The Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) is a worldwide association of orthodox Anglican churches, working to maintain the catholic faith and resist the secularization of the Church. Our member churches comprise more than 400,000 members on 6 continents. We strive to faithfully carry the catholic message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a world which desperately needs it, and to preserve the "faith once delivered to the saints" in its Anglican form as the true and valid expression of that message. Bulletins and announcements of new press releases appear here as warranted - check back often. Last modified: December 06, 2003

The History of the Church

Anglicanism
A term used to denote the religious belief and position of members of the established Church of England, and of the communicating churches in the British possessions, the United States (see E PISCOPAL C HURCH ), and elsewhere. It includes those who have accepted the work of the English Reformation as embodied in the Church of England or in the offshoot Churches which in other countries have adhered, at least substantially, to its doctrines, its organization, and its liturgy. Apart from minor or missionary settlements, the area in which Anglicanism is to be found corresponds roughly with those portions of the globe which are, or were formally, under the British flag. BELIEFS To form a general idea of Anglicanism as a religious system, it will be convenient to sketch it in rough outline as it exists in the Established Church of England, bearing in mind that there are differences in detail, mainly in liturgy and church-government, to be found in other portions of the Anglican communion.

50. CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Anglican Orders
anglican Orders. In VI. That the present anglican clergy are bishops, priests, and deacons in the latter sense admits of no dispute.

Home Encyclopedia Summa Fathers ... A > Anglican Orders A B C D ... Z
Anglican Orders
In the creed of the Catholic Church, Holy Order is one of the Seven Sacraments instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ . Its office is to transmit and perpetuate those mystic powers of the priesthood whereby the Blessed Sacrament of the altar is consecrated and offered up in sacrifice ; and whereby alone the Sacraments of Confirmation Penance , and Extreme Unction can be validly administered. Holy Order is in three degrees: those of bishops priests , and deacons , the bishops possessing the priesthood in its plenitude, that is, with the power not only to exercise this ministry personally, but also to transmit it and the diaconate to others. Thus the bishop is the only minister of Holy Order, and for its valid administration it is essential that he
  • should himself have received a valid episcopal consecration, and
  • should use a rite in which are reserved all the essentials of validity as instituted by Christ.
To have received or failed to receive orders under these conditions is to be within or without the Apostolical succession of the Catholic ministry.

Church of Ireland Website

Welcome to the Bishops' Appeal website. Bishops' Appeal is the Church of Ireland World Aid and Development Programme. As you will see from the website, our concerns fall into a number of categories:
  • to educate the Church at home about the needs and concerns of people in the less developed world;
  • to encourage Church members to examine the reasons for the problems facing the less fortunate in the world and to consider what we can do to change conditions;
  • to reach out in God's name to those who need our help;
  • to raise the funds needed to allow Bishops' Appeal to support development projects and alleviate the suffering caused by disasters, both natural and man-made.
Bishops' Appeal does not engage directly in development work itself, but channels funds through development agencies who are already in place in areas of need. You can visit the websites of some of these agencies through the links on the Partners page on this site.
Bishops' Appeal contributes to relief of suffering in time of emergencies whether natural or man-made. However, our main concern is to support ongoing development in the fields of sustainable agriculture, health, including HIV/AIDS, and education in many parts of the world. We aim to enable people to have more control over their own lives so that they are less dependent on others than they are today.
