Truth and Lies in the Holocaust: Jurek Becker's Life in Five Worlds
Jurek Becker was the most renowned child Holocaust-Survivor to write in German. His novel and film JACOB THE LIAR have had world fame as the first works to deal with the Shoa in a comic light. Dealing with the question of lies and truth, it provides a setting for a presentation of the multiple worlds and multiple identities that its author had.
Sander L. Gilman is a distinguished professor of the Liberal Arts and Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He is the director of the Humanities Laboratory and the first Director of the Jewish Studies Program there. A cultural and literary historian, he is the author or editor of over seventy books.

: In der Popmusik vielleicht! : Wieso?!

About the Symphony
Celebrating its 47th season, the Lake Forest Symphony is the only fully professional orchestra in Lake County. Currently under the baton of Music Director Alan Heatherington , the Lake Forest Symphony presents five concert pairs in our Classical Series , all featuring prominent guest artists. This season we look forward to welcoming pianist Andreas Klein, violinist Tasmin Little, cellist Bion Tsang, flutist Mathieu Dufour, and pianist Richard Boldrey. A pre-concert lecture by music researcher Jim Kendros enhances each performance. Receptions follow every performance where audience members are given the opportunity to meet orchestra members and relax with refreshments and conversation. and program. For these programs we bring students to the performance hall to hear the full orchestra perform a program specifically geared towards them. A variety of In-School Ensembles bring the magic of music to schools with presentations, small concerts, a question and answer opportunity, and engaging demonstrations.

http://www.huntingtonsymphony.org/pages/didyouknow.htm
About an Orchestra An orchestra is made up of many instruments, and each has an individual sound. It is these sounds coming together that create the combination of instrument voices that we so often associate with classical music. There are several families of instruments within the orchestra. These are: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. There are two symphonic seasons: Classical and Pops. Many orchestras play classical music during the winter months in a warm and sheltered indoor location, and move the instruments and music outdoors for a summer season. Not all symphonic composers are classical. Many young musicians compose music for orchestras today. These composers are called "contemporary." The leader of an orchestra is called the "conductor" or "maestro". The maestro uses his baton to direct the musicians. The maestro may say, "Now the violins play," or "Please play softly," without actually voicing a word. Once the musicians have practiced with the conductor, they almost magically understand the musical "sign language" of his baton. About Our Orchestra The Huntington Symphony has been around since the 1930's in various forms, sometimes disbanding for several years, and sometimes forming as the smaller "chamber" orchestra. Some of the musicians who were with the original Huntington Symphony Orchestra through the 1950s still play with us today.
