Our Mission
In a nurturing, small-school environment, and through the use of an academically accelerated and enriched curriculum, Nova Classical Academy will offer its learners a rigorous, thorough, systematic, challenging, K-12 college-preparatory education in the classical tradition. Our History
Nova Classical Academy is a parent-initiated school. We began as a small group who felt that public school students should have access to the same quality of education as many private school students. We wanted a school that was academically rigorous, that valued scholarship and individual excellence as well as self-discipline and virtue, that taught students to think and reason from a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, that allowed all students to study at an appropriate pace, and where parents, staff and students all shared a unity of purpose. We looked into a number of different curriculum models. When we discovered the classical model of education, it struck a deep chord, and we knew without a doubt that it was not only what we wanted for our children, but it was also the education we wish that we had received.

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
Concert Artists Guild celebrates its fiftieth anniversary season beginning with the 2001 International Competition at New York City's Merkin Concert Hall this April. Richard Weinert, named Concert Artists Guild's president a year ago, recently announced the addition of several new performance prizes as part of an expanded "prize package" for the competition. For the first time ever, organizations such as the Indian Hill Symphony (MA), the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society (PA), and the Bach Museum of Leipzig (Germany) will offer concerto and recital opportunities to winners of the 2001 competition. Since 1951, the Guild has developed the careers of more than 500 instrumentalists, singers, and chamber ensembles from around the world. Programs include the annual international competition, artist management, commissions, fellowships, career development workshops, and publications. It's an introductory page which puts my FNAL and Comdex write-up into perspective. If you are only interested in what Linus had to say at FNAL, then just read on.
A clear day for flying. Long Island Islip Airport lies ahead. April 19th, the day of Linus's talk at FNAL, dawned to be a gorgeous day on Long Island. I'm going to fly Southwest, the 1:20pm flight, through Baltimore, and transfer to the Chicago Midway flight. I'm to arrive in Chicago at 4:30pm. Linus's talk is scheduled for 5:30pm. Trying to get my reservation setup to fly out to Chicago was a mess. Originally, Linus was scheduled to talk at 7:30pm. And I planned my flight scheduled around that. (4:30pm arrival, 7:30pm talk, no problem.) But, that changed when I got a message about Linus's talk being rescheduled. By then I had no choice except brave the tight time table. So, I had a relaxing morning, enjoying some quality time with my wife. Flight time came and off to the airport I go. With such nice weather, all flights were on time. (The Free Software Gods were looking after me...) 4:25pm arrives, the plane wheels up to the midway terminal gate, and bam, I'm off running. Those 1970's or 80's commercials of OJ Simpson running through airports was the title theme of my thoughts at the time. (Where is the running lane!!!) I hit the National Car Rental booth. Two rather relaxed attendants are shooting the breeze. I quietly but firmly tell one of them that I have a rental reservation. ("Get me my car

You can reach author John Kenrick at jbk@musicals101.com Who's Who in Musicals: A to Ba by John Kenrick Abbott , George (Francis) Director, librettist, producer b. Jan. 25, 1887 (Forrestville, NY) - d. Jan. 31. 1995 (Miami Beach, FL) During his long career, practically everyone referred to him as "Mr. Abbott" – a sign of respect that this talented man never discouraged. Originally an actor, he rose to fame as a playwright, eventually becoming a stage director and musical comedy librettist. In the course of over 130 Broadway productions, Abbott worked with most of the prominent stage talents of his time. His musical comedy career began when he directed Richard Rodgers Lorenz Hart 's Jumbo (1935). He worked with the same team on a series of hit shows, staging and co-authoring the librettos for On Your Toes The Boys From Syracuse (1938) and Pal Joey (1940). Abbott gave musical comedy a faster pace and a refreshing dose of modern sophistication.
