This award-winning globe could help children become A+ geography students. The Explorer Globe II is jam-packed with hundreds of facts, trivia, and useful scholastic information about every aspect of the geographical world. It electronically verbalizes everything from area population, capitol city/country, state/province, large bodies of water, currencies, high points, distance, and more. Other remarkable features make the Explorer an even more useful reference tool. It has a world clock that, once set from your home area, will tell the time in every other part of the world. And any country can be selected to hear a sample its national music (yes, Tahiti does have a national anthem). The globe sits on a sturdy base, which features a dashboard full of interactive functions and an attached soft-tipped stylus. This stylus is the key instrument: use it to touch virtually any point on the surface of the globe to retrieve information. Diane Beall

This talking book comes with an interactive ''magic pen'' that works like a hand-held computer mouse pointer. Children can opt to turn the paper pages and listen to the story read with different voices for each character. Or they can interrupt the read-aloud session to play with the magic pen (permanently attached with a wire). They can point the pen tip to any word on a page and hear it pronounced, or touch a picture and hear a sound effect (such as ''Strike one!'' for the baseball bat). Very similar to the popular Living Books computer games, this 10-by-11-inch book is more portable than a home computer. Stories in this set include Lil's Loose Tooth, Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, and Winnie the Pooh in A Sweet Good Morning. The set also includes a paper piano keyboard and map and human anatomy games. Gail Hudson

Measure The terms "measure," "measurable," etc., have very precise technical definitions (usually involving sigma-algebras ) which can make them appear difficult to understand. However, the technical nature of the definitions is extremely important, since it gives a firm footing to concepts which are the basis for much of analysis (including some of the slippery underpinnings of calculus For example, every definition of an integral is based on a particular measure: the Riemann integral is based on Jordan measure , and the Lebesgue integral is based on Lebesgue measure . The study of measures and their application to integration is known as measure theory A measure is formally defined as a nonnegative function from a collection of sets F that form a sigma-algebra to the reals such that and, if

    Lebesgue-Stieltjes integration
If you are having difficulty understanding this article, you might want to first learn more about integrals, particularly the Lebesgue integral , and measure theory In measure-theoretic analysis and related branches of mathematics , the Lebesgue-Stieltjes integration generalizes the Riemann-Stieltjes and Lebesgue integration , preserving the many advantages of the latter in a more general measure-theoretic framework. Lebesgue-Stieltjes integrals, named for Henri Leon Lebesgue and Thomas Joannes Stieltjes , are also known as Lebesgue-Radon integrals or just Radon integrals, after Johann Radon , to whom much of the theory of the present topic is due. They find common application in probability and stochastic processes , and in certain branches of analysis including potential theory. Table of contents 1 Formal construction

Measure and Integration is a daunting subject for mathematical neophytes. Bartle's little volume is the right place to start. I first learned measure theory from it 20 years ago and went on to study functional analysis and stochastic approximation. I was able to master the material on my own with this book. The problems are at the right level and he begins with the correct level of abstraction. I recommend it over anything else because it is straighforward, clear and focused. Master it then go on to Walter Rudin's Real and Complex Analysis. Look for related books on other categories Calculus Measure theory Integrals, Generalized

1482. A Measure of Stock Market Integration for Developed and Emerging Markets
    Robert A. Korajczyk
(June 1995) Along several dimensions, a measure of the financial integration of equity markets yields results consistent with prior assumptions about the relationship between effective integration, explicit capital controls, capital market development, and economic growth. If equity markets are financially integrated, the price of risk should be the same across markets. If the markets are not financially integrated-possibly because of barriers to capital flows across markets-the price of risk may differ across markets. Korajczyk investigates one measure of financial integration between equity markets. He uses a multifactor equilibrium Arbitrage Pricing Theory to define risk and to measure deviations from the "law of one price." He applies the integration measure to equities traded in 24 countries (four developed, and 20 emerging). The measure of market segmentation tends to be much larger for emerging markets than for developed markets, which is consistent with larger barriers to capital flows into or out of the emerging markets. The measure tends to decrease over time, which is consistent with growing levels of integration.
