The Gospel of Barnabas
Ahmadiyya
In India around the year 1879 a Muslim, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908), came to believe that he had been chosen by God as a reformer of Islam. He established his own movement, Ahmadiyyat , and very soon promulgated many changes to the beliefs of orthodox Muslims. He believed that he himself was the Mahdi - the reviver of Islam and the second coming of Jesus in the Spirit. Orthodox Muslims were incensed but could not stop him. According to Ahmadiyya sources there are about twelve million adherents of this sect in the world today. ]. To what extent the gospel of Barnabas is in conflict with the Qur'an is discussed in the In Conflict with Islam section. So, how does this gospel compare with the Ahmadiyya sect?
  • The Ahmadiyya movement believes that their leader was a prophet of God after Muhammad. In contrast this gospel states that "there shall not come after him true prophets sent by God, but there shall come a great number of false prophets..." (Barnabas, chapter 97).
  • The gospel of Barnabas relates the stories of the healing of the sick and the raising of the dead by Jesus. The Ahmadiyya movement does not believe in these miracles. Mirza Ahmad wrote in one of his books, "... a thing which is not possible for the Holy prophet (Muhammad) - the best of prophets ... how can it be so for the Messiah (Jesus)!" [

A Brief Sketch of the Ahmadiyya Movement
    by Maulana Mohmmad Ali
Early life of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement
It was probably in the year 1935 C.E. that Mirza Gh ulam Ahmad, the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Movement, was born. He was the son of Mirza Gh ulam Murtaza. His ancestors had emigrated from Samarqand to India in 1530 C.E. during the reign of Mughal Emperor Babur and settled down in the Gurdaspur district, Punjab, India. Here they founded the present town of Qadian , which was originally named Islam Pur Qadi. This was shortened to Qadi and then to Kadi and finally it became Qadian. His family belonged to the Mughals and descended from Haji Barlas. On this account the Founder and his ancestors were called Mirza and for this reason, too, he was reputed as Mirza Gu lham Ahmad of Qadian.

AI asks government to ensure freedom of religion
    Staff Correspondent
The Amnesty International (AI) has urged the government to immediately rescind the ban on Ahmadiyaa publications and not yield to Islamist groups' demands that are discriminatory in nature and amount to violation of Ahmadiyya rights. The international human rights watchdog also asked the government to publicly declare its full support for the freedom of religion and ensure that no acts of intimidation or violence against the Ahmadiyyas are tolerated and all perpetrators are brought to justice. The AI made these recommendations in a report titled 'Bangladesh: The Ahmadiyya Community - their rights must be protected' posted on its website Friday. The report said Ahmadiyyas have been the target of a hate campaign organised by a number of Islamist groups in recent months, adding these groups mobilised crowds to chant anti-Ahmadiyya slogans, sought confiscation of Ahmadiyaa mosques, and demanded that the government declare them non-Muslims. About 100,000 Ahmadiyyas have been living in fear of attack, loot and murder since around October 2003 when the anti-Ahmadiyya agitation began, it said.
