    111. Animating The DJ
This shows the process of modelling and animating a 3D cartoon man DJing.
    http://www.cyberloonies.com/3DSanimation.htm
    Animating the DJ
    2. 3D Studio Max is very flexible and allows you to choose between many controller's that can be used to make the animation, each of which requires individual learning. For this animation I have used Euler XYZ as the rotation controller. Using this, rotation around the X, Y, and Z axes need to be plotted separately. 3. The video shows the head moving from side to side during the first 1.1 seconds. If you are running Internet Explorer you can see this more clearly by slowly dragging the progress bar. This is done by rotation along the Z axis. 4. All popular animation packages use the concept of keyframing. Key frames can be described as points in time when objects start and stop important movements. Once the key frames have been defined, the actual simulated motion is produced by drawing the "in-between" frames, which contain the incremental movement of objects from one key frame to the next. The above picture shows the first head movement described using 4 key frames. The axes on the graph are degrees of rotation on the vertical axis, and time in seconds along the horizontal axis. Also notice that the eyes, mouth and headphones rotate with the head object even though you haven't specified rotations for them. This is the magic of hierarchical modelling. 5. The above hand drawn illustration shows the effect of the rotation value on the DJ's head. This is dependent on the rotation controller that is being used, but most of them work like this.

    GANES Objectives:
    Primary
To apply the techniques of ocean data assimilation to Earth Observation (EO) data and thereby to improve the ability to model and forecast currents and water properties in European coastal and shelf sea regions.
    Secondary
To produce a temporally varying analysis from 1993-97 of ocean currents and water properties on a global scale using EO data, and to make these data accessible in an archive.
To apply model nesting techniques to allow European coastal and shelf sea models to utilize the archived data sets as boundary conditions and thereby to improve prediction of coastal flows.
To encourage the wider use of EO data by the shelf sea modelling community by transferring data assimilation techniques from the open ocean modelling community.

    Introduction
    History
The Department was formed in August 1989, by the amalgamation of the Statistics section from the Department of Mathematics, with the Theoretical Population Dynamics group from the Department of Physics and Applied Physics. The aim of the merger was to consolidate the existing research strengths of both partners, to enhance the University's commitment to statistical and biomathematical modelling, and to catalyse the development of new cross-disciplinary teaching initiatives.
    Location
The Department is located on the seventh and eighth floors of the Livingstone Tower on the University's John Anderson Campus. The departmental office can be found in room L7.27A.
