Modula-2 Numerical Analysis Software
This package is a zip file containing Modula-2 source code for a collection of numerical analysis modules. As supplied, the PIM version uses some modules from the PMOS library, but PMOS is not an absolute prerequisite.
What you get
  • Complex number arithmetic (useful if your compiler doesn't support the data type COMPLEX). Addition, subtraction, multiplication, square root, sin, cos, etc.
  • Matrices. Various operations including solving linear equations and finding eigenvalues.
  • Polynomials: manipulation of polynomials, including root finding.
  • Fast Fourier Transform.
  • Solving ordinary differential equations.
What you don't get
This is a freeware package, and like all free software it comes with absolutely no support or guarantees of any kind. Furthermore, this is an early version, so I'm not promising to keep a consistent interface from one version to the next. On the other hand, I'm not placing any restrictions on its use or modification. All I ask is that you refrain from presenting my work as if it were your own.

    Secretariat: Dorthe Thøgersen
Phone: +45 45253071 - fax +45 45932373 The Section for Numerical Analysis focuses on the numerical and computational aspects of mathematical modeling and scientific computing. Numerical analysis deals with the development of efficient and reliable algorithms for computations with floating-point numbers on computers, as well as the underlying theory related to the accuracy and stability of the algorithms. With the advance of modern high-performance computers, and in particular computers with parallel architecture, the implementation aspects have come to play an important role in numerical analysis. At the same time, as the computational problems increase in size and complexity, the interplay between the mathematical modeling, the numerical algorithms, and the computer implementation becomes increasingly important. This interplay is at the heart of today's scientific computing. NAG: Finn Kuno Christensen, March 29, 2004

The Numerical Analysis Group is involved in research into techniques for the solution of large scale problems in science, engineering, operations research and economics. One of the main strengths of the group, and one for which it is internationally recognized, is in the solution of large sparse systems of linear equations, and of large-scale linear and nonlinear optimization problems. Members of the group are involved in many collaborative ventures overseas, including projects with Belgium, France, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and the USA. This work is described in our series of technical reports and in various publications. Information is also disseminated through invited and contributed presentations at international meetings and conferences and some of our talks are available from the Web. Furthermore, implementations of the underlying numerical algorithms are generally available in software developed both for HSL (formerly the Harwell Subroutine Library), for

    R. Quispel ( Latrobe University, Melbourne)
    P. Tempesta (CRM)
    Scope of the workshop
The main objective is to bring together experts on applications of group theory to difference schemes with practitioners of numerical methods. We consider it extremely important to establish bridges between recent theoretical developments, mainly aimed at obtaining exact analytical solutions, and other developments concerning numerical algorithms. The results of the workshop, as presented in the talks and discussions should be summed up in a book which we hope will be a monograph and thus of permanent value. The topics we plan to discuss include the following: 1. Lie group methods in numerics
