Nicolas of Flue
Canonized on 15 May 1947, Nicolas of Flue , also known as Brother Klaus, hermit and mystic of Obwalden, became known to Confederates over the years as one of the noblest patriotic figures, in the fashion of a "national saint". The majority in Switzerland with over three million partisans, the Roman Catholic Church is obviously well represented in this country. The beginnings
Christianity very quickly penetrated into Switzerland via the merchants and Roman soldiers. The earliest trace of Christian life in Switzerland dates back to the decline of the Roman empire: in 377, Pontius Asclepiodotus, Roman prefect of Sion, had an inscription containing the monogram of the Christ engraved on a renovated official building. From this we can deduce that the population of Sion, from the first half of the fourth century, was primarily Christian. Geneva, Martigny and Coire were the first bishoprics, but Christianization did not truly begin until the Middle Ages, due in particular to the wandering Irish and Scottish monks such as Gall, Ursicinus, Germanus, Romanus, Fintan, Pirmin and Colombanus junior.

This book is not an attack on the Mary of the Bible. Instead you are being shown that the Mary of the Bible is not the Mary of Catholicism. Is Mary the mother of God? The Catholic church has given hundreds, even thousands of titles to Mary the Mother of Jesus. Of all of them, Mother of God is one of the most common. St. Alphonsus Liguori on Mary Alphonsus Mary Liguori is a well-known, respected figure and influential Catholic Bishop of the past. His teachings have been available for over 250 years. The Real Mary of the Bible Many non-Catholics have never really studied Mary with admiration. Let’s take a look at the real Mary of the Bible.

by John Ankerberg and John Weldon About This Article Back to A-Z Index About The Color Key ... Research Resources Roman Catholicism: Diverse worldwide Index of Cults and Religions , Watchman Fellowship In their book, , John Ankerberg and John Weldon write: Categories of Roman Catholicism The issues surrounding Catholic belief and authority are compounded by the fact there are some ten categories of Roman Catholicism around the world. The distinctions between them are often not clear because they may tend to overlap and merge or blur into one another. Nor would individual Catholics necessarily appreciate or agree with such labels. But they will serve as a convenient grouping for purposes of illustration: Nominal or social Catholicism The Roman Catholicism of the largely uncommitted perhaps those born or married into the Church but who have little knowledge of Rome's theology. In practice, they are principally Catholics in name only, although still Catholics ''in Christ'' because of baptism. Syncretistic/eclecti Catholicism The Roman Catholicism that is, to varying degrees, combined with and/or absorbed by the pagan religion of the indigenous culture in which it exists (e.g., as in South America and Africa).

86. Akan Cosmology
This site describes Akan cosmology and illustrates it through traditional Akan religious symbols, each of which encodes within its graceful lines a theological or moral belief or lesson. The integration of this rich traditional Akan symbolism into the Roman catholicism of Ghana is shown, as well.
http://www.marshall.edu/akanart/akancosmology.html
AKAN COSMOLOGY AKAN CULTURAL SYMBOLS PROJECT G. F. Kojo Arthur and Robert Rowe - 1998-2001 Hye anhye - Unburnable The Akan believe that the universe was created by a Supreme Being, whom they refer to variously as O b o ade e (Creator), Nyame (God), O domankoma (Infinite, Inventor), Ananse Kokuroko (The Great Spider; The Great Designer), etc.
The Akan religious thought is essentially theocentric and theistic, with the Supreme Being, God at the center of it all. From this perspective, the Akan use their cultural symbols to portray their beliefs about God, their attitudes towards God and His creation, and the Akan's relation to God and His Creation. The Akan also believe that human creativity affects the universe positively or negatively. In essence, the Akan believe the universe is both a natural and social creation. Social creation is in the form of institutions and products human beings have invented. The Akan is required to safeguard the environment of the universe for a continuum of society members consisting of the dead, the living, and the yet-to-be-born. The Akan claim the Supreme Being created life and death, and death overcame the Supreme Being. However, the Supreme Being, having the antidote to the venom of death, was able to overcome death. This Supreme Being, Nyame, has eternal life.

What is anti-Catholicism?
This page is devoted to identifying anti-Catholicism on the Net. Anti-Catholicism (like anti-Semitism in some ways) is not easy to define. I am often tempted to apply the "definition" of pornography advanced by a Supreme Court justice: "I can't define it, but I know it when I see it." My current working definition is historical: I see modern anti-Catholicism as continuing (with some interesting variations) the religious themes of the Protestant Reformation and the secular (anti-clerical) themes of the Enlightenment and post-Enlightenment periods. In the United States these two strands became intertwined in nineteenth century Nativism, and my thesis is that they have continued (though attenuated) up to the present. Anti-Catholic themes may be loosely categorized as follows:
  • attacking Catholicism as being un-Christian or a cult (in the pejorative and not the sociological sense);
  • ridiculing or misinterpreting Catholic doctrine or practice;

    Sixteenth till eighteenth Century
    The Dutch uprising against Spain, started in the sixties of the sixteenth century, became more and more dominated by the battle between Protestants and Catholics. In the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands (Zeven Verenigde Nederlanden) the Dutch reformed church was treated as the "one true religion" and therefore treated in a privileged manner, all though she was never given the status of State Church. In this way the Republic developed as a multiconfessional society, in which the Catholics, as a minority church, could maintain themselves pretty well as a minority church, all though they had to go to great costs to receive dispensation of anti-Catholic measures ('plakkaten').
    Still, the number of Catholics crumbled gradually, because they were, in practice, excluded from high places/functions, and on the other hand they scarcely profited from the charity system of poor relief.
    The Utrecht church province (the area above the river Waal) was hardly established in 1592 when it was again declared mission territory by Rome in 1592. The so-called

    The Truth About Roman Catholicism. By M. H. Reynolds
    THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH is by far the largest and wealthiest of all the so-called "Christian Denominations." It has consistently claimed to be the only true Churchthe Church which was founded by Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry. In addition, especially in this generation, it has embellished its image and attracted and held members by the claim that it is the one Church which has never changed, All of these claims are false. How-ever, in recent years, the Roman Catholic Church has done a complete about-face, actually boasting of the many changes it has instituted to meet the changing needs of Catholics and non-Catholics alike in this modern age. Is the Roman Catholic Church the one true Church? Are its past and present teachings and practices Scriptural? How has the Roman Catholic Church changed through the centuries? How much has it changed in our lifetime? Have these changes been basic or superficial? Where is the Roman Catholic Church headed? The purpose of this article is to turn the spotlight of truth upon Roman Catholicism both as to its past history and present teachings. Our sincere desire is to be of help to Catholics, many of whom are well aware that, in recent years, their church has been Instituting many changes, most of which have left them confused, uncertain, and deeply troubled. For the first time in their lives, many Catholics are raising serious questions about t their Church, its leaders, its teachings and its practices. They now realize that their church is not united but divided over issues such as birth control, abortion, divorce, celibacy for

Those words are not there because we have a Latino community here. In fact, our community is primarily Puerto Rican and the story behind the words is Mexican. These are words similar to and reminders of those words fellow Mexican Catholics used with each other during the darkest days of a persecution. Many people do not know that the Nation of Mexico had a severe anti-Catholic persecution. In the early days, soon after the Mexican Revolution, there were- as now in the United States-those making accusations against priests and authorities were arresting them. One such priest, Fr. Miguel Pro, was arrested on trumped up charges and sentenced to death by firing squad. The Mexican Government which was Atheist decided that what they would do is bring photographers from all over the country to photograph the execution. The reasoning was simple. Since the Federales figured that God did not exist and, therefore, the priest was living a lie, as soon as he realized his end was near he would fall to his knees beg for his life and prove that God did not exist.

  • The Founding:
    The apostles of Jesus Christ formed the beginnings of the Christian Church. They helped spread the Gospel and provided structure for the early Church. It is hard to differentiate the beginnings of the Roman Catholic church from that of the early Christian church. The apostle, Peter, also known as Simon, was of central importance. The Church was organized and presided over by Peter. According to the Scriptures, Matthew 16:13- 19, Christ said to Peter: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church." In 313, the Roman Catholic Church was legally recognized by the Roman Emperor Constantine, and, in 380 it became the official religion of the Roman Empire.
