White Apostolic Christian Cemetery Wolcott, White County, Indiana Lat 40°45'38"N, Lon: 87°01'01"W Contributed by Frieda Klopfenstein, Nov 25, 2001 [ klopfensteinf@msn.com ]. Total records = 416. There is a wooden sign posted on 100N indicating the entrance road to the Wolcott Cemetery. The stone marker inside the cemetery indicates it is the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, although the western half of the cemetery is the Apostolic Christian area and the eastern half of it is the old "Wolcott" cemetery. My list includes both portions, making no distinction between the east and west portions of the cemetery. It is all enclosed by a single fence. The cemetery appears well-maintained. However, based upon the space between some of the older markers, I believe there are probably several missing markers. There is also a sheltered board containing metal tags identifying all of the military veterans buried in the cemetery. I didn't make any check of this list against the grave markers. I walked this cemetery on 11 Nov 2001, using my video camera to record all the markers. Some were not good enough to read, worn from years of weathering.

Warren Brethren and sisters, today I wish to occupy the pulpit to share with you something of the wonderful spirit that was enjoyed by the sub-apostolic Christian Church and to understand the great spiritual blessings they enjoyed from the Lord, blessings that should rightly belong to a modern Christian people aspiring to be obedient and faithful to the Law of Christ. Your first reaction may well be: what do you mean by the "sub-apostolic church? I have never heard of such a thing." If this is your confession, then it is likely to be the confession of most of Christendom which has forgotten a priceless heritage. I hope today to bring to your knowledge this lost treasure both for our sakes and for the Christian world in general. The Three Periods of Gospel Light In the New Covenant Church we speak of three periods of glorious light at the beginning of the Christian dispensation in the years before apostacy snuffed out the unique spirit of the first Christians. The first period we call the Gospel Period which corresponds to the time of Christ's personal ministry in the flesh. The Church, which in organisation consisted of no more than 12 apostles in the process of training, centred around the oral teachings of Jesus.

Apostolic Christian Church In the years between 1868 and 1890, a number of families of the Apostolic Christian faith came to the community of West Bend, where some of them received Patent Land Grants from the U.S. Government on unbroken prairie land. Some came by covered wagon, drawn by oxen, and horses from Elgin Iowa Others come from various places, including Ohio Illinois and some from Switzerland No tree grew except along rivers and streams, but prairie grass was everywhere, some as tall as a boy on horseback! Some of the families lived in log cabins, others in sod houses made by staking squares of sod for walls. The roofs were made of small willow limbs tied together with prairie grass, until they were about a foot in thickness. The floors were dirt, perhaps in very rare instances an animal skin for a rug, and open fireplaces were used for cooking and also provided warmth. Trips to town were not frequent as “town” was Fort Dodge , 45 miles away. These trips were made by a group of men and took several days. They brought mail, sugar, and flour made from wheat which they had taken with them to be ground at the mills.
