This is a short doctrinal concordance of the Catholic faith. It is not a complete concordance. The purpose is to give people interested in Catholicism a quick reference for the most common items of the faith. Particularly in areas where Catholics and other religions disagree. This is dedicated to all the cradle Catholics, like myself, who one day woke up and realized they didn't know anything about Catholicism.
I'm trying to get enough money to upgrade this site (searchable database etc.). If you can help with a donation that would be great! Roman Catholicism
    Is It A Cult?*
To many Christians, the Roman Catholic Church is an enigma a mysterious ecclesiastical system of laws, rituals, and religious orders. For centuries there have been angry denouncements from Roman Catholics against Protestantism for the schism created by the Reformation, and from Protestants against Roman Catholicism for its theological errors and its claim to be the only one true church.
Out of this controversy, charges have arisen that Roman Catholicism is not truly Christian, but is in fact, the largest and oldest "Christian" cult in the world.
The Christian Research Institute , (CRI), founded by the late Dr. Walter Martin , is regarded by many as the foremost authority on cults and the occult. They also see themselves as experts on what constitutes Biblical theology. CRI has produced position papers on Roman Catholicism, addressing some of the doctrines with which they are in disagreement. They have stopped short, however, of acknowledging Roman Catholicism as a cult. They are, in fact, adamant in their defense of Roman Catholicism as an orthodox Christian religion. In this regard, they have come against others for their insistence that Roman Catholicism meets the criteria of a cult.
That there are grave problems with many Roman Catholic doctrines and interpretations of Scripture, no knowledgeable non-Catholic would dispute. But to what degree does Roman Catholicism present a danger to the purity of Biblical truth? Are their teachings, practices, and liturgy commiserate with cultism? Or are they truly Christian, differing only in minor interpretations and applications? To answer these questions, it is necessary to define just what constitutes a cult.

THE CURRENT POPE .... Man In A Religious Costume
At the outset, let it be known that this periodical does not intend to address the intentions of catholic people who attend catholic churches and love Jesus Christ. We are addressing false doctrine and those who know that what they teach is false, damnable, and has sent untold millions to a cold, dark, Christ-less hell. With that in mind, we begin with the current Pope, Pope John Paul II. POPE JOHN PAUL II .... Born in Wadowice, Poland on May 18, 1920; REAL NAME - "Karol Josef Wojtyla"; The son of a retired army officer and a school teacher. He studied literature and philosophy and later was a playwright and poet. NOTE: Before proceeding, we ask that you agree with us in prayer for the salvation of this man, especially considering his age and health. GOD ALMIGHTY holds each and every one of us accountable for what we do and how we hold up HIS Son Jesus Christ before others. It is possible that Pope John Paul II has repented for his tragic support for this false religious system, Roman Catholicism. That being the case, true biblical christianity should hold up the offering of prayer in the hope that before the Rapture, Pope John Paul II will become a powerful convert .... turning his back on apostate doctrine .... and shoving back the tides of hell by pleading that the innocents who occupy seats in the Roman Catholic deception will flee this religious system with fervency! individuals

Chapter XIII: Catholicism in its Actuality
Forward Karl Adam, one of the greatest of living theologians, was born in Bavaria in 1876, one of a family of ten. He received his education at the Classical Gymnasium at Amburg; the Philosophical and Theological Seminary at Regensburg; and received his Doctorate at the University of Munich in 1904. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1900 and spent the following two years doing parish work. His scholarly and theological interests soon became apparent and it was to this field that he naturally turned. In these early years his writing was specialized and was concentrated on the history of dogma. These earlier specialized works have never been translated but have been described by scholars in the field as outstanding. In 1915 he became a professor at Munich and two years later assumed the Chair of Moral Theology at Strasbourg. In 1919 he went to the University of Tuebingen to take over the Chair of Dogmatic Theology. It was at Tuebingen that he delivered the famous lectures on the Church which brought him world-wide fame. He is also considered an outstanding authority of the theology of St. Augustine and is known for his great love for tradition and the Fathers of the Church. His eminent position in the field of theology has been recognized for many years but his unswerving fidelity to his beliefs has often led him into great difficulties. A man of great dynamic force and personality, his style captivates readers and listeners alike, but any attempt to compromise or transmute his faith results in a forceful roar of protest.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only SON, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come again to judge the living and the dead. Avery Cardinal Dulles Among the major nations of the Western world, the United States is singular in still having the death penalty. After a five–year moratorium, from 1972 to 1977, capital punishment was reinstated in the United States courts. Objections to the practice have come from many quarters, including the American Catholic bishops, who have rather consistently opposed the death penalty. The National Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1980 published a predominantly negative statement on capital punishment, approved by a majority vote of those present though not by the required two–thirds majority of the entire conference. Pope John Paul II has at various times expressed his opposition to the practice, as have other Catholic leaders in Europe. Some Catholics, going beyond the bishops and the Pope, maintain that the death penalty, like abortion and euthanasia, is a violation of the right to life and an unauthorized usurpation by human beings of God’s sole lordship over life and death. Did not the Declaration of Independence, they ask, describe the right to life as “unalienable”? While sociological and legal questions inevitably impinge upon any such reflection, I am here addressing the subject as a theologian. At this level the question has to be answered primarily in terms of revelation, as it comes to us through Scripture and tradition, interpreted with the guidance of the ecclesiastical magisterium.

    Catholicism and the Bible:
    An Interview with Albert Vanhoye
    Peter Williamson
Father Albert Vanhoye recently began his second five-year term as Secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. In this interview with Catholic writer and lay theologian Peter Williamson, given in Rome on January 14, 1997, Vanhoye reflects upon key issues in Catholic interpretation of Scripture.—The Editors. The major accomplishment of your first term of service was the publication by the Biblical Commission of "The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church" in 1993, with the English version appearing in 1994. How was that document received? In general it has been very favorably received. I have been gratified to see multiple editions appear in various languages, often accompanied by useful introductions, responses, or commentary, such as Father Joseph Fitzmyer’s ample and careful commentary, which appears in one of the English editions. Reviews have also been quite positive. A Protestant reviewer wrote that the document could not have been "more timely" and that "Protestants should identify profoundly with the appeal of the Pontifical Biblical Commission boldly to reaffirm the Church’s hermeneutical prerogatives." A Jewish scholar wrote that it is "a document of great value to both Catholic and non-Catholic interpreters of the Bible" and a "remarkably open and learned report." Of course, critical opinions have also been expressed. One Protestant reviewer wrote that this document was too traditional and too committed to obedience to the magisterium. Yet on the whole the document has enjoyed a very favorable reception.

The great law of analogy is everywhere the master key of all spiritual mysteries, and, although Masonry and Catholicism do not begin till we arrive at the Earth Period, they have their prototype in the earlier Periods; we shall therefore briefly touch upon the essential facts. In the Saturn Period, the Earth-in-the-making was dark; HEAT, which is the manifestation of the ever invisible fire, was the only element then manifest; embryonic mankind was mineral-like, the only lower kingdom of evolving life. Unity was everywhere observable, and the Lords of Mind who were human then, were at one among themselves. In the Western Wisdom Teaching we speak of the highest Initiate of the Saturn Period as THE FATHER.

    60. Sacred Arts Of Haitian Vodou | Catholicism | American Museum Of Natural History
Forced into conversion, Africans found many correspondences between their ancestral religions and the rites and images of catholicism.
    http://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/vodou/roots1.html
All Africans had to be baptized into the Catholic Church according to the colonial slave code. Forced into conversion, Africans found many correspondences between their ancestral religions and the rites and images of Catholicism. So Catholic images, especially of the saints, were freely appropriated to honor African deities. The merging of symbols grew more intense after the French fled Haiti in 1804, abandoning their churches to the religious imagination of their former slaves. The influence of Catholic art and ritual on Vodou remains dramatically visible today. Both share the same ritual calendar. Vodou ceremonies start with Catholic prayers. The lwa are known as often by the names of Catholic saints as they are by their African names. Little in Catholic practice is alien from service to the lwa.
