High Definition has taken the neoclassical genre to an entirely new level that definitely rivals and may even exceed the traditional European predecessors of the neoclassical movement. This album is highlighted by the blistering fast, synchronized dual lead work and lead trading of Ukrainian-exported keyboard wizard and performing classical pianist, Vitalij Kuprij of Philadelphia, PA, on keyboards and his newly found neighbor and guitar slinger, Greg Howe of Easton, PA. Be prepared if you have not heard this one yet, because it will take you straight between the eyes. The composition is superb. The execution is unbelievable. The breadth and depth are staggering. This album is a nonstop cavalry charge from start to finish. Greg Howe, known mainly for his jazz fusion or really undefinable, eclectic style, demonstrates that he is a very capable candidate in the neoclassical arena.

Ferrigno - Leal - Kuprij: Promised Land 2001, Lion Music, LMC 071 CyberHome: http://www.LionMusic.com http://www.VitalijKuprij.com Neoclassical master Vitalij Kuprij, and progressive metal veterans Jon Doman and Philip Byrnoe team up with a pair of hot young guitarists, Marco Ferrigno and Javier Leal for a neoclassically influenced shred fest. The style of music is triangulated somewhere between Kuprij's towering neoclassical solo material, the Artension compositional format, and shred exhibitionism. Shred fans pay attention, Ferrigno and Leal understand only two speeds: warp 10 and the pause between compositions... ;) ... and they can really tear it up with aggression, precision, clarity, speed, speed, and more unrelenting speed! For fans of Vitalij Kuprij, this is a no brainer. Kuprij is solid as always. Fans of neoclassical should also check this CD out, though they should be forewarned about the balance of shredding to composition has the scales tipping toward shred. But still, the composition should be within a palatable range for even neoclassical purists. Masters and students of guitar technique should also check out this CD for the fine caliber that newcomers, Leal and Ferrigno, have achieved in their virtuoso skills. Though the two new guitar slingers take up many established areas of guitar technique, they have attained an impressive level of proficiency in their playing and put the technique together in a coherent, unique, and slap-you-in-the-face manner that is worth checking out.

Kuprij, Vitalij: Forward and Beyond
Neo-classical metal keyboard ace Vitalij Kuprij has a brand new instrumental CD, titled Forward and Beyond , containing eight jaw dropping numbers, plus 2 solo Kuprij bonus tracks if you get the European digi-pack version. The current Artension keyboard wizard, and former Ring of Fire member, brought along a host of virtuoso guitar shredders for this outing, so if you dig aggressive, classically inspired instrumental metal, this release will be right up your alley. The only real time you can relax and take a breath on Forward and Beyond is on the three solo Kuprij numbers "Idol Tribute", "Illusions", and "Phantom Fluries", where the keyboard maestro goes for a more introspective and majestic flair, while still showcasing his serious classical chops. While there is a fair amount of what some people will term "wankery" going on here, there is no denying the talent of Vitalij Kuprij and the guitarists that he has amassed for this recording. For an intense instrumental mix of classical, metal, and fusion, it doesn't get much better than this.

http://www.lionmusic.com/Artists/bellas.htm
GEORGE BELLAS George Bellas started playing guitar at the age of 7, on a Classical guitar his father had bought him. On the way home from getting the guitar, in the back seat of the car, George started plucking away. When he got home, he ran all around the neighborhood playing his new guitar. The next day at school, George checked out every single music book in the school library, went home, and began his quest to obtain an absolute understanding of every detail in music theory. George began practicing and studying really hard at first, to the point of which his fingers began bleeding. He would put band-aids on them and continue practicing. His influences include: J.S.Bach, L.V.Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Paganini, Debussey, Walter Piston, Ted Greene, Robin Trower, Montrose, Van Halen, Michael Schenker, Dream Theater, Magellan, Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, Jason Becker... George began performing live very early on, and gigged extensively with his bands: Union Jack, Destiny, FreeFall and Prodigy, while continually studying Music Theory, Harmony, Rhythm, Counterpoint and Form. George began teaching guitar in his early teens and opened a school of music called "Prodigy's School Of Music". During this time he continued to perform live with his bands and compose a seemingly endless amount of music. George had an attraction towards Classical counterpoint and odd rhythms very early on and are now a unique signature of his style. George's compositions include progressive odd-meter/ exotic scale music, Neoclassical, straight forward rocking vocal tunes and pure Classical, orchestral /soundtrack music. George exhibits great technical prowess and a beautiful sense of melody, harmony and finesse.

Cd Review 2004 VITALIJ KUPRIJ: "Forward And Beyond" (Lion Music – Bertus – Hard Life Promotion) Classically trained pianist Vitalij Kuprij has already made himself a name in both the Classical and Rock music scenes. First offerings by his hand in the Rock scene started in 1993 with the band Atlantis Rising , and became more serious with Artension (to date, he contributed to 5 of their albums). He got even more notoriety by contributing to some German acts ( Rage being one of 'em), but also went on to bring 3 previous solo instrumental albums. This is his fourth, and it sees contributions from guitarists from all over the world with George Bellas Michael Romeo Michael Harris (on 2 tracks!), Jeff Kollman Javier Leal , plus combining Roger Staffelbach (with whom he started Atlantis Rising Borislav Mitic and Francesco Farera on one specific track. Musically, Vitalij shows his love for the Classical quite clearly, by not only doing an interpretation of "Piano Overture"

Etude No. 1 for the Electric Guitar This is an etude I wrote sometime last year. It is meant as an exercise in alternate picking for the electric guitar. You can download a PDF file of the etude, or listen to it in the MIDI format. Or do both. Sam Moore has my gratitude for taking my original ASCII file and painstakingly converting it to a Powertab file. My Current Favourite Classical Albums Recording : Rachmaninov 3, Tchaikovsky 1
Piano : Martha Argerich
Conductors : Ricardo Chailly, Kirill Kondrashin
Orchestra : Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra
Year It is difficult to describe in a few words what this album means to me. In our appreciation of art and culture, life often imposes a cruel dichotomy. That which is vulgar is ubiquitous, and therefore more likely to be seared in our being through some intensely personal associationsuch as a popular song that arouses fond feelings because it was playing when our first kiss from our first sweetheart took place. Yet, the richer, complex arts, by virtue of their inaccessibility to the general populace, remain something only to be admired from a distancean admiration that is the product of intellection rather than affection. This recording is an exception to the aforementioned dichotomy. Argerich plays with unmatched fury, and in her interpretation of Rachmaninov 3 are hidden some of my fondest memories of the past decade, thus explaining why my appreciation of it is at once logical and visceral. The languor of the opening melody and the shadows and half-lights of the orchestration speak of a gathering storm, building slowly towards the thunderous, overwhelming cadenza of the first movement. In the wistful tune that follows the cadenza, we imagine ourselves picking up our lives in the wake of the storm. Yet, more darkness is portended in the brooding atmosphere and the unresolved end of the movement.
