THE CUTTING EDGE
This is David Bay, Director of Old Paths Ministries. And this is the Cutting Edge , a radio program dedicated to warning and informing God's people. We are committed to the study and exposition of the inerrant, inspired and authoritative Word of God. The views expressed belong to us, and are not necessarily shared by this station. The moral bankruptcy of our society is well-documented. But, few people understand why we have become morally bankrupt. However, when we look at society through the Biblical eyes of God, we can easily see why we are facing the unprecedented troubles of today. This study of America through the eyes of God is what we will always try to do here; stay with us for some eye-opening truths. And the United States of America has the world's tallest and largest obelisk the Washington Monument. Every President from George Washington to Jimmy Carter took their oaths of office from the East side of the Capitol Building; however, on January 20, 1981, President Reagan insisted that the Inauguration Ceremony take place from the West side of the Capitol. A quick look at a map of Washington, D.C., shows that, when President Reagan addressed the crowd to give his Inaugural speech, he was facing that great obelisk, the Washington Monument. Occultists the world over clearly knew the significance. They knew that the occultic plan to produce Anti-Christ was nearing its completion; they knew that Reagan's successor was to be the President to be in power when Anti-Christ staged his appearance. President Reagan took his second oath of office from the traditional East side of the Capitol as did President Bush. The plan called for only one President to face the occultic obelisk.

What is Eutopia?
Eutopia is a student-run journal of Catholic thought which seeks to address contemporary and controversial topics in Catholicism from a perspective that is loyal to the teaching of the Church. Eutopia is produced by graduate and undergraduate students of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Eutopia is published three times a semester.
What does the name Eutopia mean?
Our name, Eutopia , is a play on words devised by our founding Editor, Richard L. Kent. The word "Utopia," as you know, is derived from the Greek meaning "no place" and is the title of St. Thomas More's satirical political work. Like the fictitious country in More's novel, Utopia refers to a "place of fantasy," an earthly paradise, a perfect world brought about by the power of human beings, something most people know to be a pipe dream. Striving for this illusory and rationalistic Utopia is a recurring pretension of secular liberalism, both of More's day and our own.

130. Catholic Issues: Book Reviews, Articles, Pressing Issues, Discussions

PASTORAL STUDIES IN CONTEMPORARY CATHOLICISM
by Peter Gilmour, Institute of Pastoral Studies, Loyola University Chicago The phrase, "Pastoral Studies" has effectively etched its way into Catholic consciousness and conversation this past generation. Often used interchangeably with pastoral theology, it is a close relative to pastoral ministry, pastoral care, and pastoral counseling. Rhetorical ambiguity is understandable given Catholicism's massive change of consciousness and its emergent theological styles since Vatican II. Add to this picture the movement away from traditional categories of knowledge to interdisciplinary studies coupled with the emergence of new areas of study and focus, e.g. feminism, ecology, ethnic and gender studies. Pastoral Studies in the contemporary Catholic experience is an umbrella phrase embracing many varied forms of knowledge necessary and appropriate for effective ministerial activity. Broadly speaking, the knowledge of Pastoral Studies can be divided between the sacred and the secular. Sacred studies, e.g., theology, Bible, morality and ethics, liturgy and sacraments combine with secular studies, e.g., psychology, sociology, anthropology, philosophy to form the field of Pastoral Studies. It suggests a curriculum, a planned grouping of subjects and an organized approach to them leading to expertise in ministerial activity. Patricia O'Connell Killen and John de Beer's book, The Art of Theological Reflection (reviewed in this newsletter), well captures this essential melding of knowledge necessary for effective ministry.

PAGAN SUN WORSHIP AND CATHOLICISM
LA VERITA - THE TRUTH
In St. Peter's in Rome, there is a rather remarkable sculpture that probably goes mostly unnoticed by those who visit there. It is a part of a sculpture group by Gian Lorenzo Bernini decorating the tomb of Pope Alexander VII. At the four corners surrounding the enthroned Pope, are the four virtues, Charity, Prudence, Justice and Truth. Charity is on the front left side and "La Verita", which means "The Truth" is on the right front side of the overview below. Above scene from the video "Israel of the Alps"

Then looking closer you will see that she clutches in her arms the sun, probably symbolizing that the Truth will be revealed in time, by the light of day. Photo by Scala/Art Resource, New York Historically, pagan Babylon worshipped the sun as a deity, and pagan Rome also worshipped the invincible sun. The reader should be aware that my motivation for compiling these texts does not stem from a desire to "bash the heterodox" but rather to help my fellow Orthodox brothers and sisters to understand that much of the rhetoric we hear today regarding Western Christians is not faithful to Holy Tradition. It thus undermines the unity and uniqueness of the one true Church—the Orthodox Church—, which embodies the very criterion of Christianity, being the sole preserver of the unadulterated Apostolic and Holy Tradition. Take for example this statement by one of the leading ecumenical activists, the late Nicolas Zernov: It is necessary to state from the outset, that the attitude to the Christian West

Introduction
[1] The title of this presentation incorporates both the task assigned to me in this symposium and the content of my presentation. Mel Gibson is a self-confessed traditionalist Catholic, and the task assigned to me is to explain that contemporary traditionalist Catholicism. That explanation is the direct focus of this paper. To the extent that Gibson is a well-known traditionalist, and the son of an even better known traditionalist with bizarre and well-documented views, understanding traditionalism contributes indirectly to understanding Mel Gibson. Neither of those two understandings will permit me to make any judgment about Gibson’s film, The Passion of the Christ , which I have not seen, but they do raise and have raised questions about the film that would be very serious if verified. I will acknowledge those questions as I proceed.

History of Nagasaki catholicism from the Catholic Encyclopedia.

Nagasaki
(Nagasakiensis). Nagasaki, capital of the prefecture ( ken ) of the same name, is situated on a small peninsula on the south-eastern coast of the Island of Kiushiu, Japan . Its harbour, enclosed on three sides by mountains sloping down to the sea-shore and sheltered on the fourth (the entrance) by numerous islands, is one of the safest and most important in Japan . Being the first port of entry for vessels coming from the south and west, it is also one of the leading coaling-stations of the Far East. The principal industries of the town are the manufacture of engines and ship-building. It imports mainly cotton, coal, sugar, and petroleum; among its chief exports are coal, rice, flour, camphor, and tobacco. In the first ten centuries of our era we find references to the town under no less than seven distinct names, of which Fukaye no Ura (Fukaye Bay) is the best known. Its present name is probably derived from a certain Nagasaki Kotaro, who, about 1185-90, received Fukaye no Ura as his fief. Prior to the arrival of the Christian missionaries, however, Nagasaki was an insignificant village.
