"Appendix 1"
Then I went overboard and added "Appendix 2" , which lists the errors found in these editions, plus gives a few crumbs of performance tips and information on the pieces. You can get to the desired work in Appendix 2 by clicking on the name of the piece in the list below. (If you jump into Appendix 2, use the back arrow function of your browser to return to the place you came from. Saves me tons of HTML... Thanks.) It's a great sound combo, all those plucked and struck strings. In spite of the common wisdom, there is probably less of a balance problem than with any other instrument. (Pianos can play piano , see?) For the time being, at least, guitar and piano is off the beaten track. You could be the first on your block. These pieces almost all date from the first half of the 19th Century. Maybe the music isn't quite Schumann or Beethoven (and it surely isn't Brouwer, sorry), but it's good and it's correct - and it's ours. There are lovely pieces and lively pieces and if the operatic arrangements don't make you want to stomp up the walls and around the ceiling then you should probably be looking into having a casket fitted. Finally, drum roll, please...

In March 2000, the newsletter of the Royal Bank of Canada asked, "Where Have All the Heroes Gone?" Well, we say, they're still here, resplendent in shining armor. But our orators have become dumbstruck and blind, dazzled by the television and the confusion of a digital world. Here we propose to once again put wreaths on the heads of the great, offering libations to those who rise well above the mediocre. -new- Paul Farmer
You can find out about Paul Farmer simply by pouring through the Internet or by reading his book Pathologies of Power: Health, Human Rights, and the New War on the Poor or by reading Tracy Kidder’s book about him, Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World . A long time ago, he broke free from conventional medicine and medical lucre to take on the poor, which is what he thinks medicine is all about. He set up a community based healthcare system in Haiti that not only brought affordable care to the poor but went beyond this to attack the social causes making for illness. Then too, he upset the applecart in treating tuberculosis, showing that an intensive medicine-based approach was the best way to deal with TB, particularly so that the poor would not develop an immunity to treatment. He has gone on to work at the Harvard Medical School and on as well to other impoverished spots on the globe. Appropriately, he is both physician and anthropologist. Comments: I haven't visited your site in awhile, but my how your collection has progressed. We couldn't disagree more on pianistic issues, but so be it...what is life without difference? I did notice one glaring ommission: Earl Wilde. But the content is impressi e. Best wishes. Doug My Email: dsinx@yahoo.com Your favorite composer(s): Comments: Sir, you are obviously a pianist..and piano freak/connoisseur to a large degree. Do you teach? I see that you have no recording of Rach's Variations on a Theme of Corelli. Have you heard it? Would you rate Alicia deLarrocha and Ruth Laredo in your list of Good and Bad? Very nice website and informative. By the way! I have a snippet of piano music which no one can seem to identify. I recorded it from a classical radio station in 1980. Then it gathered dust. Recently, I sent a tape copy of it to the station nd they are a blank. Same for Capital University here in Columbus OH. Want to try? What's your mailing address? I'll send it. I want to buy the complete recording. Thanks. Dhruva Seshadri My Email: dhrugeese@myrealbox.com
