August 10, 2003 Ok, now the site is really starting to get updated. As you can see by my obsolete news post below, there is no longer a "This Week" bar. It is now an "Upcoming" bar, as I really don't have enough stuff as of right now to justify updating every week. I mean, the Urbana Convention? Yeah, that's not coming up this week. Anyway, maybe if you're all good the "This Week" bar will come back, mmmkay? AP
August 10, 2003
Oh, and guys? Scour this site please. I need to know if anything is amiss, if I'm missing anything, and all that jazz. Also, if anybody wants to submit pictures of the week or scripture of the week, I'd be happy to oblige. Please wait until school starts, though. Thanks. AP

Biblical and Theological
Studies Overview
The Department of Biblical and Theological Studies and Youth Ministries serves the mission of Gordon College with emphasis on the centrality of the Word of God. The content and meaning of the Scriptures are the foci of all courses. The program gives students a thorough grounding in the truth of God's Word and prepares them to be effective witnesses for Christ in the contemporary world. The faculty teach the Bible in the context of its ancient life setting and demonstrate the pertinence of that timeless Word as authoritative today.
Ministry to the world today and service to the Church are stressed. Many graduates are admitted to seminaries and graduate schools to prepare for various ministries of teaching the Word while others immediately enter diverse church ministries and vocations around the world. Youth ministries majors (see separate sheet) are prepared to work effectively with young people in churches, parachurch organizations and other agencies. Other students are encouraged to make the Bible the emphasis in a broad liberal arts education, enabling them to live effectively and productively for Christ in whatever vocations they choose.

Does It Matter?
A New York Times Oswald Chambers, author of My Utmost For His Highest, bottom line: Integrity is the path Jesus calls us to take. Proverbs 11:1-8
1 The Lord abhors dishonest scales, but accurate weights are His delight. 2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. 3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. 4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death. 5 The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness. 6 The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires. 7 When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing. 8 The righteous man is rescued from trouble, and it comes on the wicked instead.

- Israel and the Home This year has been a blessed year for the Home and for Israel. We do not know how much you may have heard in the news but here is the short HBT version. Israel has had a massive rain shortage over the last few years. The water level of the Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee - the major fresh water source in the country) was getting lower and lower and the climate dryer and dryer and minor panic was in the air. This year, God has blessed us with more rain than we could have hoped for. At the beginning of the year, the Kinneret had been five meters below full and far below the red line. It rained, it poured, and as of the end of this winter, it was only 1 meter below full with more water to come when the snow on Mount Hermon melted. Mt. Hermon had an avalanche this year for the first time in living history! (The picture shows the Jordan overflowing at the end of winter.) The war in Iraq had a very mild effect on Israel in that every home had to prepare sealed rooms. Here at the Home, however, it did have a slightly greater consequence. One of our translation students was forced to leave due to circumstances surrounding the war. Despite the reduction in the the size of our student body, we had a very good year. Our remaining students did well in their studies, and the Home itself is considering some improvements for the future:
  • We have decided to experimentally change the prerequisite standards starting next year. For the 2004
