Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Biostatistics of the School of Public Health and Health Professions at the State University of New York at Buffalo
The mission of the Department of Biostatistics is to educate and train biostatistical scientists; collaborate with researchers in clinical and public health; conduct methodological research; collaborate with local, state, and national health institutions; and to responsibly serve our University and the statistics and public health professions.
In addition, the department's mission guides our involvement in a wide variety of activities and associations that provide a rich environment for the education and practical training of biostatisticians. Faculty and students work together to develop and apply statistical methods in bioinformatics, epidemiology, public health, and clinical, laboratory, or other health sciences. The Department is home to the School of Public Health and Health Professions Population Health Observatory and has strong partnerships with the Gynecologic Oncology Group Statistical and Data Center, the

This course is designed as an introduction to the statistical principles that form the basis for the design and analysis of research investigations. The focus of topics will benefit individuals within the pharmaceutical and biotech industries including medical investigators, basic and clinical research scientists, clinical research associates those involved in regulatory affairs. It will concentrate on the philosophy and understanding of the statistical principles required in conducting sound scientific investigations. It will not simply present statistical formulae. Thus, the lectures are oriented toward professionals having little or no formal training in statistics or mathematics.
Learning Objectives
Those completing this course will have an understanding of the concepts and statistical methods required in biological and health science research. They will be able to interpret results related to design and analysis issues as routinely presented in the scientific literature and clinical trials.
