SIDEWAYS entertainment, inc! Bradley Williams Creator of, director, composer-arranger, pianist and MC for the 21st Century Review, Bradley Williams served as pianist / arranger for Woody Herman's Thundering Herd in the early 1980's before moving to Chicago. He was musical director at the legendary Gold Star Sardine Bar and is a favorite accompanist / arranger for many national artists as well as Chicago talent. His resume includes work with Michel Legrand, Mark Murphy, Sheila Jordan, Joe Henderson, and others.
In 1995 the pianist founded his jazz variety show, the Original 21st Century Review, featuring seven musicians, three vocalists and a tap dancer. He also performs in tandem with vocalist Gingi Lahera (also of the 21st Century Review) in a number of Duo and Quartet formats. Their new CD, "Two Fun For Jazz," is due for release in Spring of 2002. His bands have appeared at The Chicago Jazz Showcase, Pops for Champagne, Toulouse on the Park, Green Dolphin Street, the Plaza Tavern, the Chicago Hilton and Towers, and the Bop Shop. Williams' 11-peice 21st Century Review has performed internationally at The Jerusalem Jazz Festival and traveled to India for performances in Mumbai (Bombay) and Dehli. They have produced three CDs - the latest a soundtrack to the movie "Wrigley Field: Beyond the Ivy." He is, in addition, the co-host of the internationally syndicated public radio series, Words and Music, broadcast over Chicago's WFMT (98.7 FM Saturday nights at 7 pm) and The Radio Networks along with the British Broadcasting Corporation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

In 1994, after two years on the road as pianist/arranger with Woody Herman and His Thundering Herd, Bradley Williams made his debut on record as a leader with the critically acclaimed piano trio release, The Next Sound You Hear (Lake Shore Jazz). A DownBeat reviewer compared Williams to Teddy Wilson while Jazz Times labeled him "a mainstream yet quirky modernist with virtuostic chops and a mastery of bop." He became a fixture on the Chicago scene landing a multi-year gig as the house pianist/musical director at Chicago's famed jazz cabaret, The Gold Star Sardine Bar. At the Gold Star he unearthed a talent for accompanying singers and developed a deeper commitment to the American popular song book. He had a vision of a large ensemble including vocalists, which would be the center of a musical stage show, not unlike those of Duke Ellington and Fats Waller. In 1995 he made that vision a reality, the Original 21st Century Review was born and the concepts that led to

He was a repeated recipient of the Academy Award for Animated Short Film for his Tom and Jerry films. This angered many of the creative staff like William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. They considered Quimby an untalented, lazy and obnoxious tyrant who constantly interfered with their creative decisions but still managed to get credit for their work.

Scott Bradley (1891-1977) Scott Bradley was born in Russellville, Arkansas 26 November 1891 in Arkansas.
He died at the age of 85 in Chatsworth, California on 27th April 1977 In 1934, MGM decided that they had to get into the growing cartoon business but they weren't brave enough to create their own unit. Instead, they bought in cartoons from the Hugh Harman/Rudolf Ising company (the name of the company, Harman-Ising, was a deliberate pun). Scott Bradley worked for Harman-Ising, having previously been at Disney, alongside Carl Stalling who later went to Warner Brothers and worked on 600 of the famous Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies. So, when MGM decided to create their own in-house cartoon unit in 1938, it was natural that they bought in most of the people from the Harman-Ising stable and Bradley became a full time MGM employee. Cartoon music was, in the mid 1930s, still pretty much a collection of popular songs linked together with the occasional musical effect supporting the action. It wasn't until the late '30s that the music started to tell the story more than the sound effects did. Roy Prendergast in his book Film Music, a neglected art

Childhood

The youngest of three daughters, Patricia Ellen was born on February 24, 1945
on Long Island New York to Virginia and Bob Chappell. Eager to join her family, Patti was born two months prematurely which left her visually impaired. Although her eyesight was damaged, her sense of hearing was very acute. Music played a large part in the family's time together, whether it was classical music played by her mother, or sisters and her father singing and harmonizing the popular music of the day while sister, Joan played the piano, later to be joined by Patti.
Knowing she did not want to pursue a career as a concert pianist but loving music, Patti wanted to continue her music education and at a wise suggestion from her parents decided to pursue a degree from a music college. Encouraged by her high school choral director, Patti auditioned and was accepted at the Crane School of Music, SUNY, Potsdam, NY and it was there she met the two people who would play major roles in her decision to pursue a career as a jazz musician.
College
At Crane, Patti studied piano with James Ball, a well-respected professor, loved by students and faculty alike. An accomplished classical and jazz pianist, this modest, soft-spoken man introduced Patti to the music that would become a lifelong passion and change the direction of her future. During the lessons, in addition to the classical studies, James played all styles of jazz recordings Art Tatum, Bessie Smith, Red Garland, Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk, Ella and Miles. Knowing Patti loved Debussy, Ravel, and Delius, he also played recordings of pianist Bill Evans, whose

NEW YORK CITY By Kate Walter Author
The Jazz Writer
Jazz writing is a small scene, a subculture with a lot of competition. Yet Leslie Gourse has made it her life’s work in more than 30 books. "I know how to speak to anybody and I know if I’m hearing bullshit or the truth," she says. Her latest, Art Blakey: Jazz Messenger , is due out this summer from Schirmer. "I became a jazz writer by accident," she says, when she began chronicling the jazz scene in the 70s while hanging out at Bradley’s, the piano bar on University Pl. She spent 25 years, two nights a week, at the club. "All the best pianists in the world passed through there," she recalls. From 1969 to ’94, Bradley’s featured piano and bass duos. Gourse has fond memories, like the night bassist Ray Drummond and pianist Kenny Barron switched instruments. One piano player–"I won’t use his name because he’s still working"–booked himself into Bradley’s and another club for the same nights. He played 20 minutes, took a break, ran to the other place, did a set, ran back. When a bartender figured it out, the pianist was fired.
