hoped that a clear picture of the Catholic Church in Russia might be provided. Its history, its present and its future, its people and its connections with Russia, Russian culture and Orthodoxy all remain areas of special interest. This site would like to make a recommendation : that you become aquainted with a typical Catholic Parish in Russia. The parish of Syzran is an average sized parish in provincial Russia. Its story and the tales that its parishoners have to tell, represent what it means to be a Latin Rite Catholic in the Russia of today. How did the parish begin, who are the parishoners, how has it grown, what difficulties does it face and what does the future hold for it? The answers to these questions tell a typical story of Catholics in Russia. Also from the Syzran Home Page links to other parishes in Russia will be made. The parish of Syzran also attempts to enter the cyber age.

155. Catholicism In The Ukraine: Unresolved Problems
Proposals for resolving the tensions with respect to Greek catholicism, that exist between Orthodoxy and catholicism. catholicism in the Ukraine
http://www.catholic-church.org/church-unity/gk_cat_e.htm
Catholicism in the Ukraine: Unresolved problems Over 400 years ago Orthodox Christians of the present day western Ukraine broke away from the Orthodox Church and entered into union with Rome. Although they kept their religious traditions and rites they were not totally free from forces of latinization in the various aspects of their ecclesial life. Today, the place of the Greek Catholic Church in the Western Ukraine within Christianity is a topic of dispute and confusion. The Greek Catholic Church is an obstacle in Catholic-Orthodox relations. To overcome this obstacle it is necessary to examine various areas, the historical, the theological and then possibilities for the future. In the study it is deemed essential not to lose sight of the fact that each Church, now and historically, is made up of people, of souls, with their own ways of thinking, their rights and their identity.  Historical Tensions  Since the councils of Brest and Uzhgorod the relation between Russian Orthodoxy and the Greek Catholics of Western Ukraine, as well as with the Church of Rome, have been tense and unfriendly. In order to promote a policy of friendship and forgiveness and Christian peace between these Churches, among these Christians it is certainly necessary to reread history in an open and unprejudiced way.  Elements of history that ought to be reexamined are certainly many and complex. Firstly, it is essential to examine the cultural, national and political forces that were at play in the Western Ukraine in the pre-Brest-union decades. What was the status of these areas and these peoples with relation to the rest of Russia during the times of Tartar domination and in the times afterwards. Was there already a political or cultural rift growing between Moscow or the Greater Russia and this part of the Little Russia.

Washington, DC, Apr. 19 (UPI) There are between 25 and 30 million Catholic voters in the United States, most of whom favored the Democrats. But today about 40 percent are independents. And they make up a big chunk in swing states such as Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin states the presumptive Democrat candidate John Kerry must win if he wants to make it to the White House. But would the majority of those Catholics support a candidate with a pro-abortion rights voting record? Would they elect a man said to be in violation of the Vatican's doctrinal note on the participation of Catholics in political life? That note, issued in January 2003, informs lawmakers of their "grave and clear obligation to oppose any law that attacks human life. For them, as for every Catholic, it is impossible to promote such laws or vote for them." Kerry is after Al Smith and John F. Kennedy only the third Catholic to run as presidential candidate for a major party in the United States. Smith lost primarily because of his opposition to Prohibition, but the 1928 campaign was also marred by anti-Catholic rhetoric.

Scripture overrules tradition

2 Peter 1:19 (KJV) We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Prior to this verse, Peter is relating his own personal experiences. He then proceeds to tell us that the scriptures are more sure than even his words, the words of an apostle of Jesus Christ. Tradition is not on the same level nor is it above what is taught in the scriptures. The Bible rules.
