Clairmont Piano Prize, the Joseph Kalichstein Piano Prize, and the Pennsylvania Presenters’ Prize, a thirteen-concert tour throughout the state. He is also the recipient of the first Miriam Horowitz Meckler Award, established by YCA alumna pianist Ruth Laredo in honor of her mother. In 2001, the Young Concert Artists Series presented Mr. Jumppanen’s New York debut at the 92nd Street Y. The New York Times reported that his playing was “fresh and exciting,” and that “he performs with immense power and an extraordinary range of colors.” Mr. Jumppanen also debuted in the Young Concert Artists Series at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and performed in New York at the Morgan Library and at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. In 2002, Mr. Jumppanen made his New York concerto debut with the New York Chamber Symphony conducted by Gerard Schwarz at Alice Tully Hall. He has also performed as soloist in the U.S. with the symphonies of Pasadena, Flagstaff, Paducah (KY) and Fort Smith (AR). This season, he performs the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4 with Tulsa’s Signature Symphony, returns to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and gives recitals for the Classical Concert Series in North Carolina and the Weis Center for the Performing Arts in Lewisburg, PA.

PAUL WATKINS - Cello biography Paul Watkins is one of Britain's foremost cellists. Born in 1970, he studied cello with William Pleeth, Melissa Phelps and Johannes Goritzki and first came to public attention as winner of the string section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1988. Alongside his playing, Paul is also a keen conductor and in 2002 won both first prize and audience prize at the Leeds Conductors' Competition Paul's concerto performances with the BBC Symphony Orchestra include five Proms (concertos by Elgar, Sullivan, Lutoslawski, Tobias Picker and most recently William Schuman's A Song of Orpheus ) and Strauss Don Quixote at the Royal Festival Hall. Elsewhere in the UK he has performed with the Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony, City of London Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony and Royal Scottish National Orchestras working with, amongst others, Sir Andrew Davis, Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson, Mark Elder, Alexander Lazarev, James Judd, Richard Hickox and Sir Charles Mackerras.
