John O'Conor Gerhard Oppitz Gerhard Oppitz performs over eighty recitals and concerts a year, playing with the world¡¯s most prestigious orchestras including the Berlin, Vienna, London, Israel and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestra, and the Boston, Pittsburgh, London Symphony Orchestras and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, with conductors including Carlo Maria Giulini, Sir Colin Davis, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, Dmitrij Kitajenko, Horst Stein, Marek Janowski, Zubin Mehta, Herbert Blomstedt and Sir Neville Marriner. Oppitz has a wide and diverse repertoire. Performances of complete piano cycles feature prominently in his concert program: Schubert¡¯s solo piano music, Beethoven and Mozart sonatas, Bach¡¯s Well-Tempered Clavier, Grieg and above all, the complete works of Brahms, a composer with whom Oppitz is internationally recognized for having a special affinity. He has performed over 17 complete Brahms cycles in most of the major cities of Europe including London, Geneva, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Munich, Paris, Milan, Rome, Berlin, as well as in Tokyo, and elsewhere. Gerhard Oppitz has earned a reputation in the performance of contemporary music, particularly in works by Lutoslawski, Ligeti, Veerhoff, Boulez, Messiaen and Stockhausen. | |
