161. Center For Computational Geophysics
Established in 1998 to promote cross disciplinary studies of the Earth requiring large computational resources. Research areas include petroleum, environmental, academic seismology, lithosphere and whole mantle geodynamics, and fault mechanics.

Rice Center for Computational Geophysics
The Center is supported by Rice University, and has research funding from NSF, DOE, and two industrially sponsored consortia. Cross-disciplinary professional M.S. and Ph.D. programs are offered by the Computational Science and Engineering Degree Program , allowing students in the three departments the opportunity to create a flexible research and course program.

163. Quaternary Research At The Department Of Geology, UW-Madison
In Department of Geology geophysics, UWMadison. Studies of basic and applied problems in glacial geology, Quaternary geology, engineering geology, and hydrogeology.

Madison.
For info about the city click here . Our group studies a range of both basic and applied problems in glacial geology, Quaternary geology, engineering geology, and hydrogeology. Prospective graduate students click here for information and updates on graduate opportunies. To the right is a picture of a large oval drumlin located in southeastern Wisconsin. Drumlins are streamlined hills formed beneath glaciers. Check out our site about our 1997 trip to Iceland
Check out our site about our 2000 trip to Iceland.
Check out our photos from Svalbard in 2002 THERE WILL BE AN ICELAND MODERN GLACIERS CLASS IN AUGUST 2004!
(more info coming) If you have questions about Quaternary research or graduate studies at the UW please contact us at 608-262-8960. Visit Quaternary Studies at the University of WisconsinMadison for general information about Quaternary Studies in this and other departments on campus. The Department of Geology and Geophysics is located in Weeks Hall (building 142 on the map found at this link). Quick link to Quaternary Lab Link to Glacial Songs
The Quaternary Period
The Quaternary Period includes the last 1.8 million years. One of the most significant aspects of this period is the expansion of Northern Hemisphere ice sheets collectively known as the "Ice Age". Evidence from the deep oceans indicate that there have been over two dozen cold (glacials) and warm (interglacial) periods during the last 2.4 million years. The most recent glaciation began about 125,000 years ago and climaxed about 21,000 years ago. At this time, over 30 percent of earth's surface was covered by ice, and sea level was at least 125 meters lower than present.
