When discussing a rotation , there are two possible conventions: rotation of the axes and rotation of the object relative to fixed axes. Hadamard Matrix
A Hadamard matrix is a type of square (-1,1)-matrix invented by Sylvester (1867) under the name of anallagmatic pavement, 26 years before Hadamard (1893) considered them. In a Hadamard matrix, placing any two columns or rows side by side gives half the adjacent cells the same sign and half the other sign, with the additional rule that an L -shaped "half-frame" bordering the matrix on two sides and composed entirely of 1s is omitted from the counts. When viewed as pavements, cells with 1s are colored black and those with -1s are colored white. Therefore, the Hadamard matrix must have white squares (-1s) and black squares (1s). A Hadamard matrix of order n is a solution to Hadamard's maximum determinant problem , i.e., has the maximum possible

Matrices Definitie Bewerkingen Eigenschappen Determinanten ...

Matrices, Vector Spaces, and Information Retrieval

Abstract. The evolution of digital libraries and the Internet has dramatically transformed the processing, storage, and retrieval of information. Efforts to digitize text, images, video, and audio now consume a substantial portion of both academic and industrial activity. Even when there is no shortage of textual materials on a particular topic, procedures for indexing or extracting the knowledge or conceptual information contained in them can be lacking. Recently developed information retrieval technologies are based on the concept of a vector space. Data are modeled as a matrix, and a user's query of the database is represented as a vector. Relevant documents in the database are then identified via simple vector operations. Orthogonal factorizations of the matrix provide mechanisms for handling uncertainty in the database itself. The purpose of this paper is to show how such fundamental mathematical concepts from linear algebra can be used to manage and index large text collections. Key words.

The Efficient Computation of Sparse Jacobian Matrices Using Automatic Differentiation
Thomas F. Coleman, Arun Verma
Abstract. This paper is concerned with the efficient computation of sparse Jacobian matrices of nonlinear vector maps using automatic differentiation (AD). Specifically, we propose the use of a graph coloring technique, bicoloring, to exploit the sparsity of the Jacobian matrix J and thereby allow for the efficient determination of J using AD software. We analyze both a direct scheme and a substitution process. We discuss the results of numerical experiments indicating significant practical potential of this approach. Date: 27 Feb 1995 21:54:27 -0500 From: Steve Toub Subject: Re: Re: A matrix and its inverse Ken- Thank you so much for your help with matrices. I totally understand the multiplication part now, and I understand the idea of an inverse and what it is, but not how to find it. Is there some sort of formula or equation to finding an inverse? The reason that I am asking these questions is that I am in the process of writing a shareware math stack for High School aged kids. The programming part is easy, it is the math that I have a little knowledge problem with. By the way, if I ever get the program done, I will be sure to include your name under the credits.
