Operator Theory, Integral Equations and Applications Group of CMA Research interests of this group are on the area of Operator Theory, with particular incidence on the field of Singular Integral Operators and its Applications. We have been trying to explore the connection with other fields of Mathematics, namely: Complex Analysis and Partial Differential Equations. Within the area of Operator Theory, priviledge goes to the approach of several problems using Banach Algebras (usually non-commutative) which will extend the interest of the results to other mathematical subjects. 64. LP: Operator Theories
An operator theory is logically equivalent to a set of equations involving a single operator. Syntax. operatortheory = (ac commutative) operator .
http://nms.lcs.mit.edu/Larch/LP/logic/operator-theory.html
LP, the Larch Prover Operator theories
An operator theory is logically equivalent to a set of equations involving a single operator . At present, LP supports two operator theories:
  • the commutative theory, which is axiomatized by the commutative law x + y = y + x
  • the associative-commutative ac ) theory, which is axiomatized by the commutative law together with the associative law x + (y + z) = (x + y) + z
LP uses operator theories to circumvent problems with nonterminating rewriting systems. Because the commutative law cannot be oriented into a terminating rewrite rule, LP uses equational term-rewriting to match and unify terms modulo the ac and commutative operator theories.
Syntax
ac commutative operator
Examples
ac + commutative gcd
Usage
Users can assert or prove operator theories. LP hardwires the logical connectives , and as associative-commutative operators. It hardwires the equality operator =:S,S->Bool as a commutative operator when the sort S is not Bool The fact ac op normalizes the fact commutative op to true To display the operator theories in LP's logical system, type

65. Operator Theory For Quantum Physics
The following are some details of linear operator theory that may be useful to the students of PHY 571 Quantum Physics. Linear operator theory Overview.
http://venables.asu.edu/quant/huzhan/qm_web.html
The following are some details of linear operator theory that may be useful to the students of PHY 571: Quantum Physics . Many of the rigorous mathematical details have been omitted in the interest of brevity, although some details are indicated. The connection between the operator methods and the matrix methods is outlined in this page. Specific matrix methods are outlined in another page, whose link will be placed here.
Linear Operator Theory Overview
All wave or state functions will be considered to be square integrable, unless otherwise indicated. They can also be differentiable, even if very sharp (e.g., the unit step is considered to have the delta function as its derivative.) An operator A is linear if for every complex number c and functions u and v A c u v c A u A v A linear space or subspace is a collection of functions such that for all complex numbers c and d and all functions u and v in the linear space, c u +d v is also in the space. Two functions are called orthogonal if their scalar product (also called the "inner product") is zero; i.e., The magnitude (or "size") of a wave function is the scalar product of the function with itself; i.e.

Operator Theory in the Unit Disk
Operator theory related to Bergman spaces was mainly developed in the late 1980's. The following classes of operators are the most prominent examples: Toeplitz operators, Hankel operators, and composition operators. Zhu's book "Operator Theory in Function Spaces" describes the main achievements for that period. The following are several widely studied problems and results in these areas, some of which occured after Zhu's book.
Toeplitz Operators
It is easy to see that the only compact Toeplitz operator on the Hardy space is the zero operator, while there exist a lot of compact Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. Thus the first natural problem here is to characterize the compact Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space. A satisfactory characterization in the general case is still lacking, but several important special cases are completely understood now. If the symbol function f is continuous on the maximal ideal space of H-infinity (this includes the case of continuous functions on the closed disk and bounded harmonic functions in the open disk), then it is simple to show that the corresponding Toeplitz operator on the Bergman space is compact if and only if f uniformly vanishes on the boundary. If the symbol function f is nonnegative, then the compactness (and more generally membership in Schatten classes) of Toeplitz operators was characterized by Luecking

The 1998 Canadian Operator Theory and Operator Algebras Symposium, U. Alberta, Edmonton, May 21-May 25, 1998
The Canadian Operator Theory and Operator Algebras Symposium attracts between 70 and 100 mathematicians from Canada, the United States, and overseas. Canada's strength in these areas has enabled us to host one of the two most important conferences in this area in North America (the other being the American counterpart - the Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium), and arguably one of the top three annual conferences in Operator Theory/Algebras in the world. The conference takes place over a period of five days, and traditionally has had a principal speaker who delivers three one-hour lectures on a given subject, as well as ten to twelve invited speakers of international calibre who each deliver one-hour lectures. The remaining lectures, which range in number from 25 to 40, consist of contributed talks. In previous years, principal speakers have included some of the top people in the field, including W. Arveson, M.D. Choi, R. Douglas, P. Fillmore, N. Nikolskii, V. Paulsen, and D. Voiculescu, to name but a few, as well as Fields medal winner Alain Connes. It is one of the aims of the Canadian Operator Theory and Operator Algebras Symposium to introduce graduate students and recent graduates in Operator Theory into this active mathematical community, helping to maintain Canada's position as one of the leaders in this field.
