Last Updated: Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.
In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.
A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus. I Timothy 3:8-13 NIV

Springfest brings variety of events, speakers to campus
By Jayson Merkley Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2003
Some weeks can really suck at ISU. The Program Board has taken upon itself to make sure that this week does not. This week is the Program Board's Springfest, a post-spring break plethora of fun, promising everything from a Playboy playmate to a former presidential candidate.
Springfest kicked off on Monday with "Seven Nations," an acclaimed band from Florida. An eclectic combo of Celtic and pop rock, these indy rockers will be bringing the noise to the student union ballroom.
On Tuesday a special sneak preview of "What a Girl Wants" was shown at the student union movie theater. The film stars Amanda Bynes (don't pretend you don't remember her from Nickelodeon's hit show "All That") as a girl raised by her mother in New York. She decides to look for her long-lost father who happens to be one of the elites of London, England's aristocratic population. It doesn't take long for her rough-and-tumble American personality to clash with her father's dainty lifestyle.
On Wednesday ISU students and faculty will be treated to the world renowned concert pianist, Teresa Walters. Name a place, any place, and she has probably played there. She is considered by many to be the best in the world at what she does. The concert is scheduled to be at Goranson Hall from 7:30 til 9:30 p.m. and will be free to students, faculty, and staff. Log on to www.teresawalters.com for more info.

The Hudson Valley is a microcosm of the changing American landscape. Its pattern of rapid growth has transformed a once rural area into a kaleidoscope of cities, industrial hubs, suburbs, farms, and wilderness. Its promise, problems, and challenges mirror those of the nation as a whole, and it thus provides the ideal locale for the pioneering programs of The Bard Center. Established in 1978, The Bard Center develops pacesetting educational and scholarly programs with a recognized nationwide impact. It promotes the study of the liberal arts and sciences as they relate to issues of public planning and decision making in and beyond the Hudson River Valley. These programs enrich the intellectual, cultural, and social experience of Bard undergraduates and establish a network of academic and professional centers beyond the campus.
The Institute for Writing and Thinking , established by the Bard Center in 1982, offers challenging, engaging, and effective teacher development programs seeking to improve student's writing abilities.

http://www.reelpeople.org.uk/films0304.html
THE 2003/4 SEASON Our thriving film society based in the village of KIlmersdon started it's sixth and most ambition season so far in September 2003. Not Only is the society offering a more diverse and jam packed season than ever before, but following the installation of the state-of-the-art DVD projection equipment, screen and black surround last year, this season sees the introduction of COMFY chairs!!!. We hope this new found comfort will not stop the now customary bringing of a cushion to mark your seat (german-style) while you enjoy a pre-film drink and chat with familiar friends and fellow members. Remember that we will also be offering free coffee (and the bar will be open to purchase other refreshments) after films so that you can stay and enjoy yourselves afterwards. FILM REVIEWS RABBIT PROOF FENCE In 1901 the Australian government built a transcontinental fence in Western Australia to contain the exploding population of rabbits that the white settlers had introduced. Not too long after, the government introduced a scheme by which all mixed-race children were taken away from their Aboriginal mothers to be raised as good Christian Australians, the Aboriginal part bred out of them through two generations of enforced marriage to whites. This practice apparently continued until the 1970s, and Noyce's film is the true tale of its impact on one poverty-stricken family in 1931, when three little girls, each with a different itinerant white father who'd worked on the rabbit-proof fence, were taken away from their mother and sent to be reared at a special school 1,500 miles away.
