5. Teresa Walters - Teresa's Travelogues
Diary of a Concert pianist. I am the only concert pianist they haveever heard, and I played the only piano they have ever seen.
http://www.teresawalters.com/travel_diary.html
Diary of a Concert Pianist Click on images for larger photographs Dear Readers: I keep a Concert Tour diary during my travels, and have decided to share with you some of its highlights. After my recent Lincoln Center recital in New York, I wanted this season to be filled with the greatest possible variety of performance experiences. I can't include every concert, because this will be a season that takes me literally around the globe, to solo with symphonies as far away as Bombay, and play my South American debut in Brazil. I will perform "from sea to shining sea" here in the U.S. and travel to the extremities of North America for performances in Canada and Mexico. I will play for royalty in the most opulent palaces of Europe and for audiences in the poorest regions of India. I'll include pictures when I can, and share some of the experiences along the way that make a life of music-making such a great calling. Welcome to my Concert Tour Diary! August 2000 - Lake Country, NJ: This is time of physical and psychological preparation for the coming concert season. I spend this time at our Lakehouse and practice in a converted Boathouse at the water's edge. My audiences here are swans, herons, ducks, kingfishers, turtles, muskrats, and any other creature who chooses to sail by. The wildlife have grown accustomed to my presence and consider beautiful piano music to be a natural component of their environment.

Miss Walters program for her evening in Crossville will feature three of the top ten Romantic piano pieces: The Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op.18 by Rachmaninoff; Hungarian Fantasy by Liszt; and the Concerto No 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23 by Tchaikovsky. “She is wonderful at explaining the roots of the music she plays and making her audiences feel at home with her selections,” said Janet Kluender, CCP Business Manager. “I think our audience will be particularly impressed by the big pieces, the big sounds, the stacked and double stacked chords Miss Walters offers up with ease." Walters is a tall, statuesque performer with an expansive reach of the keys which enables her to make the most of the minor chords and nationalistic themes that characterize the Romantic movement in music. For ticket information contact the Cumberland County Playhouse Box Office at 931-484-5000.

MUSIC FROM THE SOUL-Teresa Walters will play the piano in the next Artist Series performance Saturday at 8 p.m.
"'Playing the piano' is an appropriate term," Walters said. "It really is play. It doesn't feel like work." But for every second she performs, Walters has spent countless hours perfecting each phrase in the music of Franz Liszt. Liszt, a composer from the Romantic period, is known for his challenging and dramatic piano music. Walters said for her, it is a passionate display of poetry from the soul. "I'm still exploring the richness of his pieces," she said. "To me, his music has everything. It is beautifully designed for the hands." Walters said the journey of performing Liszt's music all over the world is the most fulfilling part of her career. Her music has taken her from a Nebraska farm, where she randomly played a song from the radio on her grandmother's piano at the age of four, to Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore to earn a doctorate, to touring Europe as the first American to play in recitals honoring Liszt's birthday. In her travels, Walters encounters "signs" and coincidences which convince her that playing the piano is her calling.
