Introduction
A stronomers have access to a wide range of superb resources on the Web. You can get the news from Mars Global Surveyor , find out where the Jupiter probe, Galileo , is now, and still have time to view the latest amazing images from the Hubble Space Telescope The rapid growth and developments taking place on the Web has led to Web Sites/Pages frequently moving, thereby changing their addresses (URLs), or sometimes disappearing altogether! It is because of this that some of these links may occasionally fail. I would welcome feedback on this and on any good sites you think should be added. You can mail me at L.A.Crawshaw@herts.ac.uk
Some Good Starting Points
Whether you're searching the Internet for information, newsgroups, images, software, organizations, animations, etc. the following may prove useful Jumping-Off Points from which to begin. CSO
CSO Publications List (1999-2002) Group Submillimeter Group Publications ... For local users Submillimeter wave astronomy is a relatively new branch of astronomy that studies celestial objects using the submillimeter band of the electromagnetic spectrum, which ranges from 0.1 millimeters to 1.0 millimeters (300 GHz to 3000 GHz). This band, which lies between the far infrared and high-frequency radio bands, contains valuable astonomical data (in form of both continuum emissions and molecular radiations), but has been unavailable to astronomers until recently because most of the radiation is blocked by the Earth's atmosphere. In order to overcome this barrier, submillimeter observatories such as the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) are usually placed at high altitude. The Caltech group is also working on instruments for a new space telescope, the Herschel Space Observatory , or HSO (formerly known as FIRST ) , and an airborne observatory aboard a Boeing 747SP, SOFIA

    Theoretical Astrophysics Program
    Overview
In 1985, The University of Arizona consolidated its traditional and long-standing strength in astronomy and planetary sciences through an interdisciplinary program in theoretical astrophysics that involves the Physics Astronomy , and Planetary Sciences Departments. The Theory program administers a Monday colloquium series, a theory lunch, graduate student research and recruitment prizes, and a newsletter. In addition, it has a modest travel and capital equipment budget to facilitate the science of its junior members. See the program description for more detail.
The University of Arizona has established the Arizona Prize Postdoctoral Fellowship as part of its Program in Theoretical Astrophysics. See the full advertisement for more detail and application information. See the schedule for the new Dark Matter Discussion Group. The American Astronomical Society has just announced that Xiao-hui Fan would receive the 2003 Pierce Prize and Frank Low the 2003 Weber Prize. TAP members can also submit proposals for the Theoretical Astrophysics Grants Program , and graduate students can submit papers for the

    http://spider.pas.rochester.edu/mainFrame/research/astro.html
The field of astronomy and astrophysics is on the verge of a burst of discovery and synthesis, driven by the convergence of sophisticated technology - advanced detectors and instrumentation, and supercomputers with new platforms of unprecedented power, like the NASA Great Observatories, 8-10 meter ground-based telescopes, and a revitalized NASA Explorer satellite program. These advances will decisively affect many of the fundamental studies of origins, dynamics, and emission for all scales of astrophysical phenomena from large scale structure in the universe, to galaxies, to stars and planetary systems Department faculty conduct research in astrophysics that embraces both the development of astronomical technology and the interpretation of its results. Profs. Forrest Pipher and Watson are members of instrument science teams on the fourth of the NASA Great Observatories, the Space Infrared Telescope Facility ( SIRTF ), which is expected to contribute crucially to all of the "origins" studies. They specialize in observational studies of Galactic and extragalactic star formation, of planetary system formation through the evolution of the disks surrounding young stars, and in the development of sensitive infrared detector arrays and instruments for astronomy (see page of the infrared astronomy group). Our newest faculty member, Prof.
