The Prize Winners and the Concert Tradition was given years before the Foundation was officially established (in 1965). Igor Stravinsky in his younger days The Russian composer IGOR STRAVINSKY received the Music Prize in 1959 at an award ceremony that took place at a concert of The Royal Danish Orchestra, held in Copenhagen's Tivoli Gardens Concert Hall, with Stravinsky himself conducting his own works. Thus was a tradition born.

Young Pianist Hits Right Note Li Yundi, a 18-year-old pianist rose to world fame after he won first prize at the 14th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw last month. The contest, the most prestigious piano contest in the world which has been held every five years since 1927, has decided the fate of many piano masters. Among former first prize winners, Maurizio Pollini is now enjoying world respect and Krystian Zimerman has become the embodiment of Chopin in the 20th century. "Pollini won the contest at 18 - I would like to be another Maurizio Pollini," Li Yundi said. Li won the competition by showing off his all-round mature playing technique and in-depth understanding of Chopin.

86. On Yundi Li
Not only was he the first Chinese pianist to capture gold at the greatest living pianists our time Martha Argerich, Maurizio Pollini, and krystian zimerman.
http://herewestand.org/english/HereWeStandMagazine/YundiLi.html
On Yundi Li Alex Tseng Yundi Li- what can I say about him? There isn't much I can say, except to praise him for the music he has played for us, and to praise God, for the tremendous gift with which He has blessed Yundi , that he may share it with us, in awe of God's generous beauty, that even those who do not know Him may experience and enjoy this beauty. Yundi Li is the 1st prize winner of the 2000 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw . Li's emergence from the competition caused a sensation in the musical world. Not only was he the first Chinese pianist to capture gold at the competition, but also he was the youngest ever. In the two previous competitions in 1990 and 1995, 1st place was not awarded because none of the competitors was considered good enough to share the same glory of the great competition winners in the past. Prior to that, Stanislov Bunin was the winner of the 1985 competition, already considered inferior to previous winners. Indeed, the judging system is extremely harsh, and the competition is the most competitive in the world. Take Vladimir Ashkenazy and Mitsuko Uchida for example. They would be well-deserving of a first prize in the competition, but there were superior competitors in their years, and they each captured second prize, with Adam

    A Pianist's Search for Perfection
Ivan Moravec will be playing the piano in concerts in Australia in 1998. Prosaic words, but in some circles they'll cause great excitement. Few pianists are more respected by their peers or more admired by connoisseurs of piano music. personality I'd always been curious about Moravec, ever since his first recordings became available in Australia, and their distributor, the late Peter Mann of Discurio, enthused to me and others about this great Czech pianist. It must have been a common experience, and Ivan Moravec says he is glad people got to know his playing this way. It was basically through music - not through agents - that my playing became more known through the world, I began to record in 1962 for an American company, and once the recordings were there, they slowly came to other parts of the world Yes, and first of all because of the quality of the public which listens to recordings. I would call it a better sort of public, because those people sit at home and compare. Mostly they are very knowledgeable - they know different versions of say - Beethoven sonatas, and it's almost a form of amusement for them to have an evening and play different versions of a work. I would say that these fans know much more about music, and are not so influenced by the physical appearance of an artist, they simply take the musical message from the recordings. I regard recordings as a very honest way to become known and to be compared with other artists.
