Thomas Hansen's comments, taken from the fan site of his band St. Thomas (www.lamestain.com), reveal the Norwegian singer-songwriter's faith in his music and his ambitions to reach the largest audience possible. If the enthusiastic response in his countrywhere the chorus to his Top 10 hit "Cornerman" is a popular cell phone ring optionand the rest of Europe extends to American record buyers, St. Thomas' next album could indeed be a big commercial success. And well it should. St. Thomas' music is catchy and melodic, with emotionally direct lyrics that sketch self-portraits by sharing mundane details of life in plain language. In lesser hands, such lyrics could grow tiresome and seem narcissistic, but Hansen is a natural writer whose lyrics call attention to his songs' wonderful melodies. St. Thomas have been in town this month recording Hey, Harmony, the working title of their third album, produced by Nashville's indie rock recordist of choice, Mark Nevers. On the record, percussionist Jeremy Barnes (formerly of Neutral Milk Hotel) and bassist Matt Swanson and pianist Tony Crow (both of Lambchop) achieve a jazz-like interplay with Hansen and his longtime collaborators, guitarist Espen Mellingen and banjo player Bosse Litzheim. Hansen's warbling voice charts a melodic statement upon which the other instrumental voices in his folk orchestra comment. He also enlists Dave Cloud to sing backup on a new tune called "Ride" and an off-the-cuff cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Who'll Stop the Rain?" Giant Sand's Howe Gelb was in town recently to contribute piano parts to the record.

Thomas Hansen Lecturer in Music Piano THOMAS HANSEN has earned enthusiastic critical and audience acclaim for his performances across the country. Born in Massachusetts, he began teaching himself piano at age four. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory and a Master's from the University of Michigan. His principal teachers were Theodore Lettvin and Thomas LaRatta. Mr. Hansen performed an all-Liszt recital in the Netherlands on an 1866 Steinway which Liszt himself often used for recitals. He has recorded three programs for the Grand Piano television show which appears on cable systems in over two hundred cities and towns. Among his many performances with orchestra in the Bay Area are appearances with the Redwood Symphony, the Peninsula Symphony and the Merced Symphony. The Boston Globe has written that his performance "left no doubt about his fluency, and the cleanness and lack of hokum in his lively playing were most commendable." Friluftskoncert 2004 Friluftskoncert på Birkendegård 2004 bliver skudt i gang søndag den 25. januar kl. 15.30, hvor det nye produtionshold mødes for første gang. Sidste år tog vi fat i det kunstneriske arbejde på en ny måde. Det arbejde vil vi selvfølgelig fortsætte, men i år bliver der lagt et stort fokus på selve produktionen. Således vil hele den tekniske side være med helt fra starten, hvilket gør at teknikken kan spille meget mere med i den kunstneriske proces. Endvidere sparer det os en masse ekstra-arbejde, grundet manglende kommunikation. Efter det første produktionsmøde vil årets budget(som er meget realistisk) blive fremlagt her på siden. Their careers were intertwined since 1924. Over the years, they worked side-by-side in the dance halls of Louisiana, at Preservation Hall, and on the concert stages of the world. I recall being mesmerized by many magical moments at Preservation Hall in New Orleans listening to Kid Thomas's Algiers Stompers. There was never a demonstration of showy technique, just a sincere approach to the music he loved. The frail little trumpet player blew flaming notes into his battered tin derby that could be heard reverberating down St. Peter Street toward the Mississippi levee. Nelson always stood tall and handsome near the hall's carriage way entrance, carefully aiming his trombone slide between the crowded patrons. His droll expression was betrayed by the glint in his eyeand by the generous gray eyebrows that elevated provocatively when he gazed at an attractive lady. He had an uncanny ability to perfectly embellish every tune with his familiar musical aphorisms. We heard them often, but they never seemed redundant.

The band soon recorded the demo Symphonies of Doom . In 1987, the band changed its name to Blind Guardian, whereupon the musicians recorded the Kalle Trapp-produced Battalions of Fear , which contained elements from bombastic speed metal. The album was released the following year. In 1989, Blind Guardian recorded the Trapp-produced Follow the Blind , which featured a guest appearance from vocalist/guitarist Kai Hansen. In 1990, the band recorded the Trapp-produced Tales from the Twilight World , which featured guest appearances from vocalist/lead-guitarist Kai Hansen, keyboarder Piet Sielck and keyboarder Mathias Wiesner as well as backing vocalists Hacky Hackmann, Kalle Trapp and Rolf Köhler. The album was released the following year. 1992 saw the release of the Trapp-produced Somewhere Far Beyond , which featured guest appearances from lead-guitarist Kai Hansen, guitarist/keyboarder Piet Sielck, bassist Mathias Wiesner and pianist Stefan Will as well as backing vocalists Kalle Trapp and Billy King. The album became a major success in their home country and Japan. Blind Guardian subsequently toured with the American session keyboarder Marc Zimmerman, which was immortalised on the live record
