He was brought up a Unitarian. He studied civil engineering ay the University of Wisconsin and got his first architectural job at a firm in Chicago. Wright started his own firm in 1893 after being fired from another Chicago firm for moonlighting. Between 1893 and 1909 Wright began to develop his "Prairie House" concept of design. He married several times and acquired hundreds of commissions over his long career: the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Fallingwater, the Price Tower skyscraper, the Guggenheim Museum, the Marin County Civic Center, and his own home in Wisconsin, Taliesen. About religion, Wright said, "I believe in God, only I spell it Nature." Indeed, he stressed, "Nature is my manifestation of God. I go to nature every day for inspiration in the day's work. I follow in building the principles which nature has used in its domain" You could call Wright's belief a sort of Pantheism, for Wright would say, "Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. Drummer Robert "Huckleberry Hound" Wright, dies at 63 By Steve Sharp Wright was the drummer on Aaron Moore's debut Delmark Records CD, "Hello World." Moore, himself, called Wright one of the best drummers with whom he had ever played. "I'd rather have Huck than anybody," Moore said. "He had that shuffle, and that's hard to find." Wright was born March 21, 1937, in Greenwood, Miss. He grew up in Memphis and moved to Chicago in 1959. Wright performed with many greats, including Magic Sam, Bo Diddley, Eddie C. Campbell and Brewer Phillips. He can be heard backing Sam at the famous Ann Arbor Blues Festival in the 1960s on Delmark Records. He was Campbell's drummer on the Blind Pig CD "That's When I Know." Wright also recorded on many other sessions. In addition to touring with Campbell and Moore, Wright could be found for much of the 1990s backing South Side soul singer Johnny Laws on Friday and Saturday nights at the Cuddle Inn on South Ashland Avenue. Among the first albums I chose to digitize were Wendy Carlos' Switched-On Bach, Switched-On Bach II, The Well-Tempered Synthesizer, and the complete original score for Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange". Though I hadn't listened to these recordings in years, I knew that I would still love them enough to have them on CD. As I was determined to edit out most of the pops, hiss, and rumble of these old records, I had to listen to them more closely than ever before, and in so doing, I developed a more intense appreciation of what Wendy Carlos has done over the years. This page is the expression of my appreciation for her art and what she has given the world of music. First, A Few Words From An Ardent Fan Until the age of about nine, I remember telling my friends and thinking to myself that I didn't care for music. "Music" to me at that time was "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I've got love in my tummy", "Sugar, oh sugar sugar", etc. Little wonder! Then one day, my music teacher, Mrs. Marshall, played for our class some tracks from Switched-On Bach . (Photo: Focus Features) (CBS) Adrien Brody had to wait his turn for stardom, but his time may have arrived. Since winning the top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival, "The Pianist" has been collecting honors including a Best Picture award from The National Society of Film Critics and a Golden Globe nomination. The film stars Brody, the New York born actor, as a Jewish pianist who struggles to stay alive in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. Brody visited The Early Show to discuss the critical success of the film and the Golden Globe nomination for his performance in it. "The Pianist" was adapted by English playwright/screenwriter Ronald Harwood from the autobiography of Wladyslaw Szpilman, a Polish Jew who detailed his survival during World War II. Szpilman was a composer and pianist who struggled to stay alive during the German occupation. When the Germans were forced to retreat from Warsaw in January 1945, there were only about 20 Jews left alive in the city. One was Wladyslaw Szpilman, surprisingly helped by a German officer. The film was directed by Roman Polanski. The director had escaped the Cracow Ghetto at the age of 7 through a hole in a barbed-wire fence. "The Pianist" marks the first time that he has made a movie in Poland in 40 years.

Carol Wright Homepage Contents Concert and PR Photography The good, the bad, and the brilliant by Carol Wright I'm no expert, but I have to look at and scan enough musician photographs to know that most of these attempts DON'T WORK. I can almost guarantee that having your best friend snap off a few shots at your live gig won't give you the results you need to put forth a professional image. And your shaded face may look nice and soft in color, but turns to muddy grey in black and white. To get great concert shots, you'll need fast film, fast lenses, andLONG lenses...or easy access to performers. ( Dan Dion uses these: 300mm/2.8, 85mm/1.2, and 80-200mm 2.8 lenses. Steve Marachi says a zoom lens of 70-200/2.8 is a typical concert photography lens. From my experience buying camera equipment, those are very fast lenses for their length. $$$). If you are attempting a studio shot yourself, you can get better results by improvising with additional lights, careful compostion, and a tripod. Best advice I have is to be honest: Can you tell who the musician is, what instrument he or she is playing? Can you see the body distinct from the background? If shot in color, will the image also work in black and white (it's easy to check using a greyscale conversion in PhotoShop or PaintShopPro). One reader suggests using a "black and white viewing filter," aka "monochrome filter," to preview the scene before shooting. News and Updates February 12, 2004 •Filming is set to begin in early May for "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," based on the memoir by Dito Montiel of his experiences growing up in Queens, New York. Robert plays the starring role. I highly suggest that you read this book. It's alternately tragic and hilarious and always compelling. It's very easy to picture Robert playing Dito. Robert was up for the role of Zaphrod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed president of the galaxy. Which after reading the book, (or most of it anyway) Robert would have been great in that part.
